Alright the way i see it is everything plays it's part in wrestling. so if you play your part in 'everything' then you are then considered "good"
From Psychology to Techniques... Being good at one almost isn't good enough... unless you're GREAT! but the way i see it, saying Psychology is a good example but is almost to wide of an area in wrestling to cover...
You can have psychology, but it has to play with your character... if you use the same 7 steps in a match that were taught through and through wrestling... which some of you may know. If a match is done that way yet involving different characters than "Face and Heel"... i can't necassarily give examples of what to do in each situation for each type of gimmick, because not only do i not want to type that much, but niether am i good enough to be giving that huge of a range of advice...
With that said, never forgot to keep all key factors in mind durring working your "psychology" whether keeping it Comedy, or if it be serious and suspence... you have to pretty much be the eye on how things have to happen...
shane can tell ya that it will happen over time with ring experience and advice from others backstage... Advice not Critisism
Now... Technique is another term that covers to large of a range in wrestling to be disected by the unknowing mind...
Sooooo... in order to keep your technique 'Crisp' and make your matches solid you also have to play off of a few things...
Charisma is a big tactic that comes to play here... seeing as some of us (myself) lack a gimmick and really Promo style charisma i would have to say pick a character that you feel comfortable with, nothing to complex for your own taste in order to please others... Developing a character from what i understand is a huge part of wrestling... before eving getting into a match, that's where i messed up. However... if you Don't have a spacific character such as "Gay" or "Gothic" or any of that... you'll simply have to play off of your Natural Charisma... With me, when in a backyard wrestling match i would have to say i play off of my whitty little comments and things of that nature... when in a more serious match or on the indy scene i play more off of the serious character.. wanting to get the job done and being a determined style... I suppose you can say... BUT! that's not even all there is behind 'Charisma'... you also have to use INTENSITY! when doing things... little things... you can get stomped on and make a noise... move your body a little as if it hurt... but without facial expression and things of that nature you wouldn't be able to tell the Smaller more "in the box" story that eventually leads to the "big picture" which is leaving your audience entertained and thinking "oh, i can't beleieve he got screwed like that" or "oh wow, he really faught passed the odds stacked against him that time!"... what ever the "story" may be that you are attempting to portray in your matches, be sure that they compliment your character and vice-versa...
i could chat about this for ever... and i have helped a few out the best i can through aim about these topics...
I see what Both of you all are saying with technique and psychology...
psychology...Have a story you want to play off of, or start... and aim for what you want to portray to the audience with the creation of each 'spot' that you involve in the match.
Technique... Simply Don't do things out of the way of the character you use... and if you do, find a good way to incorperate these things... also never put things in a match when they are considered "out of place" you never want your audience to think "why did he just do that?"
What i'm basically saying is no ONE THING can make a wrestler or a match.... It's having talent in more than one area that will lang you where you're looking to go with the audience (smaller picture) or in the business (big picture)
Character/Charisma/Intensity... all things that can be applied by YOU and YOURSELF...
Crisp Technique/ solid matches/solid spots... this will take more than one person on any occasion... i can give a kick ass paylay but if the guy taking it does a bad bump... then it doesn't look good at all...
This is when your sense of experience should come to play, If you are up against a person that doesn't seem capable of doing what you really want, change a few things accordingly. Dont give a inverted rana to someone that can't head bump! haha...
that's all in a different topic. "Putting Together a match: What YOU can do" i suppose would be a title that summed it up.
Also... everything. Flips. Neck bumps. Head Bumps. Rolling. Chain Wrestling. hardcore. deathmatches. all of those and much more... Comedy and Sex appeal... it all has a part in wrestling... Yes you can have a good show missing a few of these qualities but you can't have an effective show with ONLY one of these qualities... Well i suppose you can, but not in a wide variety of an audience... never model your style off of ONE PERSON or ONE STYLE/Technique...
for example: "i want to wrestle like the rock" or "i want to wrestle like aj styles"... because if i see some mark acting like the rock... and then i'm asked "would you rather watch this mark or the rock wrestle" im going to choose the rock... Originality is a huge key. and also, i can do flips and stuff like that and nothing else... almost everyone that like FLIPS AND HIGHSPOTS would love my matches... but that's about it... so i try and incorperate my own style of each style and/or technique. Blah i talk to much
-zayne- Hope someone actually read this all the way through, im sure there are errors and crap... i suck.
