Well unless you dont visit here you would be able to quite clearly see that as of late the popularity of diva figures has gone big time. There seems to be more people buying them but also some who are dedicated to making diva-only purchases. Not to mention there's been an outburst of diva clothing customs being made.
So the question is, where did this trend come from? How did it pick-up. No pun intended, this seems to be quite the hot topic around here which could make for some interesting discussion.

Well i know i started getting into making the diva outfits after seeing some youtube wrestling shows, but i didn't strat making them till after jimmy jimmy started making stuff for me then sent me some cloth to try and make my own stuff, as far as a time table goes i'd say about a year ago. PS i am not a "Divas only" collector but my favorite part of my wrestling collection are my diva figures(Since i put alot of work into my customs)

I think that people need to get over it..
Who cares if people other than you make clothes for their figures?
People make clothes for guys as well and they look nice most of the time.
Shouldn't jakks be happy since they sell more diva figures?

I honestly think its more strange for someone to do part swaps and "dress" their male figure then female figures. I collect both and customize all so Im not biased

Point is true. Why do you have to make a thread so people can fight? It will be locked if that happens anyways.

Im not presenting any side or view, i just made a thread discussing what seems to be a hot topic. Everyone has their reasons for doing things, im not siding either way. This thread is for discussion not fighting. Im not talking about having a go at what anyone does, just asking how the trend developed and so on, if people have criticism well they can keep it to themselves, surely a topic of discussion doesnt always have to be an arguement. In fact this thread is more for the diva collectors, i was just wondering where the trend came from. It is ironic though that in most RA sets these days, the divas tend to be the better figures with more effort in them except for that horrid skintone they are using.

As far as an increase in Diva figure buys or rise in popularity? I think the answer is fairly simple. As a collector people gravitate towards what's a bit harder to find. No one brags or show off, really, a new John Cena that looks almost identical to the last Cena. The same is true for the Undertaker, Batista, Rey, or HHH. Really there are so many of those figures made that the slight change isn't that big of a deal. The reason there are so many of the figures made is because at the end of the day RA is a toy line geared towards kids. Boys specifically, and little boys rarely want to play as girls. This leads to Diva figures being short packed, and thus harder to find. The fact that collectors snatch them up because they've been looking for them, and then the become harder to find.
Contradictory however even though they are a bit harder to find, they are easier to collect. There are dozens of figures of the popular male figures, yet only a handful of the most produced female figure. I'd guess on the current roster it would be Melina. So to collect every female figure, and build your collection so you have all 50 figures maybe is easier than the few hundred male figures.
Another reason for the increased attention I think worth noting would have to be the frequency of long awaited easily attained figures. Aside from the IE Mickey James figure RA34 I believe is her first figure. Lillian, Beth Pheonix, Mayresse, Maria, Vicky Guererro, and Michelle McCool all have their first figures being released. This is a huge boom when compairing to Victoria, Torrie Wilson, and Melina who had been the main stays.
As far as the clothing? I think like any idea that's somewhat decent once someone recieves the spark from that idea they want to see if they can do better. Some of the Diva fabric outfits look fantastic and add a lot to the figure. Especially since Jakks only uses the one torso and waist mold. How many times have you looked at a Diva figure and her bra is painted for a top to cover what a top would even though the bra mold is plainly obviously visiable. I think it only makes sense to try to present a cleaner looking product for your display shelf. Plus come on who doesn't want to be able to strip Katie Lee to her undies?
The real answer is though it's all in your head. Collectors have always moved towards female figures because they're harder to find. Until I see 8yr olds choosing to pick up a Beth Phoenix figure over a Kofi figure then there is no rise in popularity.

IMO, with the new divas, a collection of them looks pretty sweet.

I've always bought Diva figures since I'm a completest I collect everybody, but since I've decided to sell of my collection, I've decided to just collect DAs and RA Divas. Maybe people like them because they aren't as common as the males.

I have no idea where the trend came from and I don't really get it lol. I don't buy any diva figs, but then again, I usually take a piss or grab a snack when they wrestle on TV too so, that's my take.

i like the divas, but only recently started collecting them as i am vowing to never get a double... but i'm sure that's only going to last so long cuz my brain analyzes figures parts for swaps etc. i'm just cursed. oh, and the clothes - i don't make 'em myself but just last night i picked up the Santino/Maria and my gf was all psyched on making Maria the little hoody thing. Collecting figs is a hobby, and it is what it is to different people. some collect MOC, some only loose, some of us play, some of us display, and some of us make little tiny clothes for our little tiny plastic men and women - and we have this spot on the web to discuss.... and i couldn't be happier with it!

Yeah mate divas have been pretty hard to find but since they have become consistently available with 2 in each RA set, not so much.

My first Diva figures were TTL Trish Stratus, Lita, Chyna, and Stephanie McMahon. Their male counterparts (T and A, Team Xtreme, and D-X) just were not complete without them. These ladies became part of the "team" or stable. So I believe that this is where the trend came from. Back when divas were just "valets," it was not important to purchase a figure of them.
The custom clothes-making for divas are just derivative of the fact that Jakks also makes clothes for its IE diva figures too, like Christy Hemme, Dawn Marie, Melina, and Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley.

I like getting divas because as there is only 1 or 2 diva matches a week on both shows it means that there is never a well built up or good storyline...which means I am able to make storylines without it already being something Wwe has done.
