Around 4:35 onwards, they show that 'lightning strike' that has been done a fair amount of times for Kane and Undertaker... doesn anyone actually know how they do it?

I always thought that it was just some type of pyro.

its not computer generated. the lighting for the arena would be to hard to do for a live ppv/raw stream.

I remember hearing about a time when Taker used lightning, and the live audience saw nothing, but you could see it on the TV broadcast, so at least in some cases, it's computer generated.

Yeah, i always thought it was computer generated (in recent times anyway), it never looks real enough to be done in the arena, although i could be wrong.

I've seen the lightening in person once before during a SmackDown involving Undertaker. I've always thought it was a wire or cord coming down from the rafters, very thin and invisible, but I didn't see anything, so it's hard for me to say. I have a feeling it's wire, and the lightening is just a type of pyro that shoots down.

Id say it has to be computer generated rite? I mean theres no other way of it going from his finger to another object. From the ceiling to the floor perhaps some form of lightning. But in that sense with Kane using it I dont think it can be gernerated in real life thru pyro etc

The lightning itself is computer generated. All the live audience sees is the burst of pyro that occurs because of it. There's been countless times where Smackdown spoilers have mentioned that something "suddenly burst into flames" or "pyro suddenly went off" where a lightning effect was later added for the broadcast.

all it is is a pyro going off and then when we watch it @ home, we see the lightning, whereas the people in the arena just see the pyro

i was at a sd when they use lightning. they have pyro attached to whatever it is and they use special effects for the tv audience. basically theres is a bomb that goes off no lighting when u are there live.

The lightning is computer generated. I have been at a few shows that had this "lightning" and all the live audience sees is the pyro that follows.

When they are doing it on the stage, I'm pretty sure they just shoot a pyro off. Much like the Dudley Boyz' old opening pyro, except faster. You have to remember, all of WWE's pyro is silent. They use "concussions" to generate the noise. I'm pretty sure WWE magazine did an interview with their pyro guy before and he explained it. Here's a video, but he doesnt talk about the lightning in it

Probably something along with sensors that TV Cameras can pick up - Remember the NHL had the puck equipped with a chip to show it on tv?
I was at Smackdown when the case the title was in exploded...I saw the guy rubbing something on the post and the case..
Probably a few sensors around the stage to make it look like it's not straight up and down.
