I can't decide which I would rather get. Both seem really good and games for either look good. I just can't decide which to get. What're owners of them opinions of them?

depends what you like...seeing as mr.psp mark up there^^ was no help here goes
what games are you into, are you into having a good time and playing classics like "zelda" "mario" and "metroid" or would you rather have something that has new age games like "killzone" and "syphon filter" and "DBZ"and junk.
I own both and i like them both, but i get alot more use out of my DS as not much psp games catch my eye lately. ive been playing "Zelda: Phantom Hourglass" and its a really good game to get into, you do alot of exploring islands and discovering treasures. the only games i have on my PSP are "GTA" and "DBZ".
if i were you i would do some research on the future game linups for both and choose the one which you will also enjoy playing down the line, because if you buy the wrong one you will want the other in 3 months time.

This will open the flood gates for finicky Nintendo fanboys and the NINTENDO IS 4 GAYZ crowd. I miss objective opinions from people who knew dick about games and gaming history.
But I digress. I'll try to help you out the best I can.
PSP is one heck of a device. The portable media player aspect and ability to surf the web (limitedly) is a major plus. The gaming library has vastly improved since the fairly rough first year or so. The online component is much superior to Nintendo's in many games. The DS will have you dealing with those dreaded friend codes (universally hated even among the biggest Nintendo supporters). In terms of screen size, PSP has a very nice and clear screen. PSP has many ports from PS2 games, and a common complaint I've noticed is that the lack of a second joystick nub hurts a lot of those ports and some other games.
Graphically PSP is without a doubt better than the DS. It can push out games that look very close to PS2 games, and some of which may even look right on par with them. PSP also has a few remakes that the DS doesn't have...off the top of my head there's Maverick Hunter X (Mega Man X remake) and Dracula X ( one of the Castlevania games). A somewhat recent advantage PSP has over DS has to do with the functionality with the PS3. Classic PS1 games can be downloaded and placed onto the PSP or the PS3.
The software on the PSP is definitely more catered to older audiences. If you're into sports games I doubt the DS will leave you completely satisfied. However, one concern is that many of the PSP games range from decent to just average. There have been dozens of highly praised PSP games, too - Loco Roco and MGS: Portable Ops, for example. The new God of War and Silent Hill make for something to look forward to in the future.
Now the DS is something entirely different. The graphics can definitely surpass the N64 (compare Mario Kart DS to Mario Kart 64 - 64 had 2D models!), but nobody is pretending that the DS can hang with the PSP graphically speaking. Not to be cliche but it truly is all about how the games are played, not how they look. As PSP has its share of PS2 ports, DS has its share of N64 ports and upgraded games. GBA was much like this with the SNES games as well. This will either be a plus or a disadvantage depending how you look at it. Luckily there are plenty of original DS games that make the system more than just a handheld 64.
DS games are typically more affordable than PSP games. Another thing to consider is that there are many of the "new gamer" and "touch generation" style games that are less deep and more for introducing people into video gaming. These games don't appeal to many of the more hardcore gamers, but there's a few of them worth playing. Clubhouse Games, for example, has tons of different games like darts, bowling, chess, etc. that anyone can play and have fun with.
The DS has a major focus on bringing everyone in on the games. You can play a decent amount of games via the internet or local wi-fi. Some games allow you to use one gaming cart and play with those around you. Friend codes are, again, a hassle that just has to be dealt with. Once you get that mess straightened out Wi-Fi games are loads of fun, albeit limited in communicative options.
The touch screen is a neat feature. Some developers don't make great use of it, but even so just having two screens right there in front of you is a major plus. Games that require you to pause to see a map no longer cause an interruption in gameplay, making it easier to navigate on the fly. I really like the two screens and the touch screen when used decently. Mario Kart hardly uses the touch screen, yet, it's one of the best games I've ever personally played.
Both have their flaws, some major and some minor, but I really believe that there's enough games on both ends to warrant a purchase. The DS is extremely popular, and thus, it might be wise in this kind of situation to keep that in mind. More popular = more people to play with. PSP has less of the mini-game collections and more of what you'd find on a home console. I think that's the major difference...PSP tries to be a home console away from home, and DS tries to be a different console away from your home console. DS has some meaty games too, don't get me wrong. Phantom Hourglass is supposed to be really good, and the new Dementium game is described as Doom 3 meets Silent Hill. I'm not even going to go over the "kiddy" argument since it's irrelevant to everything gaming is all about.
It's all in what you look for in games and what makes the most sense to you.

