Well as promised here is a review of the Maximum Aggression line that has recently debuted. This review will look at the pros and cons and I shall make a bunch of noteworthy mentions about the line. Pics have been included where necessary. If you need any others just ask for them. Same with questions.
Here we go….
Pros• Attires and tattoos: to most people, attires and tattoo determine how good a figure is. After buying 3 max figs, I can say that it is a trend that most Max figures have perhaps the single best attire and tattoo work out. I can see two attire faults (hhhs back design and punks boots) but the rest of the attires and tattoos look amazing. Tattoos look so sharp and crisp as well as highly detailed. Attires, particularly reys are done amazingly well with very few factory errors such as paint smudges and all. MAs overall are painted extremely well. To proto level in fact.
• Headscans, whilst HHHs appears to be a scaled up DA one, all 3 that I have look amazing and are arguable the most accurate of each persons released. Lashleys one also looks good from what I can see. The only flaw that I see is HHH has slightly yellowish hair but pictures exaggerate. Heads are for the most part in scale, perhaps HHHs and punks could be a little bigger. Heads fit well on the neck join and have good articulation.
• Detachable parts, not the purpose of buying the figures for me but it is for some people. The concept can actually be quite fun and also makes customising easy in a way. I was able to do my first headswap. But anyway, the head, hands as well as the upper and lower bodys separate. The feature doesn’t make the figures vulnerable in any way. You have to use a slight force and pull to get parts off so it isn’t too hard to get them off but it also wont prevent you from playing with them or having flimsy display pieces.
• Packaging, to some people is doesn’t matter but this packaging is easily the best. Nothing really compared to CS before but this packaging does. It has a real photo of the star on one side, the figure on the other, and the back has a large version of the proto of the fig on the back with small ones of the other figs in the series. A small bio is even included too. There are also mentions on the features. The packaging designs look great especially inside the box. The curve thing looks great and makes the packaging a great way to display these large figures. Jakks even include designs at the bottom of the inside the box so they really look complete (pictured). Another advantage of the packaging is its resealability. Only two pieces of tape are used to close the package so its extremely easy to make it MOC as if factory sealed. The figures also look great inside the box posed without the plastic bubble.
• Size, can be a pro and a con but the size makes it unique and great for display. The size also allows for everything to be more detailed and for the detachable parts idea to work because if they were smaller, the parts wouldn’t become flimsy.
Cons• Playability, this is only a con if managing 30cm and up figures is too hard for you, these figures are gigantic and I mean gigantic. Just look at how they compare to RA, DA and BNB.
• Detachable parts, I would assume that perhaps after a lot of switching the parts may become a bit looser. I personally haven’t gotten to this stage but im saying it could happen but it’s a prediction.
• Price, arguably a premium line but it does have a premium price when not on sale. That’s why its advised you buy ones you really like, your favourite star or if they are on sale. But really, they are deluxe, large and got a concept to them so they obviously need to be pricey.
These are honestly pretty much the only cons I can provide for the actually style of figure itself. Some figures have flaws but the line itself isn’t very flawed other than these.
Noteable Points• Rey is in fact smaller than the others
• Maximum figs are rather heavy
• Point of articulation are the exact same as DA figs
• Detachable parts are: head, upper body, lower body, hands
• Price can be justified through the stlye being: very large and with deluxe articulation plus the inclusion of detachable features
• Highly recommend Rey from series 1
• It’s a good idea to buy your favourite superstar from the line or ones you like a lot if cost is a factor preventing you buying them
• Most are pretty solid and articulation is rather good. Yet to experience a bad loose joint
• Is recommended as a display item, loose or MOC. Playable if you wish. Not recommended though.
• Recommended Max As at this point in time:
Series 1: Rey - Series 2: (not a great set but perhaps) Y2J - Series 3: Edge or Morrison
Overall Comment + GradeThese figures may not appeal too much at first (they didn’t to me until I bought them) but when you buy them your opinion changes. The quality of the paintjobs, attires, scans and tattoo work is extremely high. By looking at series 1 there are only 2 flaws being hhhs trunk design back and punks boots (reys cross and punks tats are a jacks issue not a mistake) but apart from this there are too many good things that overshadow it. The packaging is superb as are the quality of the figures. The detachable parts concept may be seen as an ‘added bonus’. Also it appears unlikely repaints will occure due to the nature of the line. In closing, an awesome line producing great figures that make awesome display pieces and is recommended. Currently Max A is better than the growingly mediocre RA and DA lines. It would appear, the extreme scales (BNB and MaxA) are doing better than the standard lines.
Final grade (E, E+, D, D+, C, C+, B, B+, A, A+) = A
