Do you remember what happened after the main event of WrestleMania 23? The match was John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels for the WWE Championship. The match finished with Cena retaining the title by submission with the STFU. After the match there seemed to have been some heat between the two wrestlers. My friend did not know this happened, and asked me to post these questions for him. He would like some clarification about this event:
What exactly happened? Who was made at who, and why? Was there a build-up to this happening, or was it random?
Thanks for your answers, and please respond to help inform my friend.
Thanks!

I think Michaels was mad because he had to job. Exactly. That's what I hate about Michaels.

I think Michaels was mad because he had to job. As well he should be.

I think Michaels was mad because he had to job. Michaels willingly jobbed because he did not want the title, and most likely didn't even want to be in the title picture. However, as HHH was injured, he was the most logical choice to put Cena over in the main event. Michaels was a tweener for the feud, Cena the face. This is exemplified by Michaels slapping Cena to begin the match, followed-up by Michaels using one of his "heel moves" in the steel steps piledriver, and, of course, refusing to shake Cena's hand at the match's end.

Because HBK hasn't jobbed to Mr. Kennedy, Randy Orton, Batista, Undertaker, Triple H, Chris Beniot, Umaga, Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon, Edge, John Cena......just to name a few.
Thats quite a few for just 6 years.

It wasn't real per say and there is a lot of theories behind what he said before the match and why he eft after the match

The stigma of HBK not jobbing stems back to, and ends in 1998 after his loss to Steve Austin. After that, seemingly, he was a changed guy, more willing to put younger guys over.

I think Michaels was mad because he had to job. Come on now. Everyone knows that's not true. There is a laundry list of guys Michaels has "jobbed" to since returning.

There's a difference between jobbing and putting over you ing wannabe smarks. Exactly. That is why I had jobbed in quotations in my last post. Jobbing is what Val Venis does on the rare occasion he is brought onto Raw. What guys like Shawn do is putting over talent for the sake of their career.

There's a difference between jobbing and putting over you ing wannabe smarks. This is a wrestling message board consisting of action figure-buying teens. Why you're so riled up over literally nothing confounds me. It really, really does.

Actually I'm not sure that was planned. I know Michaels was sorta ticked on having to job to cena. Maybe he just didn't want too be in the title picture against Cena knowing it wouldn't be match of the year. He did say I have a job to do to cena. I sorta think why does everyone have to job to him.
Eitherway he was upset about something. Does anyone realise he only won 3 matches at PPV's a tagteam win with cena getting the pin. A non clean finish and his match against Kennedy. He is bassically a main eventer who puts everybody over and gives great matches all the time. Quite frankly I consider him a better man when he jobs. He is genuinely concerned for the future and wants big stars.

I wish I could determine whether or not this is sarcasm. But I'll just slunk on out of this topic before matters are made worse.

If you think it was because Shawn had to job, then you are a grade A moron. Shawn Michaels was extremly pissed at John Cena's selling, Cena had his leg I believe worked on through the match, may have been another body part, either way, Cena did not sell it and Shawn was angered, this is all shown on the live edition of Wrestlemania without the editing when Shawn Michaels is legitmately throwing verbal abuse towards John Cena.
Hope that cleared everything up for you and your friend, and everyone else who thought that Shawn was pissed about jobbing, also you people need to really re-consider what jobbing is, god some of you just spew crap out your mouth, or well type it.

I'm sure it was said through various sites that the finish was changed just prior to the match, which could be another reason why Michaels was pissed off. However, the main reason was Cena's poor selling.

Yeah, leading up to it, HBk was gonn awin, having both him and Taker win, but just like an hour before the match, Vince came and changed it, so that Cena would win, which pissed HBk off. You can clearly see Michales' dissapointment when you see, just as the fan is carried awy, the camera goes to him, and he says, "I gotta do the job to Cena", immediatley after, it goes to Cena, who looks pissed after hearing that