I'm getting a DS myself soon. The only reason I'd get a PSP is if I didn't have a MP3 player and I wanted a gaming system. Since I have a nice ipod, I don't need another media device. The DS just seems to have more fun "easy to get into" games.

I have homebrew stuff on my DS, and that's all I liked on the PSP, so all I want the PSP for now is Dracula X

Go with the DS, it is far superior as a gaming machine than the PSP. If you're into a portable media center, then go with the PSP. But if you want games that are going to be a lot more fun and unique go with the DS by leaps and bounds.

This will open the flood gates for finicky Nintendo fanboys and the NINTENDO IS 4 GAYZ crowd. I miss objective opinions from people who knew dick about games and gaming history. No offense X, but there has never been such a thing as an objective opinion in gaming. Nobody should EVER get a PSP for it's media functions. It's a great gaming machine. For the 200 bucks the system costs now, you might get a 1 gig memory stick, and that's only with the Daxter silver pack. For 50 dollars more, you could get a real MP3 player with video playback. When you buy a PSP, it had better be for the games you see released and in the future (except Gran Turismo, I'm heart broken since I'm now positive that's never coming out...), not because it's a game player that will let you only a single video or a handful of songs and some game saves. If you want it to be a media center, be prepared to spend extra scratch on a good sized memory stick. At least the DS is just focused solely on gaming. Unless you blow your money on the shitty web browser that doesn't even support sound....

The DS is hands down the most entertaining handheld system ever, which I've gotten hundreds of hours of fun out of.

And no, not for bad mouthing the DS, but for the way they did it...

I think I'll go with the DS after reading people's opinions here. I'm not huge into games, I don't even have a 360 because I really don't care enough yet. I have an iPod, so I really have no use for PSP as a MP3 player. Most people just mention graphics for the PSP, well that isn't a huge deal to me, I'm looking forward to Fire Pro Returns over Smackdown next week. My friend was trying to talk me into a PSP, cause he can "hack" them, he made it sound appealing. Thanks XZEROX the most for pretty much running down both console.

Get a PSP, There much more Fun to a person over 9 IMO This is an example of a post to NOT listen to. It all comes down to your gaming needs. Do you want some mature games, with the ability to watch Movie's? Or do you want not so mature games, but are fun as anything you will ever play? Do you like Zelda, Mario, and Pokemon? If so, get a DS. And my personal recommendation, after owning both, is get a DS. It has a way better library of games.

I would say PSP but that's because I only have a PSP. I have always wanted a DS, there are some great games. I love my Mario games so those games are fun if that's what you are into. Or, you can get GTA, Metal Gear, Street Fighter on the PSP. Either way you see it, you will have fun no matter what.

It depends. I have both, and I get more play out of my PSP. I have 15 DS games, including New Super Mario Bros and Super Mario 64 DS, and I must say the only game I still play out of all of those is Animal Crossing. Most DS games, IMO, have exactly no replay value. Also, like the Wii (once again it's my opinion), I got bored of it's novelty two weeks into it. But I myself like New-Age, kind of techy stuff, so the PSP is right down my alley.
Anyways, in short:
Get a DS if you both: Have the money to get numerous games, and also don't get tired or annoyed of stuff quickly. Or if you just want something you can pick up and play, and not get TOO into it. (I have yet to get Zelda though)
Get a PSP if you need something that multi-tasks and is more modern in terms of game styles (from what I saw on the DS, it's either a platformer or a side-scrolling shooter)

I have both; always enjoyed my PSP more. Mostly because I dont just use it for games. I use it for MP3's... videos, browsing the web and more. Its more like mini-entertainment system. I'm always using it on the bus & at work. Just got more replay value out of it.
