Anyone else really digging how the new Super Smash Brothers sound?
CHIKARA presents "All That Glitters"
Live from the VersaWare Crockpot Stadium in Reading, PA
Saturday, August 9, 2008
Preshow Notes: R-Phils can screw off big time. Parking is the worst already and there's no one here. Absolutely insane. Things are starting a bit later than usual, hopefully not too bad. Since people will ask, it's the normal ring dropped down low to accomidate the ceiling. Maybe six inches taller than the pony ring. Attendance is officially a sellout of 200.
Louden is in the ring performing the Podcast-a-Go-Go Song. This is a song all about how you can learn the scoops of Chikara on the podcast. Should've been THE CHIKARAFANS SONG. Louden, I know you read this. Hook us up.
1. The Osirian Portal vs Super Smash Bros. Stupefied is now Player Dos! A certain member of this forum will be suing for gimmick infringement. Fun stuff early on with tons of back and forth, which topped off when we learned that Player Dos in fact has a working NES on his gear that he can use to plug in carts and use things from the game. "Karate Kid: The Game" gave us some awesome KK inspired spots. Some INSANE offense all over this. In probably the best opener of the year, Smash Bros. rack up their first point with a tandem piledriver on Amasks for the win. Ridiculous.
Vin Gerard promo. Calls Shane Storm out as the one man that no one wants to talk to. Vin reminds him that his last big wins? Three years ago. Year and a half ago. Storm's the reason Equinox is gone so Vin thanks him. Long story short, Vin wants Storm to stickwith him because Vin can take him to what he wants. Then when leaving, Vin suggests it's time to lose the mask.
2. Brodie Lee vs Ultimo Breakfast. Surprisingly competitive, Breakfast got in some really good offense, but it wasn't enough to avoid the boot. Quick and over easy (lolz).
3. Jimmy Olsen vs Fire Ant. Jimmy wastes no time with a Thesz Press to go for the mask, but Fire Ant fends him off. These two beat the tar out of each other on the floor. An awesome back and forth match until Jimmy strips Fire Ant of his mask for the DQ win.
4. Shane Storm vs Mike Quackenbush. Round two of this war is on! Quack with some disgusting chops until Shane Storm targets Quack's injured knee big time. Quack manages to ignore the pain and keep bringing the pain with a DISGUSTING Jig n Tonic on the floor. While Sabato was counting Stormer out, Vin Gerard attacked Quack, allowing Storm to crawl in at 19 and get the pin.
Intermission.
5. Lince and Las Chivas vs Team FIST. Fun comedy spots abound, but just...very odd all around. Chiva Skinny (no numbers to identify) is getting knocked silly out there, with a horn even getting knocked off in the process. Lince got very little time in the ring, making me quite happy. Chuck Taylor pins Chiva with the Omega Driver. Picked up at the end, good stuff.
6. Claudio Castagnoli vs Buck Hawke. Claudio comes out strong with the Big Swing right away (23 spins!), but Buck continuously tried to cut him off with a weapon of sorts. Buck gets the quick win after bridging out a Ricola Bomb reversal and getting Mitch to help him out for the pin.
7. Vin Gerard vs Worker Ant. Vin starts off the match by making sure he's covered in bug spray. Crowd getting on Vin's case big time with Equinox chants and taunts. Vin laid out ant traps to taunt Worker Ant, but Worker reversed all attempts to land a sick brainbuster for the win!
8. Campeonatos de Parejas: Incoherence vs Sea Donsters. Hydra no longer has muscles! Dude must've cycled off.
Primera Caida: Donst and Delirious start off the match with some slick chain wrestling, with Delirious actually taking the upper hand on the young mat wizard. Hydra tags in and Delirious is scared and confused, noting that he "thought Brock was at UFC tonight." Lots of comedy with Delirious' fear. Hydra goes for the Batista Bomb, but Wicked hits him with a Yakuza for the pin. Incoherence up 1-0.
Segunda Caida: Hydra was incapacitated after the fall so Delirious decided to give Hydra water...not knowing that this would give him the power to Hulk up and attempt a double chokeslam on Incoherence. Thankfully, not enough to lift them. After some back and forth wrestling, Mantis and Crossbones had words with Hydra, distracting him enough to allow Delirious to hit Chemical Imbalance for the win in two straight falls.

