Recently someone created a poll as to whether Chris Benoit should go into the Hall of Fame.
I was quite shocked that many people seem to view wrestlers as two total seperate entities. One being a real person who has a normal life and family and the other sort of as some sort of machine like character who just performs wrestling moves and is almost like a video game character.
To me a wrestler is much like any other performer in entertainment/sports. What we see is them at work doing their job. Some are good at their work (Angle, HBk etc) others are not. To me a wrestlers real life and life on TV are not interchangeable they are one and the same.

Benoit. He deserves nothing. Except eternal huge defeat, and being forced to lick big daddy V's boobs.

Exactly. I mean, sure, some of them have a character to play every week on tv, but that doesn't change who they are as a person.

If someone like a milkman did the same thing, no one would be saying he should be in a hall of fame for milkmen, just because he was a fast milkman.

I couldn't agree more. The wrestlers may play characters on television, but they are more or less the same person in real life away from the wacky world of pro wrestling. What you see is what you get.

Not to sound like I am part of the bandwagon but I look up to CM Punk. I mean he is a great role model, not getting into drugs and stuff like that is a good person to idolize. Not a kid strangling wife killing bastard.

Theres nothing like wrestling i dont even know how to describe it or what to compare their charactors to. But I gotta say i love Matt Hardys 'never say die' exist 2 inspire' attitude but if anything ive been more inspired by his blogs. Ive also been inspired by Kane to set people on fire. But i guess Matt is more himself on and off tv.

Let's not get into this again please.
I loved Benoit's work. I thought he was a great performer who deserved to be in the HOF years from now. But he slaughtered his wife and little son.
If he broke a world record, that's something they couldn't take away from him because of what he did to his family. But this is different. He does not deserve to be rewarded for his career in a business where you are looked up to by tons of children as a role model.
If this was 30 years ago and kayfabe was as it was, his name would never be mentioned by anyone ever again.
The man as a person was a murderer. No one wants to celebrate the career of someone like that. If OJ Simpson wasn't already inducted into the Football HOF in the 80's, do you think he would have been inducted after 1995? No.

I idolize these men cause they put their bodies on the line every week to entertain us and (some of them)for the love of wrestling. The do it just to entertain the fans and in that respect, deserve it back. And some of you will say what about say a postal worker or something like that, well I respect them too because without them, we wouldn't get our mail or we wouldn't get say fresh food delivered to the grocery stores if it wasn't for truck drivers. Idk, that's my opinion.

I know that I am a much different person away from work than I am at work. There are similarities, but not that many.

Just because someone takes bumps, they should be in the HOF? Benoit was a great technical wrestler, but let's be honest, he did nothing to help change the business like Foley did. By your rationale of someone putting their body on the line every night, everyone would be in the HOF.

I respect them not for the bumps, but just for them putting their lives on the line. Honestly, I know it seems stupid but it's just how I feel.

I believe that there are some wrestlers worth idolizing. Personally, I look up to Chris Jericho for being completely determined and hard-working, yet at the same time, a down-to-earth goofball.

I wasnt really talking about Benoit. It was just a general thing really. I mean I love The Undertaker and have watched him since 1992. Mark Callaway I respect because he has carried off a character and put on great matches that entertain me.
But I don't pretend to know anything about Undertaker personally and I assume he is a good guy outside the ring. You have to look at this as being the people who play these characters and the people behind them as not being two total seperate things because there is an overlap.

Just putting it out there...What if it was Hulk Hogan...Why do we forgive Stone Cold for beating up his wife out of rage?...Because their personal lives have nothing to do with their characters on tv

For me Austin was never convicted of beating up Debra so there is no definete facts.
The personal lives of the wrestlers might not have a direct effect on what happens on TV but if we are investing so much of our time and money into wrestlers then we are bound to be interested in the people behind the performers.
I know that for me I can't totally seperate the performer/person.
