Just a heads up that this Saturday is the annual free comic book day. www.freecomicbookday.com/Some offerings better than last year, hopefully. I'd really like to see that Runaways/X-Men comic. And after this week's Civil War release and the IC finale, this isnt a bad weekend for this to fall on.

I was minutes away from posting this. I saw a huge banner at a local comic shop.

I actually sort of feel bad for smallish local comic stores on FCBD. They actually have to pay for the books they get, and the owner of my LCS, Trade-a-Tape, told me that he basically just breaks even between what he pays for the free comics (about $300) and what extra business FCBD brings in.

I am looking forward to getting the Beast Wars comic. DC always gives out a crappy kiddie comic.

What exactly is Free Comic Book Day? I am pretty sure it is only once a year, but publisher send out a comic to be given away on the selected day in hopes to get new customers. Anyways, I guess it is sort of like a free sample, only instead of a dixie cup full of food you get a comic book.

The fact that Skottie Young is doing the art is what sold me on it. It's like the comic equivalent of a Gorillaz video.

The only store near me that has it is 40 minutes away... and I can't be bothered to go that far for a free comic book. It'd cost me more in petrol then the average comic.

The way a comic store should look.
I actually found another one about ten minutes from my job at the moment, which saves me around 45 extra minutes driving. They dont have as good a discount, but the $$$ I save from the drive nearly evens out.
I've been thinking about getting an online subscription, but I am unsure how reliable they might be.

Made out pretty good today. My newest place is really small, but its got a larger parent comic store, so I think it helped them get more swag. They had a few tables set up outside and they just let you at it. Got the X-Men/Runaways, Conan, and the Aspen book (I also got an extra X-Men/Runaways if anyone is interested) They also had some heroclix, but the best freebie was the Jack O'Neil Stargate figure. It's prety cool and made even cooler by the fact its free. I saw it advertised on the site, but I have a hunch I was only lucky in getting one because its a small shop. I have no doubt I'd have missed out in a bigger store.

Mine wasn't giving away any figures, but I did manage to pick up X-Men Runaways, and a Transformers comic.

I have a feeling a lot of stores used the figs as contest prizes and stuff because I dont see them getting THAT many out there.
I really like the X-Men book. I'd like to see Skottie Young do a Runaway arc sometime.

Yeah, I saw nothing but comics, including a large stack of Archie comics that looked untouched.

I bought a ton of the Simpsons ones they had (made like 3 full sets) and some random WWF ones, but other than that, Pogs sucked. They were cool until all the random dollar store people started making them, and all the poor kids got them. Poor kids can kill any fad. Fads are only there so the rich kids can taunt the poor kids with something
