Grindhouse was terrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrible I'm glad I'm not the only one. If it didn't have "QUINTEN TARANTINO" plastered on it, I think there would be a lot more people who thought it was trash. most of the people who liked it are people who are fans of the Genre and fans of the directors. But almost everyone I know in real life disliked it. So outside of the internet i think you'd find more people who disliked it, or haven't even seen it. Hence the disappointing box office numbers. It legitimately is my favorite movie of the year.. has nothing to do with how it was marketed or me having some kind of blind love for anything Tarantino does..

I still have way too many to watch to make a real list, and havent seen most of the critically acclaimed movies, so my favorites so far are Spider-Man 3, The Bourne Ultimatum and Futurama: Benders Big Score.
I'll probably compile a real list when I've caught up with everything.. this time next year.

I liked Grindhouse, up until the last part of Tarantino's movie. The first 20 minutes of his was good, then too much talking and the girls didn't even get killed at the end like everyone wanted
The best part was by far the fake trailers though
"And Nicholas Cage as Fu Man Chu"

The problem with Grindhouse is, besides Tarantino being a weak director, the exploitation genre appeals to such a small niche of audiences. Eventhough I didn't like Death Proof that much (loved Planet T), I appreciated the nod to one of the most entertaining film genres and one of the best times to be a movie goer (a sleazy one, at that).

Grindhouse Knocked Up Superbad Live Free or Diehard Hot Fuzz Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theatres (alotta people didnt like it, I did) 300 3:10 to Yuma. 30 Days of Night (bloodmark)
The Jet/Interstate Scene in "Diehard 4" was awesome, sold me on the film. But i've always been a sucker for Bruce Willis.
..and i thought "Planet Terror" was better than DeathProof, but i like zombie films.

Of the ones I saw in theatres or new release rental:
The Good: 300 Transformers Superbad The Simpsons Movie War (great action with a better plot) Hot Fuzz Stardust
The Guilty Pleasures: Shoot Em Up Live Free or Die Hard Aqua Teen Hunger Force Movie Colon Film For Theatres
The Okay: Pirates of a Caribbean: At World's End Resident Evil Extinction Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer (like most Marvel movies, the sequel is better, the third will be blah.) Spider-man 3 (see above... to be fair, it is better the second time you see it) American Gangster (true story or not, it seems like it could have been better) The Curse of the Golden Flower (Chow Yun Fat was not a nice man)
The Crap-tacular: Epic Movie (it had its moments, but not many. glad I saw it free) Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (bad editing, needed to be longer) No Country For Old Men (1st half brilliant, then it fell apart. I was actually mad when I left the theatre) Ghost Rider (still better than The Hulk)
Before the end of 2007 I plan on seeing: I am Legend, Juno, There Will Be Blood, and probably Sweeney Todd.

I'm going to throw my 2 cents in on the Grindhouse debate. I loved Planet Terror, but I'm a zombie movie guy. Death Proof kinda bored me, but it was not pure shit.
A big factor in my score was the fact that when I watched it I was with a large group of friends at a packed theater full of people that love these kind of flicks. Being with that crowd was like being at Wrestlemania 18 during the Rock/Hogan match.

I'm shocked that more people aren't saying 3:10 to yuma when they mention the best films of the year.....that is easily the best one ive seen all year In my opinion the story just fell flat on its face around half way through the movie. I stopped caring what happened to these people, and that not a good sign. I left it at number 25 on my list because of the good performances, but it falls incredibly short of being one of the best movies of the year.

I'm not going to stereotype any one specific person, but I do know that a majority of the people whom I have talked to only saw it because Tarantino's name was marketed with it. That's fine, it's a brilliant marketing tool - but it doesn't make it a good movie. I'm fine with other people liking it. I just thought it was trash.
