Whitechapel's "The Somatic Defilement" was the heaviest album released this year, and possibly of the last 5-10 years. I never had to turn the stereo in car down from a mid level volume so I wouldn't kill my speakers. I've never been so blown away by such catchy deathcore that can stand out as a strong death metal act, but incorporate 'core cliches so well.

Haven't really heard much this year, something i should really try to do is stay on top of new releases.
Against Me! - New Wave (really strong album, if you take away the politics)
Hot Cross - Risk Revival (incredibly confident swansong, these guys will be missed)
Explosions in the Sky - All Of a Sudden I Miss Everyone (Post-rock titans stun again)
Tera Melos/By The End of Tonight - Complex Full Of Phantoms (another nutty release from these two bands, just insane.)

Only album I bought all year. If it was sold here, I also would have got Blackbird by Alter Bridge.

'Brand New Day' by The Drama Club feat. Ben Burnley (singer of Breaking Benjamin).
Kickass song and I suggest anyone whos a fan of either, or good old hard rock ballads check it out on myspace.
