I've been thinking of this for almost a year. I know this would be pretty much impossible to make, but for people like me, it would be So fun.
You can play Exhibition matches of course, and you could play Career mode. Virtually every known wrestler, promotion, and promoter etc. would be in the game. (Thats most of the impossible part.) Here is a description of gameplay and Career mode.
Now, you make a CAW, pick his fighting style, attitude, drive to succeed and stuff. Career begins by showing clips of you as a child watching wrestling, wrestling on the trampoline and things like that. You turn 16, and pick a school, and head off to training...
This is where it gets cool. You train. You do drills, take moves etc. There will be a back bump button, which when you press, you take a back bump. There would be a react button. If some one punches you, you can choose to take a back bump, or do a normal reaction. If it is done to early or to late, it will result in a botch. You could put variations on the back bump by pressing additional buttons, and you could take a neck bump and stuff. (This is the same for kicks and other strikes. The reaction and bump would vary according to the strike, to make it look better.)
To take moves, such as a suplex, you would press up-down, to jump and take the move. If done to hard, you would over-rotate, and botch, if done to light or to late or early, you would also botch. To learn how to take new moves with the analog, wrestlers would teach you in training or before the show. To know what moves are going to be performed, it would show up on the top right corner or your screen.
To perform a punch or kick of your own, you would push a certain button (1 for punch and 1 for kick), and you could vary it with the analog or other buttons. If pushed to hard, you would stiff the punch or kick, risking injuring the guy, or getting a stiff of your own. You would have to tap it to hit it just right.
To perform a move or your own, say a suplex, you would have to tell the other wrestler about the move, by hitting those buttons while performing a headlock, or across the ring, or in a stare down etc. Then do it with those buttons. If you or you opponent messes up, you would botch, and risk injury. When the other wrestler is going to a move, he most likely will tell you about it.
You could choreograph the ending and complicated parts with the wrestler before the match. You will learn to put on good match, chain wrestle, and the crowd will respond to how good it is.
In career, you will go through various storylines, challenges, injuries, and hardships. When you get injured in a match, you can choose to continue, or quit, or end early, by a non-distracting scroll pad coming up. You could make it to WWE, have backstage problems, personal problems, make decisions, and do whatever a wrestler does...
I know this would be impossible to make, but how would you guys like it.
