I'm not a HUGE rap guy, but I listen to a share of it. My favorite is Nas, haven't heard anything better by someone alive.

Nas isn't consistent enough to be the best rapper alive. His last two albums have both been horrible.

I know this is a little off topic, but its a question I'm still dying to have answered.
I don't listen to rap at all, and this isn't meant to talk down about Lil Wayne or rap in general, but honestly, what do people see in him?
Perhaps its just something I'm missing entirely, but I don't think his songs are catchy. I've listened to the lyrics and found nothing about them to be intriguing or even thought-provoking. Every song I've ever heard by him has that annoying electronic layer over his voice, leading me to wonder what he's actually capable of without all the production.
I'm hoping maybe a rap fan can answer this for me, because I've asked friends who are obsessed with him, and they've provided me with nothing closer to understanding the hype.

Besides his lyrics always having some pop culture reference I don't understand the big deal with him either.

What people see in Lil Wayne still gets to me... Anyways, best rapper alive, Id say T.I or Eminem (not because hes white) What you dont see in Lil Wayne, I dont see in Eminem. I think hes horrible, and never should've made it big. But currently, there are a few that I think could be considered the best, and for different reasons. Ice Cube- No one is harder, and delivers like he does. Krayzie Bone- Lets face it, his lyrics are fantastic, and no one can keep up with him and make sense. (cough, twista garbage, cough) Lil Wayne- Hes good, he has some dope rhymes, But at the same time, hes corny as hell at times too. So maybe not him.. Wiz Khalifa- If you havent heard of him, you need to. He's from right here in my home town, and hes starting to make it big. Now, thats not why I mention him, I trully believe hes dope. Chamillionaire- Ill prolly get crap on for this, but all you have to do is pick up one of his mixtapes, and you'll agree with me. Now.. I know this is all about oppinion and all, but I dont know how ANYONE could say people like Eminem, who is cornier than a toilet in Nebraska..

Lil Wayne Atmosphere Kanye West T.I.
I can't narrow that list down. Eminem would win if he is still around but the dude has too many personal problems to even be concerned with the rap game. I doubt "King Marshall" will be coming out.
Jay-Z was good back in the day...and the Blueprint was classic. But his new s*** is whack and it all sounds the same. Same jazz beat, same lyrics...blah blah blah. I'm done with him. He should go and have a happy life with Beyonce. Leave rap alone.
Nas was amazing. But sometimes dude gets on some egotrip and it really affects his music...where he thinks lame beats and recycled concepts will be fine because he is a good lyricist. But the truth of the matter is his last "good" album was "Stillmatic".
I do however think T.I. is going to step his game up and let his bulls*** legal troubles and all that other mess go and just concentrate on being amazing at his craft. "Swagger like us" was his one of his best verses ever.

For right now, at this exact moment, it's gotta be Wayne, he's just got the best of everything. Plus the dude releases 200+ songs a year. I wasn't really feelin' American Gangster, so maybe by Blueprint 3 Jay-Z can get back to the top. And Nas is nowhere near his Illmatic days, Hip Hop is Dead was a colossal letdown.

Nas isn't consistent enough to be the best rapper alive. His last two albums have both been horrible. I couldn't disagree more. Nas stepped his game up even more on Untitled and released his best studio album since It Was Written in my opinion. If we're talking about the best lyricist in the game, Nas takes the cake in my opinion.

First off all Pimp C is dead, for that guy who said it earlier.
Second, Lil Wayne is horrible. His rhymes are not "dope", that don't make sense, and the thing he has going for him is his voice. Look he's like the 2pac and Biggie of my time. Even thought you cannot compare him to them, he is what "is in", now Biggie and Pac will be in forever, but Wayne will soon die out, right after he croaks from his "sizzurp", or claiming to be something he is not. He is not legit, and not really in the game, and tbh...how can you talk about the hood when you drive a MFN Bentley and own a 3 story house...come on now.
Now the best Alive would have to go to Jay-Z. Like or not, he is a legend. I mean look at him, he's done basically everything and not to mention is now married to Beyonce. He has sold more album than any other rapper alive and his lyrics make sense, and his flow is unbelievable. Now Nas comes in a close second, followed by Eminem and 50 Cent, because even though 50 is not so great, he and those others will all go down as legends.

Other than Hero and Chris Brown/Game track I found it hard to listen to the album more than once.
