Does anybody remember Game Overs from older games? These days it seems like I see them a lot less, but before I used to see them all the time. One Game Over screen that really creeped me out as a child... I actually still can't get over it. Watching it on a small, dialed TV in a dark room before bed always creeped the out of me.

Yeah it seems pretty rare now a days but it was standard to have. I admit that DK game over screen always bugged me. Iono it just seems messed up.
I always loved the Metal Gear game over screens. Those are about the only ones that stand in my head. I used to love how during the screens a lot of games would play a messed up tune or odd sounding music which used to really make me even madder for loosing lol. I remember playing games with friends and when one of us got a game over screen with music that just seems to mock you, you wouldnt hear the end of it.

the original donkey kong for nes' loop music drove me nuts at game over, it sounded very 'matter of factly', as if the game was mocking you.

We don't see as many literal "game over" screens anymore due to the heavy focus on realism. Developers, and a mass majority of gamers thrive on realism and rather forget that they're simply playing a game. I think video games have shifted more toward a cinematic experience than actually resembling a game.

I don't remember the game, But the Game Over screen was a picture of the player kneeling before hell.
Also the Game Over screen for the Silver Surfer game was ASS.

I never really took a 2nd look at the DK game over screen. It isn't as bad though as Jason's.

I always thought the sound it made when you died in the original Ninja Gaiden was freaky and cold. For some reason, that game really ing disturbed me as a kid.

Dark Sector has one but it say s" You are dead, in bloody red letters I never saw the purpose of putting that in games. Like in Resident Evil it says You Are Dead when you die. It's pointless, you obvilously now that your dead if your head just got blown off or something like that. I think they put it there just to piss the gamer off.
