Would you consider wrestling a sport. I mean. this is gonna be odd, but i was thinking, if ballroom dancing, figure skating and the like are to be considered sports then why not wrestling? All three of those are the same basic principle. Maintain the required level of fitness and stamina, choreograph your performance to a T and impress the audience.
I know what you're thinking:
But if the competition (as it is) is an act, then so is the outcome. if dancers are dancing a tango that ends when the woman slaps the man accross the face, no-one thinks the woman has actually somehow beaten the man. They have provided a performance, and they will be judged equally by the crowd and the judges.
Your thoughts?

No, I do not consider it a sport.
It's entertainment. If the WWE got more serious with the wrestling aspect of their show, then I would consider calling it a sport.

But every wrestling promotion survives and works on the same principle. WWE have wrestling matches that are pre-determined, as do ROH. However, ROH's sports are just that... pre-determined. I find it silly that you could say that one wrestling promotion would be a sport, and another wouldn't. WWE have a larger global fan base, therefore have to be much more flexible than small promotions like ROH, and have to cater to a much wider fan base.

It's Sports Entertainment and nothing more, I don't care what fed it is whether it's the WWE or ROH, wrestling is fake and predetermined but it does take strength and skill so in a way it is a sport but it's mainly entertainment.

No, it's pretty much an athletic tv show. To me a sport is real competition.

I dont consider the crap WWE puts on a sport. That is purely entertainment. The only difference between that and a Shakespearian play is more bumps. The old NWA, IWGP and AJPW I would consider more of a sport but still not fully 100% a sport

I consider it Sports-Entertainment. The wrestlers are athletes and the combat takes a toll on their body sometimes, which makes it a sport. It is entertainment because the winner is pre-dertermined and there is gimmicks and most of it is about showmanship.

Yes, and no.
In the repect that the athletes need to be very phisically fit and athletic, in a way.
And no, that it is not an actually physically competitive sport.

Somebody here has a sig that sums it up perfectly:
In Canada it's a tradition In Mexico it's a religion In Japan it's a sport In America it's a joke

It's not a sport. The outcomes are predetermined, therefor it can't truly be a sport. That does not, however mean that the guys have to be in great shape, very skilled and honestly take more damage than any guys in any other "sport."

I understand your point but IMO, the outcomes are predetermined, but the wrestlers still have to play their cards right to be great at the sport. Its not like they just pick some random guy and make him champ. They have to earn their spot and respect to win a title, and in most cases they have to be physically fit, so IMO i consider it a sport, but i understand why others might not think the same.
