yeah, the JJ Abrams monster movie that caught fire due to the teaser shown before "Transformers" finally has a new trailer. after like 5 months of nothing but a lame viral marketing campaign, i was almost convinced that it wasnt even a real movie, but yeah
the trailer is attached to Beowulf, and there's a few (really poor camera phone) videos of it up on Youtube. can't tell what the hell is going on in them, so i'll just wait until the HD version is up on apple, or if i see Beowulf. but the movie is called "Cloverfield" after all.
meh

They really should've stuck with "1-18-08."

They really should've stuck with "1-18-08." That's the date it comes out. Doesn't make sense for it to be the movie title. Eh, I thought the original trailer was cool because it's a semi-originial concept, but I'm curious to see more, if it is more than 50% about the characters shown in the first trailer, it's going to be god-awful. Now if it's all about monsters rampaging everywhere, it will be kick ass.

If the movie is set on present day, 1-18-08, then that'd be a sweet name 'cause it'll be a moment in history.

Well, it's not. Cloverfield it is. Here's a description of the trailer, for those that don't want to wait until tomorrow:

I'm a little upset the title isn't 1-18-08, that seems absolutely perfect to me.
I'm also a big disappointed they're even hinting at showing the monster in the trailers, I wanted everything to be a huge mystery.
To be honest, the whole viral marketing campaign for this thing has gone down the tubes - they waited too long to give us any sort of real information, and now they're giving us too much with a single trailer if you ask me.
Oh well, I still haven't been this excited for a movie in a long time, so they must be doing something right.

it seems the decision to kind of rush out a makeshift trailer was because with the WGA writers strike, they had no one to carry on the viral marketing campaign(which was lacking anyway). and Abrams is very relient on his writers, so he wasnt gonna bring in scabs. so rather than risk releasing the movie in January with absolutely nothing more than the July teaser, they put together a somewhat shoddy "trailer" that isnt much more than a teaser.
the video probably was pulled already, yeah... but you didn't miss anything. the quality was so bad, that i literally had no idea what was happening. the only things you could make out(mostly thanks to the trailer descriptions) were the helicopter shot of the headless SoL, the horse drawn carriage with no driver(which is an awesome shot, btw), and then the helicopter getting attacked at the end. in no way, shape or form can you identify the monster or the "little monsters."
i really do think this is going to be a character-driven survival piece, though. with the teen drama backgrounds of the writer and director, the unknown cast, and the modest $30M budget... i think we might not even see the monster in full view until the end of the film. which would kind of suck, but i could forgive it if they continue to deliver with the gut-punch apocalyptic moments like the Statue of Liberty's head getting ripped off, and an empty horse-drawn carriage walking through a deserted Manhattan

yea, in fact i just found this on another board. MUCH better quality than the last one i saw. and the hoster is disguising the video so Paramount doesnt find it and pull it(clever).
still, work quickly... it wouldnt surprise me if Paramount still finds it rather quickly and kills it

Yeah, it's only got like 200 views, that's actually a pretty good job of hiding it.
I dunno, that trailer is just as vague as the last one. Not to mention it made me even more motion sick.
I'll be seeing this, because I'm a sucker for monster movies, but I'm not buying into the viral campaign or slobbering all over it watching it frame by frame. If the reviews are good when it comes out, I'll go catch it in theaters.

I'm afraid you're right about the tone and subject of the movie for the most part, although the guy that did that scene by scene description of the trailer said he was watching a movie at Paramount right next door to an Executive/Crew screening of Cloverfield, and the walls were shaking and things were crashing the entire runtime of the movie. So who knows. Maybe all that noise is just in the background as it focuses on the characters. Who knows, and at this point the movie is 2 months away, so I'll just be waiting for first wave reviews before decided to see it in theaters or not.

I just got back Beowulf (which was pretty good, and a ing blast if you catch it in 3D) and I have to say the trailer is sick. It expands a slight bit on what happened in the teaser, but you still have no clue as to what is really going on.
