If you look at the rising popularity of the UFC and the constant negative media attention thrust upon the WWE regarding the mortality rate, and steroid usage; would the WWE benefit to be presented as more of a legitimate sports league?
First off, WWE nowadays is presented in a sense that everybodies motive is not to win a title. Storyline and vendetta takes priority over winning the WWE title. Titles are pretty much props, and there are way too many. There are 11 champions (could be wrong) within the WWE. If you estimate the roster to be around 100 people; that is 10 percent with a championship. Considering half those championships don't find time to be defended; they are useless and only make the titles that get defended look devalued.
WWE shoud KEEP the brand split, but they should model their championship structure after the UFC. They should have the Heavyweight Championship, Middle-Weight, and Light-Weight. These titles should be universal, meaning they are defended interbrand. Also throw in the Tag Team championships, which due to the lack of tag teams has no place being divided by weight divisions. This would make there only 5 champions among WWE's 100 or so people on their roster. Meaning having a championship would mean you are the best of the best; and simply having gold around your waist would get you over.
When comparing WWE to a good Album, good albums have very little, or no filler songs. WWE tends to have a lot of filler on their weekly shows. Meaning matches without a purpose. Every match should mean something. Which is why for each division their should be a ranking chart. Each win or loss would effect your rank, whoever is closest to the champion before the PPV would be rewarded the match. (Barring unforseen circumstances like rematches)
WWE would still have storylines, but storylines would be more realistic and believable. A storyline should NEVER insult the intelligence of the viewer, and should not be cheesy or outrageous.
A continuation from the paragraph regarding the title situation, if WWE were to instate three titles (one per division) no title would necessarily be considered the Main Event championship. Meaning if big enough a middle weigh match could legitimately headline a PPV. For example; Chris Jericho VS Shawn Michaels for the middle weight championship would be a legitimate headlining match. Where as if they were to fight in the current WWE for the IC title it wouldn't be able to sell a PPV; simply because the match looks demeaned by being fought over a title lower than the WWE championship.
This would also let wrestlers of all sizes have an outlet to showcase their talent; and break the mold of wrestling being only for big roided cartoon characters. Of course big men would still have their place, but now with proper divisions in place which are taken seriously a Light Weight would have no reason to beef up just to advance on the card. By simply winning the light weight championship he would be considered to be in the cream of the crop.
Of course matches aren't limited as anybody of any size is aloud to move up a division; a heavyweight just isn't aloud to move down to a lower division. If that makes sense.

That is the basic jist of it; I think it could lead to another boom period for the WWE. As it does not alienate the current fans; since it still offers "storylines" just in a more realistic fashion. It also may draw in new fans; as wrestling wouldn't look as childish and could be taken more seriously.
HIT, crap, whatever; just reply with opinions or ideas.
