Yeah, I got the call a few weeks ago to be the guest speaker at my high schools graduation ceremony. Every year they bring back a former student to speak to the graduating class and this year I was selected.
I find it to be a true honor that they selected me, I went out and bought all sorts of dressy clothes for the ceremony and such and I am quite excited.
Any of you ever been selected to do something along these lines?

Congratulations! No, I've never been chosen for something like that, but I DID get a 100% on a speech in speech class about pro-wrestling. Good luck tommorow, don't choke  |

I think you should give it to them straight and not fill their heads with idealistic bullshit. Just my opinion.

People know better than to ask me to speak because the speech will quickly turn into an Andrew "Dice" Clay type of performance. So I have not been asked to speak anywhere since what my family refers to as "The Event" at my brothers wedding when I gave the best man speech and let's just say I got quite graphic about what was going to happen on the wedding night. I thought it would come off funny and a few of the teenagers at the wedding did laugh but my father ended up taking the microphone from me and telling me to sit down and I have not been a best man or asked to speak since. The worst part is the people that were hired to videotape the wedding cut out my entire speech and so there is no record of it except for the memories of the people that were there that night.
My brother dared me to be raunchy but I did not know he was kidding. He has not dared me to do anything since.

Thats a really cool thing to be asked to do, I'd be honored.
I recently spoke at my baccalaureate ceremony and at class night. I thrive on stuff like that, so it was no big deal for me, but I absolutely loved doing it.
I was told that my speech at baccalaureate was the best that my high school has ever had, which was quite a humbling experience for me. It was nice to go out with a bang on a positive note.
