Why exactly did this legend have a career in wwf with no championships? Not even the IC? Maybe cause his drug problems?

To quote Jake in one of his shoots, he never held a title because he didn't need one. He claims he was over enough with just the snake, he says you only need to put titles on people to get them over.
I have a question though did Jake ever have a title shot of any kind between 85 - 92?

^ No, Jake never officially had the Million Dollar Belt. He stole it from DiBiase at one point and then DiBiase got it back I believe at WrestleMania VI in Toronto. There were only 3 Million Dollar champions of record. Ted DiBiase, Virgil and The Ringmaster/Steve Austin.
But yeah, on topic, I'd agree that Jake was over enough not to have a title either. He was very much like "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, only Piper won a few titles. Although, I would have liked to see him win the Intercontinental belt.

I thought he had a title? I'm pretty sure he had the WWF Title.. Jake Roberts? ? He was definitely never the WWF Heavyweight Champion..... It would have been awesome if he had won the IC Title from someone like Rick Rude or Honky Tonk Man....Even if it had been a short title run, he definitely was deserving of one.....

He sorta went for the WWF title at WM4...Though he drew with Rick Rude in the opening round.

He was more like a filler there, kinda like the 26 other guys in Royal Rumble 1992, only 3 or 4 guys (Hogan, Savage, Sid, Piper) had a realistic chance of winning the Rumble outside of Ric Flair and becoming the champ.

Jake Roberts was and is one of my all time favourites. Like everyone else says he never needed gold to get over, but i must say i would of loved to see a main event at wrestlemania between Jake Roberts and Hulk Hogan.

I never liked Jake's ring work, but I have to say that I think he was solid gold on the mic. One of the best promo men in the business. No one could cut a promo like Jake Roberts in my opinion.

I thought Piper was as good as Jake on the stick, but in a completely different way.

He wasn't what I would call a great worker but similar to say Dusty Rhodes he understood what to do & when to do it to make you believe it was a much better match than it actually was. But on the Mic he was incredible. I agree he never needed a belt as he was over. How many other wrestlers have been able to get over to the level of Jake without holding a strap in a big promition? No one obvious jumps to mind, any ideas??
