We'll all nominate writers. Afterwards, I'll post a poll and we'll eliminate one writer per day, until we have crowned our favorite writer of 2005? Simple and savory. I'll even lead. Boxstep, but nevertheless. Brian Michael Bendis (Ultimate Spider-man, etc.) and Mark Millar (Marvel Knight's Spider-man, etc).

I really like Bill Willingham this year for his work on War Crimes. I thought it was very well written with very good comic relief and I really enjoyed reading it.
Also i think Judd Winick should be in there for all the controversy he has caused with bringing back Jason Todd, a move i liked.
NOmination for worst writer of the year is for Devin Grayson who is horrendously boring. Reall really boring and terrible.

Can I veto Bendis? God, I hate that guy's writing so much.
I have four names to add:
1. Dan Slott. He began the year with the end of She-Hulk and ended it with the beginning of She-Hulk and The Thing. In between, we got GLA and Spider-Man/Human Torch. Top-notch titles all around.
2. Robert Kirman. Invincible is quite possibly the best superhero comic in the universe. The Walking Dead is quite possibly the best comic in the universe. Marvel Team-Up is a joy to read. Marvel Zombies is off to a great start.
3. Mark Waid. Finished his fantastic run on Fantastic Four, then transitioned into the best thing to come out of House of M, the Spider-Man: House of M mini-series. Polish it off with some top-notch work at DC.
4. Geoff Johns. Countdown to Infinite Crisis is the reason I read DC Comics. Infinite Crisis is the reason I consider DC the best publisher at the moment. Green Lantern: Rebirth finished and transitioned into not only a new Green lantern ongoing, but Green Lantern Corps: Recharge as well. His JLA run with Allan Heinberg was great. Toss in Teen Titans, JSA, the Flash...is there any doubt Johns was the man of 2005?

If I could, and it mattered, I'd second Johns. Infinite Crisis is yummy pudding.

Bollocks... all my favorites have already been named.
Chris Claremont
Chase, can you do this for artists too? After all the medium needs both just as much to work.

Geoff Johns definitely. His work is phenomenal and when he stopped writing The Flash, you could see the quality just drop instantly. Probably cause he's gonna die in IC, but still.
I also love Robert Kirkman. He's got the best two books going right now. The Walking Dead got me into comics, along with the new Street Fighter series (which I'm still waiting for SF 2 #1 to come out, the first 12 issues in SF 1 were great).

If they kill ANOTHER Flash, someone should be fired. But Johns has written the best stories I've read all year concerning superheroes. He is able to make them both human AND still heroic. he brought back Hal Jordan and did it well(the only resurrection this year that didnt feel forced and unneccessary). AND he gave us the line of the year in IC#1 (you know...THAT line). Kirkman earns marks for Walking Dead. And while Brian K Vaughn is a great writer, I feel Ulti-X wasnt very good and Y:The Last Man feels like it's being drawn out too much.
