I've been wanting one for some time now and decided maybe I should. Any owners/past owners of gerbils here? I just wanna know if they're hard to take care of.. I mean not like money wise but cleaning and all that. Does anyone here know if they poo a lot like guinea pigs?
Thanks people. ;D

Just make sure you dont buy a bunch of gerbils, or one day you'll wake up to eaten rodent in your cage.

If you want one, get one. If you don't, don't. You've got to clean out the cage about once a week. Kind of a pain I think. I always found fish much easier to take care of and less smelly too.

If you don't really see a need for one don't even bother. It's more work for you and more money consuming. Trust me I have 4 guinea pigs and they cost an extra 15 bucks a week and an extra 15 minutes a day.

If you're lazy and you won't like cleaning out the cage then don't bother getting any. If you really want one, then get one. It's up to you in the end.

I some when I was little, they arent too bad to care for, just like hamster, they can bite and it will hurt. Ive moved on to cooler pets such as snakes. But I wish I still had my gerbils, RIP Batman and Jelly.

go for a hamster. clean the cage like once every 1 to 1 1/2 weeks. fun to play with even though they are nocturnal (sleep in the day, active at night). But they live better alone instead of groups. I use to have them. Fun little guys.

I hate rodents so I say no...
But if you like them then maybe...
Just know this... Never get hamsters... At least not more than one, one will kill and eat the other.

Just don't lend your gerbil to Richard Gere. You won't want him back afterwards.

I would never but a pet that has to live in a cage, doesnt wasnt to live with you, and will never show affection towards you.
Edit** Except for maybe a snake or turtle.
