Not to piggyback off of another topic, but whenever someone starts a top ten of a line, I end up considering the worst 10 of said line.
There have been lots of gripes with Marvel Legends, such as hands unable to hold accessories, stiff or strange articulation, bad action features, etc. Here are my personal worst:
10. Movie Daredevil (Marvel Legends 3) = Did we really need a Ben Affleck Daredevil? (I would have much prefered Colin Farrell's Bullseye.) Plus, they use the worst body mold designed for the ML line. What's the biggest travesty is that they used the mold again for a cool character! (See #3) Damn you Ben Affleck, even if the figure wasn't your fault!
9. Thor (Marvel Legends 3) = This figure has always felt wrong to me. He is big and clunky. His arms are too big. His torso is too small. His hands can't hold his hammer. His paint is sloppy and his articulation is really stiff.
8. Apocalypse (Marvel Legends 7) = Apocalypse is not chubby. Why does this figure look chubby? This Apocalypse never looked right, which is probably why the BAF Apocalypse was made. I just wish the sleek and imposing BAF Apocalypse was in scale with regular Marvel Legends, because this stiff jointed chubby En Sabah Nur is lame.
7. Elektra (Marvel Legends 4) = I was so happy we were getting an Elektra. Now I want a new one. He head sculpt is okay. Her back sheaths are cool with twin swords and sais, but useless in terms of it staying on her back or her holding any of those weapons with her damn hands! And her hip joints are horrible. And her rubber loin cloth thing likes to rip the paint off of her ass!
6. Logan (Marvel Legends 11) = I'm using the actual packaged shot because the prototype looked really cool. The body is nice and runty, but the head looks terrible. The rubber clothes look stupid. Thankfully they used the smaller body for Wolverine in series 12.
5. Maestro (Marvel Legends 12) = I remember the older Maestro figure. Limited articulation, but it had a wicked evil sculpt and awesome accessories; trophies of fallen heroes like Captain America's shield, Dr. Strange's cape, and Wolverine's adamantium skeleton adorning his left shoulder! The current one looks more like a wise old gnome king. His body is out of proportion, his sculpt is not menacing, and that crown is not nearly as cool as the former accessories.
4. Cable (Marvel Legends 6) = I am a big Cable fan, so it excited me that we were going to finally get a highly articulated version of Nathaniel Dayspring Askani'son Summers. Then we got this figure. The sculpt is lousy (Jay Leno wants his chin back!), he can't even remotely hold his gun/bike thing. His shoulder armor refuses to stay on. His legs don't move for crap. And everytime I move his arms or legs, tiny pieces of plastic come off. I hope Marvel Select does a Cable because I doubt ML will ever make another.
3. Red Skull (Marvel Legends 5) = Where to start. How about making a highly demanded villain a chase? Or giving that villain a crappy body type with scrawny arms and inferior articulation? Or how about that his hat won't stay on his freakin' head? This figure has angered me so much. I will admit, the faux-Nazi uniform is cool looking. But from there it's all down hill. Thankfully that new Red Skull is coming out.
2. Web Trap Spider-man (Spider-man Classics 14) = There have been a lot of Spider-man figures all but ruined by stupid action figures, but this one angers me the most. We had the chance for Spider-man to have a highly articulated Spider-armor Spider-man (You know, that cool metal armor outfit they invented in the 90's?) Instead we got weird articulation (legs that bend at an angle, one highly articulated arm) and a useless arm designed to shoot a plastic missile web. I was so mad when I saw that. I was really looking forward to that figure.
1. Toad (Marvel Legends 1) = I understand why Toybiz put him in the set. They slated the figure to be in a 2-pack with a large scale Ray Park Toad, but the series was scrapped. But this Toad had no place being in series 1 or Marvel Legends at all. First, series 1 was heavy hitters like Captain America, Iron Man, and Hulk. So where does Magneto's former lackey fit in? Second, his articulation was lousy. Third, he has a damn frog permanently stuck in his hand. Fourth, his base was a repainted base from Spider-man Legends series 1 Man-Spider. The only reason that Toad is in demand now is that nobody wanted him when he came out, then he disappears, and now he is missing from people's collections.
