Just wanted to let you know i've heard a lot of other reports and rumors on other boards that the UFC and Jakks deal wasen't the big announcment that Dana was talking about. They say the big announcment is coming Thurday. But take this with a grain of sault because i don't know if it's true or not, but i guess we'll find out shortly.

Well, when Dana White was on CNBC talking about the Jakks deal, he denied that the big announcement was:
-- The figure deal --Anything involving Floyd Mayweather --Anything involving WWE --A TV deal with Fox, ESPN, or another major network
Which, to me, kills basically all of the biggest rumors we've seen. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

According to Fightline.com, the announcement has been moved to next Tuesday.
Dave Meltzer of the wrestling observer is reporting that Dana White's big announcement has been pushed back from this Thursday to next Tuesday. No reason was given for the delay, but the way this thing has drawn out the UFC had better deliver something substantial.
Rumors behind the substance of the announcement are swirling around the internet and include the following:
1. An MMA fight deal between the UFC and recently retired boxing great Floyd Mayweather Jr.
2. Vince McMahon and Dana White will be buying the UFC from the Fertitta brothers with White running the day to day operation and McMahon financing the deal.
3. The UFC will sign a major network deal.
4. MMA will finally be sanctioned in New York.
5. Anderson Silva will be moving up to light heavyweight.
6. The UFC is going international and will unveil plans to hold events around the globe.

#1, don't hold your breath on it. I highly doubt this would happen. #2 will likely never happen in a million years and I always get extremely pissed that it's brought up whenever a major deal is considered. I hate this rumor because it sounds more like a conspiracy theory and it falls apart so much when closely examined that it's sad. #3 may be likely, and I think that would be a logical step. Even if it's on the B-Networks or even the C-Network MNTV, I think a network show would really help UFC. Even if it's just another program ala "UFC Wired" or repeats of Fight Night and TUF episodes, this would be a step in the right direction. I would be overjoyed if #4 were to happen. New York has always been that one big market that MMA cannot capitalize on. Times have changed and the ban on MMA in NY is simply archaic. Of the 6 "rumors" floating around, I find this the most possible. #5 doesn't smack of "huge announcement", but I guess I would be overjoyed. Anderson Silva is my #1 favorite, and I can't talk enough about how much he kicks ass. It'd be a shame for him to not pass the torch, but I'll never forget his reign of dominance. Anderson Silva legit feels like an MMA Superstar that shows respect to his fighters and the fans no matter if there's an arena filled with people that boo him and want to see him get knocked out. I truly believe that Anderson loves MMA and is a credit to the sport. I'd support him 110% if he chose to make this decision. #6 has a slight "been there, done that" feel to it. UFC has and continues to promote events around the globe. If they open up even more international markets, however, I think that would be a very positive step forward.

I'm praying it's an announcement about getting a license in NY. And then I'm hoping they do a show at the Turning Stone Casino...seeing as I live about 25 minutes from it.

Well, it's said that this announcement will define the state of MMA for the next 5 years, so it's not a fight announcement or a fighter. Whatever it is, I don't see how it can possibly live up to the hype of speculation that people have been doing the last week.

Bringing MMA to NY would be great... there is a pretty big fan base for it here already... we just haven't been able to have the events.

If MMA being sanctioned in NY is the announcement, I have a feeling that some people may not grasp the significance of it and deride Dana for getting their hopes up.
Seriously, MMA could do huge business in NY. The NY ban on MMA was in the supposed "dark ages" where many people used the buzzword "human cockfighting" to describe the sport.
For better or worse, MMA has evolved at an astonishing rate and is barely recognizable from the sport that NY banned.
Although there's the financial incentive because NY is a lucrative market and would probably sell out quick, there's also a very figurative but also very important victory if the ban gets overturned.
Although it'll probably be the UFC that'll chiefly benefit due to them being able to sell out the huge arenas, MMA in general will go one step further into being accepted into the mainstream and viewed as a legitimate sport. And that's always important.

I'm sur[rrised I just figured (spot the pun there) that the Jakks annopuncement was it.
I can't see Vince involved with UFC, his rep would harm the UFC's credibility & the public associate him with wrestling. I can't imagine with the hype that it's the signing of any fighter, even if they had stolen Fedor from Affliction.
I'm thinking NY is the m0ost likely or they have got through a rule change allowing knees to stop giving wrestlers in the Octagon such an advantage.

I got more on the Dana White Announcment.
Again Dana's words were: “There’s something no one else has heard. You have no idea some of the stuff that we have planned. I’m going to make an announcement next week that is going to blow people’s minds. That deal is done, but my employees don’t even know yet. I’m renting out a place next Thursday and I’m going to tell them. Then we’ll make the announcement later that day. It’s an indicator of where this business is going over the next five years.”

Last week, UFC President Dana White promised a major announcement that would serve as an “indicator of where this business is going over the next five years” would be forthcoming this Thursday, June 12. Rumors and speculation have gripped the online mixed martial arts community, which even spilled over on a CNBC “Power Lunch” segment yesterday afternoon. White was on the program to detail a significant licensing and merchandising deal for the promotion, but was asked about several other possibilities regarding the “major” announcement that was on the horizon. Even CNBC realizes that fans want to know what blockbuster news is going on behind the scenes. And instead of finding out tomorrow, Dave Meltzer of WrestlingObserver.com is reporting that we will have to wait a little bit longer. Here’s the snip: “The announcement today of the UFC action figures deal with Jakks is not the big announcement that has been teased all week. According to the UFC, that announcement will be made a week from today, and not on Thursday.” White debunked several of the popular possibilities, including going public, boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. coming on board, a partnership with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and a network television deal, leaving most of those interested scratching their heads about what on Earth is going to be revealed. It could all be a smokescreen or he could actually have an airtight surprise. He mentioned that he intended to make an announcement to his employees tomorrow, but there’s no telling if he still plans to do that now that the announcement date has been pushed back. Whatever it is it better be good because he has whipped everyone into such a furor that anything short of spectacular or completely out of left field just won’t deliver on the expectations. Even if he’s able to do that it still might fall short … he’s set the bar higher than normal on this one.

I think it might be UFC holding events all over the world AND it being sanctioned in New York City.
