*Please note that I do this review out of love so a reply or karma would be nice. Also, my girlfriend's digital camera hates me so I have to use online photos.*
Today I picked up three figures from DC Direct's new Elseworlds series 1 line. I picked up Red Son Superman, Red Son Wonderwoman, and Crimson Mist Batman.
The headliner of this series, Red Son Superman, is every bit as impressive as the pictures suggest. The stoic expression along with the rest of the scultping is great. The paint design is just like the comic, the red and gray motif. Yes, he does come with the Soviet flag, which is an awesome accessory (could possibly be useful for Nikolai Volkoff!). His attached cape is a fairly flexable. Superman is articulated at the head, ball jointed shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and knees. I find no real flaws with this figure but I do wish his knees had a little more movement to them to help simulate his flying position. I would highly rfecommend buying him as he is the most popular figure of the set (Mine was the fifth one sold today!)
I wanted Red Son Wonder Woman to be a companion to Superman and build a Soviet super team in my universe (with Omega Red, Colossus, possibly Kilowog, and Crimson Dynamo if I can get one!). There was only one of her left at the comic shop so she must be pretty popular. Her outfit is just like the normal WW costume except for the red, black, and gray motif. She comes with a removable lasso of truth that fits on a hook on her hip. Her skirt is made of the same pliable plastic as Superman's cape. She is articulated with ball-jointed shoulders, elbows, wrists, waist, hips, and knees. Her neck has a joint, but her hair severely restricts movement. The other flaw I have is her right eye looks lazy due to how it was painted. Otherwise, this is a great figure.
I couldn't resist this one per case Vampire Batman from the Crimson Mist story. The picture doesn't do the figure justice. This figure is full of incredible detail that makes him look ghoulish and deranged. The portions of his body not covered in black costume are a pale blue accented with dark blue shadows. He has an attached tattered cape made of the same material as Superman's cape. The sculpting on his hands are reminiscent of Nosferatu with gangly looking claw-like fingers. The head is incredible with its beady red eyes, fangs, and extra long demonic ears. He even comes with two bat wings that attach to the back (ball-shaped pegs to allow for movement) and a wooden stake with a bat-wing across it to make it look like a cross. He is articulated with a ball-jointed head, ball-jointed shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and the bat wings. The biggest flaw I have with the figure is that the wings are really tough to put in and can pop out pretty easily if you try to move them.
