TO start this off, I play basketball outside in my backyard an hour or two a day. I play ok and all, but the one thing I can't do is dunk the ball. I'm 5'9 and I can barely reach the rim of my court. I really want to jump higher so i can dunk the ball. So, can you guys recommend me any good exercises I can do to help increase my ability to jump higher? I've googled it, but all I get are those expensive programs that teach you by ordering their system. Any help is appreciated.

Wear flip flops (not thongs) and run around in those before the game and during the day. It will make you jump a little higher.

Ask a surgeon to shorten your calf muscles. Theoretically, it could increase your jumping ability.

Ask a surgeon to shorten your calf muscles. Theoretically, it could increase your jumping ability. "But if it works, I could be the best in the world." "I want the other doctor back."

The best thing is to work your leg and calf muscles. You can do alot of different exercises involving your legs. Or you can just get ankle weights and walk/run in them alot.

Keep practicing, you only need to be able to be off the ground a 2feet. @ 5'9, + 3'0 (arm length)= 8'9 + 2'0= 10'3 regulations 10' so yeah

i trained long and hard to be able to jump and dunk back when i was in high school. it takes a lot of leg strenght training but don't overdue it and rip or pull a muscle. your calfs are ok to train every other day since they're small muscles. do lots of stretching before during and most importantly after workouts. your thighs, quads, and back are also just as important. do lunges and hack squats too. obviously do more reps as you get stronger

Yep. I've also heard (though I have no experience) that wearing ankle weights around can be helpful.