Preshow Notes: No barriers today! Lince's coming for me clearly. Seems to be sort of a low attendance judging by the number of people outside. I'd say 200 tops. For those disturbed by bells on DVD's, they're in effect again tonight.
1. Los Ice Creams vs Las Chivas: Tons of wacky nonsense early on. Maybe it's just a tired crowd from the bad weather, but nobody seemed to take to anything early on. However the always fantastic Ice Creams picked it up as best they could. Bell/airhorn guy now also has a bike horn, which I deem impossible to hateice Creams win with the El Asesino.
2. Fire Ant vs Chuck Taylor: Fire Ant is wearing the YLC orange highlighter gear. Really fun serious match with a little bit of Chuck wackiness to spice it up. Fire Ant wins with the Beach Break in 8:14; good times!
Vin Gerard/Shane Storm promo: Short and sweet, Vin noted that Shane's a winner as of late. Time to think about more change.
3. Fabulous Two vs Sara del Rey and Bobby Dempsey: Sweeney came out with Sara and Bobby. Really fun Fabs match, "textbook" if you will. Sweeney attempted to help Bobby get the pin on Hawke, but accidentally ruined the match by helping Hawke pin Dempsey. Good stuff. After the match, Mitch got on the mic and called Sweeney a loser.
4. Jimmy Olsen vs Worker Ant. Worker Ant did the entire Stan Hansen entrance for no apparent reason except to be awesome and pop four people in the crowd including myself. So great. Best show ever now. As expected, Jimmy kept going for the mask...but actually got a clean pin following a brainbuster. Good and quick. Jimmy went after the mask right before the pin, looking under it to see who it was but not removing it.
5. Team FIST vs Super Smash Bros.: Today's game for Player Dos - "Karate Kid II: The Game". This is so the best gimmick ever. Tons of little bits involving Uno's Yoshi stuffed animal that will surely be detailed a few hours after this show ends. Really fun match, FIST are still one of the most awesome rudo duos around. When Uno hit his finish, the lights dropped and we had full FINISH HIM and FATALITY sounds. UNO and Dos get their second point over former champs!
Intermission~!
Video plays over the big screen announcing the return of Tag World Grand Prix in November!
6. Young Lions Cup Vin Gerard (c) vs Drake Younger: as expected, Drake is megaover. Some really good chain wrestling earlier before Drake brings the pain with stiff forearms and chops. Shane Storm came out to watch over the match about half way through. Drake gets the ropes on the STF and kicks out after curbstomps. Drake hit the Drake's Landing, only for Storm to come in and hit Vin ONLY to give him the win via DQ Storm celebrated for Vin after the match. Vin told him he doesn't go to the back any more, come to the streets...
7. Sea Donsters and Quack vs The Temple and Dr. Cube: A real standard tag match. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. Only real thing of note was Fonst getting Crossbones up for the Donstitution. Mantis pins Hydra via Praying Mantis Bomb.
8. Lince Dorado vs Eddie Kingston: There is a sign that says "Spoiler: Lince Dies". Love it. King is killing the kid, screaming about how Lince can't win the approval of the crowd. Just brutal, and the crowd is loving it. They started to turn around for him but I think the crowd kinda likes watching this kid get hit. Lince screwed up BIG TIME on a springboard elbow, laughable. Lince dies in 12:04 via rear naked choke. After the match, Lince was begging him to come back and hit him.
9. Incoherence and Claudio vs The Osirian Portal and Brodie: Claudio and Brodie waste no time getting right into it as the other members of the match just stand back for a moment and let them go at it. Eventually Wicked and Amasis tear it up, and Delirious and Ophidian taunt one another before getting into it themselves. Claudio and Incoherence do a fun quick-tag spot on Ophidian in their corner - Claudio hits him with an Uppercut, tags in Wicked who hits him with a chop, then tags in Delirious for another strike, rotating around a few times. One thing we need an excuse to have soon is a Hallowicked vs Brodie singles match. The Portal and Brodie spent time ganging up on Delirious, just kicking the crap out of dude. After a lack of communication from Brodie, he accidentally nails his partners allowing Claudio to get the big tag from Delirious. Him and Brodie beat the hell out of each other, including Brodie throwing dude HARD into the ring steps. From there, all hell broke loose until Claudio managed to get the pin on Ophidian after a huge uppercut. Brodie and Claudio got into it...and then literally the whole roster poured out to break it up. September 7th - Brodie. Claudio. STEEL CAGE.
