Anyone that's a fan of the book has to wish it was set in LA, not NY, the dog was dead, that the filmmakers didn't do flashbacks of giant action scenes, but I don't know, I suppose there's a possibility it could turn out alright, but I'm not counting on it.

Ive been wanting to see this since the first trailer was online awhile back. I must agree the creatures dont look very well done but it still looks like a bad ass movie.

If the movie didn't look unfaithful enough, here's some even worse news:

I wonder if this will get the R or PG13 rating. Whoever read the book...was there alot of violence?

The book is definitely R, and if the studio has any brains at all, the movie will be as well. If it's PG-13 I'm boycotting.

Charlton Heston did a good job in Omega Man, and it will be hard for Will Smith to live up to my expectations.

Yea if its PG13 its safe to say it will suck. People said the same about Live Free or Die Hard, but that was a pretty sweet movie.

Keep in mind Live Free or Die Hard wasn't based on source material that was hard R, not to mention if it was R and did retain the level of violence set by the rest of the series, it would have been even better.

Oh yeah, I loved the crapout of it, even after I was pissed about the studio toning down the violence. But I Am Legend is a completely different story. Not to say violence makes a picture what it is, but the violence in I Am Legend is as much a part of the story as is Robert Neville's survival. He is a normal guy (which, in the movie it looks like they've changed him to a military man for no real reason) whose hobbies include classical music and science, so the fact that he has to savagely murder the living corpses of the people he knew and loved was a huge part of the story. In fact, it's the entire story, because every day he thinks about what it would be like to give up, he hates dumping bodies in the giant fire pit, and he especially hates the fact that the main vampire hunting him, Ben Cortman, was his very best friend when he was alive. The fact that Neville has to hack up the bodies of people he knew disgusts him, but since the book is all about his survival being the only link to humanity as he knew it, if you take away that visceral violence, you've taken away the meaning of the book. But it's really pointless in the end, since the movie really doesn't seem to care much about the book at all. I mean, the dog dies in the book, and that is one of the last threads of Neville's humanity, his attempts to save the dog. When it dies, it depresses him even more, he knows he's the last surviving non-vampire on the planet, and that pushes his drive to survive ever further. In the movie the dog lives and becomes his friend. Because in movies people hate to see dogs die. Which is a summation of this entire film, it's a big YOU! to Richard Matheson, even moreso than Omega Man or Last Man On Earth, because at least those had the decency to change the title to disguise the fact that it's an adaptation of the book. Here, they're spitting directly in his face, and if they take away the bloody violence of the book, that's yet another slap in the face. But then again, casting Will Smith, changing the setting, updating the story, and adding in epic action sequences are all slaps in the face to Richard Matheson, so obviously the studio doesn't give a crapif they stay faithful to the book at all. So yeah, it doesn't really compare to Live Free or Die Hard in the end.

I'm very excited to see this, I read the book a few years back and I loved it. I just hope it turns out good, because a lot of movies that are based on books usually feature big actors in them and have a lot of media attention, but end up just being a huge let down overall.
