Former WCW & TNA star Konnan made an appearance on Wrestling Observer Live with Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez on Sunday night (July 8) discussing his departure from TNA Wrestling and speaking out in the media regarding the Chris Benoit situation. Here are some highlights:
- On leaving TNA, Konnan said it was a combination of five years of lies building up and not getting paid enough money.
- He added that not being helped with his health issues also caused him to make his decision. Konnan said he came into TNA with a hip problem and the excuse he got from TNA was that he already had a bad hip. Konnan told them it got worse working for them.
- Konnan said when it was time for him to get the hip replacement surgery, TNA did loan him the money, but wanted it all paid back in full. He said they also offered to loan him money for his kidney transplant as well, but again wanted to be paid back in full.
- He said that TNA always disrespected and briefly mentioned some racial tension.
- Konnan said he could never understand why when he would go to TNA and would ask for more money why that would tell him they couldn't, but were re-signing Christian Cage and giving Kurt Angle and Sting huge contracts.
- He said since he had somewhere else to go (AAA), he just left.
- Konnan said he told Homicide and Hernandez not to leave TNA because he was. He gave them his reasons for leaving having been there since day one and now being broke. "I decided to quit. Enough was enough," said Konnan.
- He added that Dixie Carter has her head in the sand and is oblivious to the problems with TNA. Konnan said that she complains about Jeff Jarrett all the time, but never pulls the trigger and gets him out of there.
- "All of the talent is frustrated there. No one watches the show," said Konnan. He added that the mid-card guys in the X Division are buried so bad and the people in power don't care.
- Said BG James, Kip James and Senshi have all asked for releases from TNA, but the company won't give it to them. He said he just straight up quit and they can't obligate him to work for them since TNA deals don't work like that.
- On getting involved in the media with the Chris Benoit situation, Konnan said quote, "They called me. I didn't call them."
- Said he felt we are all accessories to this (those in the wrestling industry). Felt it was his duty to speak up about the wrestling industry and steroids.
- Konnan said he wasn't afraid to speak his mind and that others won't because they are in fear they won't get a job with WWE.
- Said he didn't understand why so many wrestlers die and no one does a thing about it. He hoped by speaking out that someone in some type of power would step in and get some regulation.
- Said he has gotten some positive and negative feedback to speaking out in the media about what goes on behind-the-scenes with steroid use.
- His stance is that it will save lives and that wrestlers won't have to be on the road so much per year. "We are year round. And you have to take all these substances to stay in tip-top shape," said Konnan. "We are a different breed and put up with it because we love it."
- Said the only good thing that could come out of the Chris Benoit situation is that more attention could get put on the bad things in wrestling.

Konnan = king of the whiners. He is bitter at WWE because he made a douche of himself there and Mr. Vincent Kennedy McMahon ****canned his ass because he knew, as was proved Konnan would never draw a dime. Mr. McMahon would have laughed at his request for $$ for surgery too. He is bitter at Jeff, Dixie and TNA because he again, made a douche of himself by expecting them to cover things that were not of their doing. I see nothing wrong with them offering the $$$ and expecting it back. Hence the term LOAN. Gee I wonder why Sting, Angle and Cage got big $$$ deals? Maybe because they are actually people who put asses in seats? Maybe because they are talented? Anyone who listens to this sack of ****, well, quite frankly, "has their head buried in the sand" you K-Dogg. That is 3 companies that you couldn't draw a dime for now. Of course I am not surprised someone like Konnan would expect a handout. Not at all.......

That was the dumbest comment ever. Konnan is not as good of a performer as these guys, and also isn't anywhere close to being as big a draw. I'd resign Christian and give angle a contract before giving Konnan a big raise.
As for the surgery, I can see the argument from both sides. If I was TNA, I'd loan him the money, and only ask for about half to get paid back, and over as long as he wants.

I still think TNA should have at least paid for his surgerys but nonetheless if hes not making money and has a family to support, then leaving the company is whats best for him.

Konnan isn't half a whiner. He is bitter with TNA for some mad reason. He thinks his is a massive star when he's not really. I mean why should TNA give him loads of money when he doesn't even wrestle.

Yeah, I watched AAA yesterday & Konnan was on there taking bumps. Yeah, he walked with his crutch but taking bumps when you need a new hip is stupid. TNA did offer to pay for his surgery but they wanted it payed back in full. You people bitch "OMGZ THEY NOTS DRAWIN' A DIME!" & then you cry over this because they didn't spend money on KONNAN!? No offense Konnan hasn't done crapfor me. He's not the reason L.A.X got as big as they did. 'Cide & Hernandez are the reason they got so big. I found Konnan hard to watch because he was so damn annoying. L.A.X will pay off in the end. They are going to go out there & cut their own promos & get better. You don't get better at school by having someone do your work do you? No, you do it yourself & that's what they gotta do.

He's not worth any amount of money period..never really was except for in mexico. He's disgruntled and mad. I'm not sure I beleive all the backstage stuff. I think TNA does care and are trying to fix problems. Sounds more like what was going on in WCW and I doubt that its quite that case. TNA needs to drop James gang now...they cant go to wwe and do anything really cause the whole DX thing is over and they are getting up there in age anyway. CUt the dead weight, like VKM, the Bashams, hell, even Sting..heck even cut Samoa Joe is you want, then start pushing your younger talent, your established guys like Roode, Harris, storm, Rhino, etc

The thing that was stupid in Konnan's little inspirational speach was that they wanted the LOAN back. Hey dickweed, it's called a LOAN. Besides, you sucked anyway. Se ya, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. That is probably the same thing Dixie told you.

The only problem with TNA, and as much as I hate to say it, and Dixie, is she is too nice. Dixie needs to be a little more like Mr. McMahon in the take no prisoners, FTW, department. Otherwise, I agree with much of what has been said. Except the Joe/Sting deadweight thing, that was just dumb!

Wow. MAYBE I could see wanting to see Sting cut, but this is his final year so let him finish it.

I'm saying cut him if there are no plans to make him champion, if they plan on building the company around him then sure keep him. I like Sting but for the storylines he's in I wonder if he's worth the money

The plan IS to build the company around Samoa Joe. TNA is trying to pull the "money is in the chase" thing, which in essence is true. You've got to build Angle as your top heel though.
Konnan sucks, but I still don't see why TNA didn't help him with his surgery. Why didn't the dude have health insurance?

If you broke your leg at home and expected your boss to pay for it, they'd laugh at you too. Hell, I own my own business, and if anyone who worked for me tried to pull that crap, I'd be pulling a McMahon "You're FIRED!"

I think Konnan wanted a little bit more money but not a huge contract like Sting and CC are getting. He was mad because he saw it as the extra bit of money he asked for was put into the already giant contracts of the main eventers.

L M A O @ Konnan never drew a dime.
the Wolfpac woudlnt of been the same without Konnan.. he made the group "hip" at the time.. and they made wcw a lot of money
im sure L A X also made TNA some money.. it was really the only hip thing they've ever had.. nothing else TNA has going could appeal to casual fans right now.. something they dont seem to understand
so just because Konnan never had a big run in the WWE .. means shit.. did i mention he was also part of one of the best stables of all time? the original black and white NWO
