I have to say; 25 TNA wrestlers isn't a huge roster compared to THQ's SmackDown! series; which usually features 40-60 stars. Why not add the lesser stars of the company to overflow the roster with wrestlers?
Yeah, originally we had big plans for the roster but we thought that was too ambitious for our for TNA game. We decided to spend 80% of our time designing the gameplay instead of game modes and wrestlers.
I see, exactly how long have you been working on this project?
A long time! Espicially for a wrestling game. We began working on the main feature on the game which of course, was the gameplay. After 2 years of creating the core game, we next moved on to creating the roster which we gradually added to over time...
I'm sorry to interupt but since many stars have come and gone to and from TNA Wrestling what kind of difficulties did you have with the roster?
It was frustrating to see somebody leave just after we finished their in-game model. But our skeletol system we use for making our models made our lives alot easier since we could just remove the polygons from the wrestler who left the company and build whoever came to TNA afterwards.
Is that how you managed to get Booker T in the game son quickly?
Laughs Yes thats right!
Everybody knows you've been keeping your game behind the curtain for a very long time. Do you think you could reveal a few smidgets on the game.
Certainly! Try not to get me fired though!
Laughs OK Would it be possible for a hardcore wrestling gamer to compare iMPACT! to the classic WWF NO MERCY videogame?
Yes they would, TNA iMPACT!'s gameplay was actually imspired by NO MERCY's arcade like style. The best way to describe iMPACT! is NO MERCY for next gen consoles...but better!
We heard you recently confirmed DLC for the game.
Yes thats correct.
Could you give us a few hints on what kind of stuff that might be?
Laughs Sorry but right now we're keeping DLC top secret at the moment. But I can promise you we'll reveal more on that soon!
Right, Could you give us a breif list of match types that will make it in the game?
Like all wrestling games we have single, one fall-matches in the game. We also have Tag-team, 3-way and 4-way matches. Full metal mayhem and Ultimate X will be in too.
What about gimmick matches that are in TNA? Six-sides-of-steel? Barbed Wire Massacre? Elevation X?
Unfortunatly, there will be no cages in the game but Elevation X and Barbed wire Massacre will be playable!
Awesome! So how do these two matches work in the game?
Well we can't talk about Barbed Wire Massacre just yet, but the Elevation X match is finished and ready when the game goes gold. Both matches will also be featured in the Story Mode and are part of a system in story mode called "Career threatening matches" With Elevation X, players engage in a much more hardcore and more challenging variation of Ultimate X. Both players start in the ring and from there it will be pretty much a race to the top of the structure. This isn't just a typical "man who gets his bar to maximum the most wins" there is actually so much gameplay tied into this match.
Right, what about this "career threatening match" feature? What kind of involvment will this have in the story mode?
At this moment in time I can't go into detail about this; however we will reveal more on this during the summer.
OK. So when will we ever get the official release date for the eager gamers waiting for iMPACT!
Well at the moment the UK and the rest of Europe will see the game hit shelves in late July, iMPACT! will be available in the United States the following month in early August.
Thanks for your time!
My pleasure!
Seems like the new TNA game's shaping up nicely. Although I've got one problem with it...April Fools!
