From what I gathered, he was meant to be an outcast who didn't belong.

A bad ass who hung out in subway stations in Toronto? I never understood it either.

In a nutshell, it was a ripoff of the original Raven character.
You know, the dark, lonely, outcast, that can kick ass.

An outcast. That pretty much sums it up. Edge was by far at his best back when he had never held the title, and fought oh so hard for it only to be screwed every single time. I loved it. I wish it would've lasted longer. Even though him as champion is just...mmm

According to his book, he was supposed to be a tortured soul who wore leather pants, a dress shirt, had green hair, and let out primal screams during his matches( only the 1st & last went through..)

Would anyone want WWE to bring this side of edge back?

In his book, he says Edge was originally a dark, lonely freak, who had a bit of a sadistic side.. this didn't last long, of course.

I think in his book he said the gimmick was for him to be a tortured soul/outcast.

I know he was one that kept to himself, but shortly after his debut, Gangrel started hanging out with his "younger brother" Christian. Then shortly after that they formed The Brood.

I remember when Edge debuted. Originally they used him in the promo campaign for WWF OVer The Edge before he was an active guy on the roster and he didnt even wrestle at the event. He had a cool thing going on, but I think he's past that now. I prefer him how he is right now most.

Anyone remember for about 2 weeks he was called "Hedge" since he was Canadian and the H was silent?

His first gimmick was Sexton Hardcastle. Wonder if it had an inner meaning? Also wonder if WWE was gonna give it to him. If I was Sexton Hardcastle, I'd want them to give it to me.
