I'm going to round 2 of the draft tomorrow morning. There's a fan event taking place where you can get your picture taken with the Stanley Cup! Might be the closest anyone in Ottawa comes to it

There are reports that Malkin might even be moved at the Draft today, which it's just insanity.

Well it depends on that Malkin deal. If he doesnt resign by July 1st they should trade him so they get something for him. But the bigger picture your right, it is insanity to trade one of your best players

Dan Ellis has agreed to a two-year/$3.5 million contract extension with the Nashville Predators. Ellis will earn $1.5 next season and $2 million in 2009-10. Just a few days ago it sounded like Ellis and Nashville weren't making much headway but everything seems to have fallen into place for Nashville. The Predators were able to re-sign their star goaltender while pulling the trigger on a deal to get netminder Chris Mason off the roster on Friday. Ellis was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.
Dan Cloutier has been placed on waivers by the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings are expected to buy Cloutier's contract out if no one claims him off waivers. Cloutier had a terrible 2007-08 season with a 3.43 GAA and .887 save percentage in nine NHL games.
The Ottawa Senators have placed Ray Emery on waivers.
Reports have surfaced that the revamped pro league in Russia may make an outlandish offer to Evgeni Malkin. The report says that a few Russian teams may offer as much as $12.5 million US per season to return to his homeland. It would be tax free, which would be equivalent to earning $15 million per season in the NHL. Alexander Ovechkin is currently the highest paid player at $9.6 million. If this were to happen, it would devastate many fantasy owners in keeper leagues who are counting on Malkin's continued growth next season. Stay tuned.
The St. Louis Blues have acquired Chris Mason from the Nashville Predators. As a testament to how much Mason's value has plummeted over the last season, Nashville only got a fourth round draft pick in return for Mason. Entering the 2007-08 season with high expectations, Mason was a huge disappointment with a 2.90 GAA and .898 save percentage in 51 games. With Mason out of the way, their goaltending logjam has been solved. Dan Ellis will likely begin the season as the Predators starting goalie and Pekka Rinne, who was out of minor-league options, will serve as Nashville's backup goaltender.
Vincent Lecavalier is reportedly close to signing a lifelong deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Lecavalier is entering the final year of his contract that will pay him $7.167 million. It could be a Mike Richards/Rick DiPietro/Alexander Ovechkin type term. Stay tuned for a mind boggling number.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have granted Montreal permission to talk to Mats Sundin's agent. Sundin still hasn't even ruled out retiring so this may all be for nothing. Toronto is reportedly trying to encourage Sundin to make a decision regarding his future in the NHL before July 1st. If Montreal and Sundin manage to work something out, the Canadiens would still have to wait until July 1st to sign Sundin or acquire the negotiating rights from Toronto in a trade. Montreal was close to acquiring Sundin at the trade deadline, but Sundin refused to waive his no-trade clause.
Rumors are swirling in Ottawa that the Vancouver Canucks are trying to trade the Sedin twins. The NHL Entry Draft is being held in Ottawa and all GM's are there, causing many rumors. Of course the Canucks are denying the rumors. "We are not actively shopping our two highest-scoring players," GM Mike Gillis said. "The Sedins, people have called me about them. We are not actively trying to trade the Sedins in any form. A lot of teams have been calling but we're hoping to sign them long term and keep them in Vancouver. We're not initiating a whole lot at this point, but we're listening to a lot of different things." We shall see.
The San Jose Sharks are saying that a Thursday blog on the OttawaSun.com stating that Brian Campbell told the team that he will not return to San Jose next season, is erroneous. GM Doug Wilson said that the two sides met on Thursday and will meet again on Friday in an attempt to hammer out a deal. Stay tuned because if Campbell does sign in San Jose, other moves, such as a Patrick Marleau trade, may be needed for salary cap reasons.
The Star-Tribune is reporting that multiple NHL sources are saying that the Florida Panthers and Minnesota Wild are in the midst of trade talks regarding Olli Jokinen. It certainly appears that Jokinen is not going to be a Florida Panther for much longer as his name is coming up in a lot of trade rumors, especially with Western Conference teams. Jokinen is a top-ten center in the NHL and would greatly increase the fantasy value for any player on his line.
It does not appear that the Columbus Blue Jackets will trade the sixth overall pick in Friday's Entry Draft in exchange for Patrick Marleau. The Blue Jackets would love a top-notch center for Rick Nash and Marleau's name has been at the front of the list, but the Blue Jackets think that the sixth pick is too high. Marleau still could be moved at a later date.

Glen Sather reportedly will not be signing any of the Rangers' pending free agents to extensions before the UFA market opens on July 1st, and will let Avery, Jagr, Shanny, Straka, Rozsival, etc. test the market and risk losing them. Rumors are that the Rangers will aggresively try and sign Redden and Campbell and maybe Darcy Tucker to replace Avery. Ladies and gentleman, the worst GM in all of sports: Tomato Face.

I hope the Sedins stay in Vancouver. And Vancouver gets some good players to make a run at the Cup, hell even get Marleau

Bruins need a Redden/Campbell type move if they cant sign Hossa I don't think they do, really. Their defense is fine...their biggest problem is between their forwards and inconsistency with their goalie(s).

R. J. Umberger to the Blue Jackets.
Kind of sucks. He wasn't a huge critical guy in the Flyers lineup, But he was still good.

God damn it! Why did we get rid of Umberger for a ing draft pick?! How do you give up your best player during the playoffs for two draft picks? Really, younger guys are going to help us, but RJ was fantastic during the playoffs and could be a rising star in years to come.

The Montreal Canadiens have been granted permission by the Maple Leafs to speak to Sundin's agent J.P. Barry about the possibility of the 37-year-old centre signing in Montreal.
The Flames acquired forward Mike Cammalleri from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for the 17th overall pick in this year's draft. That deal was a three-way trade that saw LA deal the 17th selection and its 28th pick to Anaheim for the Ducks 12th overall pick in this year's draft.
Calgary also dealt forward Alex Tanguay to Montreal for the Canadiens 25th pick.
