The recently released Ring of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit and the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry book alleges that when Carlito was starting out in WWE, Vince McMahon made a racial remark towards him. It comes off somewhat similar to the Michael Hayes-Mark Henry situation in that quite like Hayes, McMahon likely didn't mean any harm by his comment, but it's still not something that should be said. Here is the passage from the book regarding this incident with former WWE writer/See No Evil screenwriter Dan Madigan telling the story: "I remember when I was working with Carlito [Puerto Rican wrestler Carlos Colon] when he just started. Vince wanted to talk to him to get to know him, and I was asked to attend the meeting to help work out a character. So we're there, Carlito's talking to him, just a normal conversation; Carlito comes from a normal background, has money. He speaks well. Vince interrupts Carlito mid-sentence and says to him, 'Hey, can you spic it up some? Y'know spic it up when you talk?' I look at Vince, this billionaire who just asked some Puerto Rican employee to 'spic it up' right to his face, and I just look at Carlito and say, 'Yeah, spic it up' like it was a joke," says Madigan, laughing. "Vince's image of a Puerto Rican was a Puerto Rican pimp. How out of touch do you have to be to not realize you could get in trouble for that?" www.pwmania.com

the wwe is out of touch with a lot of things though. = Cryme Tyme saying 'euros, euros, yeah, yeah' when in England, which doesn't use the Euro as it's currency

That book is soo full of Bull **** I can't even start... Vince on cocaine? Really? Now he is racist?Meh...sadly that is not a stretch of the imagination. I was reading an article in a magazine..PWI if I am correct and they were interviewing Orlando Jordan. Just a little snip bit, but it was brought up that Mr. McMahon created a few gimmicks and the ones for his black talent especially were very degrading in one way or another. For starters, look at the storyline they were going to use for OJ right before he left. Just because he is bi in real life, that should not be grounds to make him some Rico like character. And Cryme Tyme...sterotypical much? Then look at the championships. Name some black/partial black world champions over the last 3 years. Bobby Lashley and King Booker. And to be even more picky, lets go into the minor titles. US: Lashley, Orlando Jordan, Booker T, MVP IC: Shelton RAW Tag: Rosey, Booker SD Tag: D-Von, MVP Cruiser: Jacqueline 9 people (11 if you count Rikishi and Umaga). Still, not a lot.

Why would you count Rikishi, Rosey, and Umaga? They're Samoan, not black. Nothing against either, but there is a difference.
I don't buy this books stories, it seems like all crap to sell a book about "Benoit and the Fall of Pro Wrestling". What the guy didn't know enough about either to write two books?

Yeah, like Benoit was the sole[/b] reason of the fall of pro wrestling, when it's programs are number one on their TV stations.

I definitely think Vince is out of touch when it comes to certain stereotypes and gimmicks, but he's Vince and I'm sure he isn't a racist, just probably being offensive without knowing it.
As for the cocaine story, everyone knows that wrestlers of the past were constantly on something, be it pills or other drugs, so why wouldn't McMahon be? Have you seen the kind of energy this guy used to have calling weekly Raws and PPV events each week/month back in the day? Besides, Hogan got him on steroids so I'm pretty sure Vince isn't the most innocent or naive person to what's going on, or being taken, in the locker rooms.

Yeah, it's not that hard to believe, if you read anything other than the title.

i don't think asking him to "spic it up" is an unreasonable request. it's not like vince walked in, saw carlito, and was like "hey you dirty spic, talk more like a filthy mexican".....and regardless of whether this is even true or not it could be taken way out of context to make it sound worse for this book.

That book is soo full of Bull **** I can't even start... Vince on cocaine? Really? Now he is racist? How the do you know what is and isn't bullcrap? Because it screws with your preconcieved image of a sharp corners padded, family friendly Vince McMahon? The way he uses most of his foreign/non-white talent and the gimmicks they're given I wouldn't put it past him.

If you're going back to Jacqueline, then what about, y'know... The Rock? If McMahon was a racist, do you think the company would have given The Rock another chance after his complete and utter failure as a white meat babyface when he first came in as Rocky Maivia? Do you guys not remember the "Die, Rocky, Die!" chants? Also, judging from the list you posted, you're saying that practically every minority in the company has held a title. Oooooh... Racist! ing spare me.
