The 'evening commissioner' shot reminds me of Jack Nicholson. There's a certain way that Ledger puffs his cheeks out that looks like Nicholson from the Batman '89 scene where he kills Palance and sits down to read the paper.

So, in this film, Joker DOES NOT reapply his makeup, correct?
God, I love the fact, that since i doubt their is any real backstory for the Joker, that is just an in-human maniac.
But god, i hope when Batman finally subdues Joker, that Joker tells the "Joke" about the asylum and flashlight across the building or another joke, and him and Bats both begin to laugh. Because let's face it, The Joker is correct, Batman is just as insane as Joker, just manifests in a different way.
