Hey guys,
Was just watching no surrender today and the thought came to me, TNA really needs to calm down on the amount of nicknames they give to wrestlers - its kind of getting ridiculous.
Let's just go through a quick list:
"The Samoan Submission Machine" Samoa Joe "The instant classic" Christian Cage "The War machine" Rhino "The phenomenal one" AJ Styles "The middle eastern nightmare" Abdul Bashir "The monster" Abyss "The king of the mountain" Jeff Jarrett "The guru" Sonjay Dutt "Maple Leaf muscle" Petey Williams "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal "The blueprint" Matt Morgan "The icon" Sting
im sure there's more but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head....I guess there's no harm in giving those nicknames to the main event talent - but I feel it just loses its charm/novelty when virtually everyone on the roster gets one.

I don't see what the big deal is honestly. Atleast most of 'em make sense and connect with the guy.

I have no problem with every wrestler having a nickname, as long as it makes sense. But if someone has multiple nicknames, some of which are stupid or nonsensical (Petey Williams comes to mind), then I get a little annoyed.

Hey, all of Petey's nicknames are awesome
But in regards to the topic at hand, I don't think it's that big of a deal... I mean, MMA wrestlers all have nicknames it seems...

the more nicknames a wrestler can have the better-providing they're good ones. it only means more t-shirt and other merchandise sales....but yeah, little petey pump is probably the worst one to come along in a while. maple leaf muscle/ the definition of definition was just fine. they should have left it there.

Plus, look at the excessive nicknames in WWE. Jericho is probably the worst offender, but people like Rock, Austin, and Triple H are up there.

Make-believe-muscle has a good sound to it, and isn't entirely nonsensical.

Sarcasm, fails, once again. Make Believe Muscle would be a valid choice for a resourceful, meaningful, appropriate nickname. Maple Leaf Muscle sounds like a canadian chippendale dancer.

What the hell are you talking about? Wrestling and nicknames go together like meat and potatoes.
Hmm lets see.. how many nicknamed wrestlers can I think off the top of my head before I lose interest in this post and move on?
"Hollywood" Hulk Hogan "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair "The Game" HHH "The King of KIngs" HHH "The Phenom" The Undertaker "The Dead Man" The Undertaker Jerry "The King" Lawler "Mr. Monday Night" RVD "Mr. Thursday Night" RVD "The Whole F'N show" RVD "The Whole Damn Show" RVD Bret "The HItman" Hart "HBK" Shawn Michaels (Dont make me name all of his nicknames) "Y2J" Chris Jericho (Again, im not naming them all) "The Legend Killer" Randy Orton "Good Ol' JR" Jim Ross
So much for your theory, I can go on all night.

I actually like that. It reminds me of back when all of the main eventers in the WWE had nicknames (around 2001-2002).

The nicknames are supposed to help us connect to the talent.
