The constitution made effective in 1789 isn't outdated? I think we should bring back the guillotine! Yes! Did you get the invite to the next public trial for witchcraft?

The constitution made effective in 1789 isn't outdated? No. Â Every civil liberty you enjoy today exists solely because that document guarantees it. I'm not American buddy.

Fair enough. In my view, guns should be limited to the police, the military, and under very extreme limitation for sport. Also, if you're still eligible to go to school, you shouldn't be able to own a gun. I know there's an age limit of 21, but the kid was 19 and he ended up with one. So you want to abolish the 2nd Amendment. There are over 300,000,000 in the United States. Â How do you propose we round them all up, assuming people agree to aloow the government to wipe its butt with the constitution and take awy their civil liberties? Additionally, have you seen the results of what happens when the federal government tries to outlaw things peole want, like alcohol, drugs, and prostitution? The results have not been very good. Right, so you're saying that we should just let people do what they like because they would protest if it was taken away? If it means less dead children then yeah, screw your stupid constitution. Everyone else I've spoken to here at least has a legitimate point. Like I said a little earlier, this seems to boil down to "I like guns, so don't take them away"

Yes that's true, but he was saying that the constitution is outdated. If that's what he was saying, he is wrong. The constitution made effective in 1789 isn't outdated?

Have you read the rest of this thread or are you just quoting people with questions? I read the thread. Â i'm asking you a question. Â That's how discussions work. Â If you've already given an in-depth explanation, I missed it. Fair enough. In my view, guns should be limited to the police, the military, and under very extreme limitation for sport. I think once you have a gun problem you'tr ed. No one will want to give up their guns if they've bought it as protection and criminals wont give up their guns cause they're criminals, the thing is I know its "an american right" to bear arms, and thats fine if thats your "right" then fair enough, I just think the law needs looking at the constitution was drawn up a long time ago, way before the idea of an automatic gun, I think if the dude who wrote up the constitution could see how far guns have advanced and how dangerous an automatic is compared to a musket or whatever they used back then, they wouldnt have put pen to paper. Not a dude. Â Dudes. Â And they had to put it in the constitution because American citizens were fighting off hostile forces from all sides (British soldiers, angry American Indians, and wild, dangerous animals.) Without guns they were as good as dead. Yes that's true, but he was saying that the constitution is outdated.

Some of these arguments seem to boil down to "Hey don't place really heavy restrictions, I like guns!" What restrictions do you want that are currently not in place? Have you read the rest of this thread or are you just quoting people with questions?

Besides, if you only have a single example, it's a pretty weak point to make.

The texas church shooter was stopped by a lawful gun owner. Tell me the last time a good guy with a gun thwarted a mass shooting. LOL... I changed it when I realised you answered my question, but feel free to avoid everything else I said and focus on the one mistake.

The UK has only ever had one school shooting. We've had 18 this year. UK violent crime is sky high because we're a defenceless population. US. Don't be like us, we've practically a police state here. As for the topic: -More guns in the hands of good people. The texas church shooter was stopped by a lawful gun owner. Violent crime rates sore when there aren't guns. -Less in the hands of people who shouldn't have them. People should not be able to get a gun if they even live with a person with a criminal record or mental illness. -END GUN FREE ZONES. They're monumentally stupid, and will only attract lunatics with guns because they know they'll get no resistance. Right, so you want them to do exactly what they are already trying to do and failing miserably at? The rational behind this is very confusing. How exactly do you determine the "good guy"? With the background checks that have already been proven not to work? The solution lies somewhere in the middle, and "more guns" is not in that margin.

That's not how terror bombings work though. They're secretive. If this was the case, people would be shooting whoever they suspected would leave a bomb, which would honestly end up creating even more of a disaster. If I was armed and was sat having a coffee at the time and saw a crazed Muslim driving a truck at people I’d have have got my gun out and tried to shoot him. Had I been there unarmed I’d have legged it and he’d have killed more Why do you keep changing the subject? You know I was talking about bombings. I won't even bother going into the fact that you had to specify it was a Muslim. I don't fancy a warning bar.

How many truck bombs/terrorist attacks have happened in UK and/or Europe? More than if we were armed and could have shot the bastards That's not how terror bombings work though. They're secretive. The UK has only ever had one school shooting. We've had 18 this year. How many truck bombs/terrorist attacks have happened in UK and/or Europe? A lot! Again, not nearly as many as in the US, but we've had a lot. All attacks of any kind are awful. I don't entirely know what you meant by this, but it definitely comes across like you're trying to justify the gun problem by saying that other weapons kill people too.

Maybe so, but the fatality rate for stabbings is far lower than shootings. Someone bought this up on Twitter earlier and I could only find three mass stabbing incidents, and none of them happened in the UK. Well last year there were 80 knife fatalities in London alone. Per head I’d guess the number of knife fatalities in the uk is higher than gun fatalities in the US There is no way that last sentence can be true when you consider the overall size of the US compared to the UK. There were probably more gun related deaths in one state than knife deaths in the entire UK last year.

It’s a gun and mental health issue. We can’t just do nothing. If you’re going to say it’s not guns, but mental health..then make mental health services easier to receive. This is not normal anywhere else in the world. It’s okay to have a different opinion than what your political party is paid to force upon you. You worded this much better than I can seem too. My thoughts exactly.
