Yesterday afternoon was the most devastating thing that has happened this year. Chris Benoit, one of my all time favourite wrestlers, was dead. The hardest worker, the most passionate, and one of the most talented men in professional wrestling would never return to the ring again. And to hear that he, his wife Nancy, and his son Daniel were gone aswell just was very upsetting and put me at complete loss for words.
Monday Night RAW couldn’t of been handled better than the way it was executed last night. To see Vince McMahon standing in that empty arena last night in tears really got to me. At that point I knew. This was real. He’s actually gone.
Now as the events of what took place with Benoit and his family unfold, it makes me wish this wasn’t real. That this was just a bad dream. But that’s not the case. As many of you may know or not know, Benoit killed his wife Nancy on Friday, his seven-year-old son Daniel on Saturday, and himself sometime Sunday or early Monday. I don’t wish to go any further than that as details are abit disturbing.
Do I think Chris Benoit is a bad man? No. Whatever it was that was going through the mind of Chris Benoit in the past days wasn’t the real Chris Benoit. This wasn’t the true Chris. The true Chris Benoit was a man who deeply loved his family. He loved his son Daniel and his wife Nancy very much. His passion was wrestling. Entertaining the crowd every week of his life. Whether it was a crowd of 15 people or an arena 30 thousand he would try and give the fans the best damn show of their life.
I’ve always believed that Benoit was one of the all time greats and still do to this day. What Benoit became in the past week isn’t the way we should remember him. We should remember the good times. We should remember the real Chris Benoit. From his days in Japan, ECW, WCW, or WWE. From his days as the Pegasus kid to the Canadian Crippler. He will always leave an impression in the world of professional wrestling and probably in the minds of all the fans he’s entertained in his illustrious career. So I thank him for all that he’s done to entertain me and the millions of fans across the globe. He’s gone but will never be forgotten.
