I'm sitting here watching 24/7 & he is announcing on one of the old WWF shows. I remember really enjoying him during his WWF run, but not as much during the WCW days. Thoughts?

I always liked Shiavoni. The only thing that bothered me about WCW announcing during their heydey was that they would just talk about nWO during matches all night, but that wasn't Tony's fault, it was just that's what the announcers were told to do.

I was watching some old Nitros and just thought about how I miss the guy. I heard him doing a sports show on the radio in Atlanta like a couple of months ago when I was there. He didn't really bother me like he does most people on the board. I really would rather him be doing TNA than anyone (except Joey Styles by himself).

I always thought Schiavone was a good announcer. The team of Schiavone, Heenan, and Dusty is one of my favorite announce teams. He did get worse near the end of WCW. I think you could pinpoint when Mike Tenay was added to the announce team as to when he started going down.
Tenay was basically doing the same job as Schiavone, and you don't need two people trying to do the same job. He was obviously insecure about that. Plus, his relationship with Bobby Heenan became more strained as time went on.
The more insecure he became, the more difficult it seemed he was to work with. I remember on a Nitro in mid-1998 where he and Larry Zbyszko had an argument and Larry walked off the set during the commercial and Bischoff had to come out and make peace between them during the break.
According to Heenan's book, he felt that Schiavone betrayed him by helping Mark Madden take his spot. Russo and Schiavone became tight and Russo never was a Heenan fan. I can remember him bashing Heenan as a manager in an article in the WWF Magazine. Madden was possibly the most annoying announcer of all time. Scott Hudson was then added to the third spot. That announce team ranks up there with Lawler/Styles/Coach as one of the worst teams.
Anyways, I really thought it was a shame WWE never brought him in to atleast feud with Jim Ross, since the two never have gotten along too well. I thought it was kind of funny watching the new Flair DVD and realizing that his voice was heard more on it than most of the people that were talking about him, but he wasn't recognized one time.

He should write an inspirational book titled "Today is the Greatest Day in the History of Your Life (and Tomorrow Will Be, Too)!"

No, I hated him. Still laughing at him now when he told the Nitro viewers that Foley won the WWF Title and everyone tuned into Raw instead LOL!

I never really liked him as a commentator. I found him to be annoying. Matter of fact, mostly all of WCW's commentators sucked with the exception of Jesse "The Body" Ventura, Bobby "The Brain" Heenan and Jim Ross. The rest like Zbyszko, Madden, Mongo, all sucked. Big time.

yeah i always liked him and would love to see his CS figure, he's in my top 10 most wanted.
unfortuntely WWF/Vince seems to hate Schiavone and a lot of loyal WWE fanboys buy into that too.

He was alright. He had his annoying moments. But overall he was good when he wasn't talking about the nWo and saying that damn line all the time. You know you overused it when people who haven't seen you in 10 years and they hear your name and instantly think "This is the greatest night in the history of our sport."
