UPDATE ON 2008 NWA HALL OF FAME CEREMONY
From Robert K. Trobich
Ric Flair, part of the 2008 NWA Hall of Fame class, will unfortunately not be present to receive this honor on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Philips Arena in Atlanta, GA. World Wrestling Entertainment, which has a contractual relationship with Flair, will not permit Flair to attend the ceremony. "I am deeply sorry that Ric will not be in Atlanta for the Hall of Fame ceremony", said NWA Executive Director Robert K. Trobich. "Ric was very honored to be recognized by the NWA and wanted to be in Atlanta to thank his fans. Unfortunately, the WWE refused to allow him to be there. It is truly a sad action on their part, as the main people injured by the WWE's seeming petulance is the wrestling fans. Nonetheless, Ric Flair was a legend in the NWA long before the WWE was anything other than a regional promotion in the northeast. As such, Ric will still be a member of the 2008 class. He has earned that honor, and we intend to bestow it upon him", said Trobich.
The 2008 NWA Hall of Fame will commence on Saturday June 7, 2008 at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, GA. Tickets for this event are on sale at ticketmaster.com or the Philips Arena box office.

Why? there is no need for the WWE to not allow Flair attend the event(Even though he's still under contract). It's not that he even wrestles anymore(obviously).

The thing is Flair wasn't going to wrestle. Flair was just coming to accept the award and most likely leave. What's wrong with that? NWA isn't competing with WWE or anything. In all honestly, NWA was losing money on this event UNTIL Flair was annouced for the show.

Wow, how pathetic that is.
Flair deserves it, so they should at least let him go.
Flair should still go imo, and just not have it be known. if he breaches his contract, why will he care, he dosnt wrestle anymore, and im sure he has enough money from over the years

Whoever in the WWE Said he can't go, them. I totally agree. A huge disgrace Flair wouldn't even be Flair if it wasn't for them.

Meh, most fans nowadays won't remember Flair from the NWA anyway. They think of him as a WWE (or WCW) guy

Eh, WWE has the right to do that. Sucky? Yeah. Smart business decision to have Flair's only Hall of Fame induction speech be for the WWE? Absolutely.
It's pretty much all about namesame and bragging rights. WWE can now still say that Ric Flair's only Hall of Fame induction speech was for the WWE.

They had obviously planned his retirement months in advance...why keep him under contract after he retired?

What a bunch of bastards...It's a total dick move on WWE's part not to let him go to this event. Flair should still go in spite of WWE. He was in NWA long before WWE.

Flair has a contract with Vince so in the end Vince gets final say over what Flair does. I see no problem with that.

The thing is.. he couldn't give Flair that one night to say "Thanks" to the fans in Atlanta and leave? It's that simple but whatever.

Why would Vince want someone else to make money off of Flair's retirement. The NWA wanted him there to make money not to say thanks to anyone. Vince just won't allow that.

and im sure he has enough money from over the years ... Honestly, I've probably got more money. But yeah, it may seem like a load of crap to you guys, but Flair's getting paid by WWE, WWE don't want him to be there then thats the way it goes. Its like working for a shop and when you've been working there you tell them that you're gonna work in there rivals store because you'd like an extra few $.
