Hey guys. I'm currently in the middle of making a big decision. I just purchased a 40 inch 1080 samsung lcd, now I need a gaming system. I was thinking about one of those samsung upconvert players out there for 80 bucks since they said it can improve the quality of your old dvds. Does the ps3 blu-ray improve your old dvds? Is there a certain HDMI cable specifically for tv to ps3 hook up I would need? I was thinking 360 with hd player but I don't really care for online gaming so that would be pointless to buy one right? Thanks for any feedback.

I can't help you in terms of upscale converting, but I will say, don't base your decision entirely on online gaming. Right now, the 360 offers far superior gaming choices overall, and online is a nice added bonus - it's not like you have to play online, but the option is always there.
The same can be said for the PS3, but their online community, while free, is nowhere near as expansive or enjoyable.
The choice, however, is totally up to you. I suppose it could also depend on whether you'd like to have HD-DVD's or Blu-Ray.

Yes, the PS3 Blu-Ray drive upconverts your standard DVDs to 1080 with the use of just a standard HDMI cable.
