It's about a washed up pro wrestler, who now works at a supermarket, wrestling in shows on weekends. It's all about him trying to reclaim his former glory. Coming in 2009, The Wrestler: The Shane Douglas Story. So Kinda Like Ready To Rumble (2000)? I think without the fans trying to help.

I for one am glad Cage backed out. With him he might have had had some more star power, but Mickey just seems more like he would fit a wrestler role

I'm just excited that Rourke is getting some actual pro training and they are going to dive into the backstage politics of wrestling and expose the secrets and what's truly real and what isn't.

Philadelphia wrestling movie looking for extras
By ERIC GARGIULO phillyBurbs.com
A classic pro wrestling movie is being remade for the big screen right here in Philadelphia, PA. The 1974 movie, “The Wrestler” starring Mickey Rourke is currently in production and you can be a part of it.
Several scenes for the movie will be filmed on Friday, February 8th at the New Alhambra Arena in Philadelphia, PA. The New Alhambra Arena is more commonly known as the old ECW Arena and is one of the most famous wrestling arenas in North America.
Wrestling fans are needed as extras for the movie. Fans must be available at 3PM, February 8th at the New Alhambra Arena. The only catch is that you must buy a ticket for Combat Zone Wrestling’s show the following night at the New Alhambra. Additional scenes will be filmed for the movie during CZW’s show on February 9.

Dear fellow Rourkaholics,
FYI: The Wrestler is going to be shooting in Philly and Jersey and YOU, YES YOU can be AN EXTRA IN A MICKEY ROURKE FILM! (I don't work for any of these promotions I am just passing the info along.)
Afa The Wild Samoan's WXW Wrestling and Darren Aronofsky's movie The Wrestler present a live event/movie shoot at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1 at the Pioneer Club, 209 Jefferson Ave. in Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.
Admission is free.
The Wrestler is a film starring actor Mickey Rourke (9 ½ Weeks, Sin City) as a past-his-prime pro wrestler making a comeback. Gritty and intense, the movie is expected to showcase the wrestling business more realistically than any other film.
Helmed by Aronofsky (The Fountain, Requiem For A Dream, PI), it has already received some hype. Nicholas Cage was going to star in the movie, but he opted out.
Afa The Wild Samoan is a three-time WWE tag team champ and a 2007 WWE Hall Of Famer with more than 40 years experience in the sport. He is a respected pro wrestling trainer, who is also CEO of The Wild Samoan Training Center and WXW.
Afa was recruited into the movie making fold because of his experience in Hollywood and wrestling. Named head trainer for Rourke, Afa has been assisted by WXW superstars Smooth Tommy Suede and Supreme Lee Great.
The Wrestler's production crew and WXW are anticipating a packed house of energetic fans.

The film is being directed by one of the movie industry's most respected directors, Darren Aronofsky ("Requiem for a Dream", "The Fountain"). I wonder if it will be like the in-ring action is real, or if it will be more realistic and about how its choreographed.

I wonder if it will be like the in-ring action is real, or if it will be more realistic and about how its choreographed. It's been confirmed that the wrestlers will talk with each other during the matches, and blading will be explained and shown; the backstage terms such as "mark" and "pop" will be brought to the table. It'll all be there.

Pi and Requiem are two of my favorite films ever. The fountain, havent seen it, because of what i've heard, can't say it sounds good. But yes, the fact he's going to ACTUAL INDY WRESTLING SHOWS, and learning from some of the best outside of the WWE, makes me think this will be the best wrestling feature film i've ever seen. I mean, it must be better than The Jesse Venture Story, if anyone has seen that fact-less debacle.

The Fountain was awesome, in my opinion...
And do you think this will be better than Grunt! The Wrestling Movie? Or I like to Hurt People?
Man, if it is, it will be awesome...
