The Oscar nominations have been announced and I'm sure that I am not the only person that disagrees with some of the nominations. So lets voice our opinions on which movies got screwed.
In my opinion the biggest snub has to be Into The Wild. It might not have been the best movie of 2007, but it was the most heartfelt and moving picture I saw last year. I have yet to speak to someone that was not moved by this film, Maybe its because it speaks to the person inside of us that wants to get out, to find something new, to find something real.
Sean Penn did a masterful job directing, and Emile Hirsh gives a star making performance if there ever was one. This movie feels completely genuine and I dare anyone to watch this and not feel something. The music is quite simply amazing. Eddie Vedder did the entire soundtrack and he gives the music a very earthy feel and a deep tone with his voice.
If you ask me this should be up for Best Picture instead of Juno. Penn deserves a nomination for Best Director quite a bit more than Jason Reitman. As for Emile he should be up for Best Actor, swap out Tommy Lee Jones for him, Tommy should be in the Best Supporting nod's for No Country.
The music nominations this year are a joke (as if any of the other are not, but I digress) Enchanted get 3 nominations while Into The Wild gets none? Somethings not right about that.
I'm done bitching now, but feel free to disagree with me or bitch about some other movie that got boned.

I'm so looking forward to this year's Oscars as I feel it's the best year so far this decade, I hope the show goes on.
- The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and Zodiac not getting nominated for Best Picture is a travesty, the latter not getting a SINGLE nomination in any category is unforgivable. I've seen all the Best Picture nominees and they're all deserving, but these two should've replaced Atonement and Michael Clayton.
- Best Director nominees should be Paul Thomas Anderson, Joel and Ethan Coen, David Fincher, Tim Burton and Ridley Scott. Though Julian Schnabel did an amazing job on Diving Bell, I'm glad he got nominated. I don't know what the academy was thinking nominating Jason Reitman. Tony Gilroy I can understand, insane directorial debut.
- Christian Bale in Rescue Dawn not getting a nomination for Best Actor is a shame.
- The Supporting Actor category is pretty damn solid with better performances than some of the lead actor nominees. I'm sad to say I haven't seen Into the Wild yet but the old dude is taking up Paul Dano's spot.
- Denzel's momma in American Gangster is taking Helena Bonham Carter's spot in Supporting Actress.
- The academy finally got the Cinematography category right, those are the 5 best shot films of the year.
- I was looking forward to seeing Jonny Greenwood win Best Score for There Will Be Blood, but he wasn't eligible due to using a song from one of his previous albums.

Honestly, Juno doesn't deserve it's Best Picture nomination.
Good movie, nowhere close to that good, though.

You have a point, same with Little Miss Sunshine last year. But I'm glad both got nominated.

The fact that King of Kong didn't get ing nominated in the Best Documentary category is a disgrace. I also hate that blubbering vagina of Michael Moore so it's doubley painful.

Its kinda odd, all of the Documentaries nominated are about the war in Iraq, except for Mikey's Sicko. I haven't seen any of them yet but seriously, do we need every documentary that gets any recognition to be about the war?
That being said I must find a copy of "King of Kong" this weekend.

It was actually kind of hard for me to find my copy, I had to go to a few different stores, and the store I did find it at I got the last copy.

- Christian Bale in Rescue Dawn not getting a nomination for Best Actor is a shame. I finally saw it this week after having it sit on my shelf for a month or so. I had heard of the little bit of Oscar buzz he had when it came out, but honestly now that I've seen it, I don't think it's that big of a snub. Don't get me wrong - great performance. But I don't think it's a huge shame. My personal favourite Bale performance was The Prestige and thought if anything, he would get some recognition around last years Oscar season. Same with Nolan for a Director nom. Or maybe I just sound really biased because it's my favourite movie.

I figure this is the best place to ask this: What, exactly, is "King of Kong"?

I figure this is the best place to ask this: What, exactly, is "King of Kong"? Its a documentary about a man trying to break the world record high score in Donkey Kong. Its really about the dude trying to break the record which is held by Billy Mitchel, a world class douche bag that holds the record.

Sounds incredibly awesome. I may have to track that down.

Man, Mitchel comes across as a world class cock in that movie. Most gamers hated him in the first place anyways, but now American can feel our hatred

Robert Downey, Jr. got snubbed for Best Supporting Actor in Zodiac IMO. Good call, Downey is quickly becoming one of the best actors in Hollywood.

I agree with that assesment. But he's always been one of Hollywood's better actors. He's just clean and sober now. I can't wait to see his performance as Tony Stark in Iron Man, it looks like a role he was just made to play.

If you haven't yet you should check out Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. He truly kicks ass in it, same with Val Kilmer.

I've heard about how awesome that film was and I remember wanting to see it. Thanks for the reminder, dude!

Just love the nickname." ------------------------- "You know what you'll see if you look up the word 'idiot' in the dictionary?" "A picture of me?" "No! The definition of the word 'idiot'! Which you f*cking are!" Val Kilmer is absolute gold in that movie.
