Hey,
I've got a bunch of old movies on vhs and I was just curious as to why they aren't on DVD as of yet and I wonder if they ever will be.
The first one at the top of the pile is Howard the Duck. Why in the hell is this not on DVD as of yet?? I'd love to add it to my collection for sure. I thought it was a great movie and it's such a shame that it isn't available on official DVD. I hope one day it is.
Others that should be on DVD, but aren't are: Screwballs, Meatballs part 2, Meatballs part III, No Holds Barred (Yeah Hogan's movie with Zeus. I mean, if they released Mr. Nanny and Suburban Commando on DVD, why the hell isn't this one DVD as well?), Killer Looks, Ski Patrol, Paramedics, Slumber Party Massacre 2, Wild Thing, I Like to Hurt People, and Grunt! The Wrestling Movie.
I would definitely love to own all of those ones on DVD. I hope one day the studios release them all on DVD.
Anyone got any ideas why they aren't on DVD as of yet?? Can you think of any other old vhs movies that should be on DVD, but aren't??

Howard the Duck has not been released because Lucas is ashamed of the film and says he will never ok it for DVD release. Your best bet on it is to get one of the bootlegs on ebay. I could have sworn that Slumber Party Massacre 2 was on DVD. I swear I saw it at Big Lots last year for $5.00 but I could be wrong. I have no idea on the others. *edit* I was right it has been released but it seems to be rare and goes for a ton. www.amazon.com/Slumber-Party-Massacre-Crystal-Bernard/dp/6305976422

^ Ok, I guess you can take Slumber Party Massacre 2 off the list. I had no idea it was released on DVD until just now, so thank you for that link. I am very surprised such a cheesy horror movie such as that would be going for so much. If I had the opportunity to pick it up for $5, I would never have passed that up...
That's really too bad about Howard the Duck though. Lucas is ashamed of the movie?? Really?? I'm sure there have been FAR worse movies released on DVD...I'm sure ALOT of people, myself included, that would definitely buy Howard the Duck in the event he changes his mind to release it. He's missing out on a huge cash grab, that's for sure.

You thought Howard the Duck was a "great movie"... wow. Yeah I did, so what. I don't really think it's nearly as bad as some people let on it is, that's for sure. I certainly know myself that I've seen worse movies than Howard the Duck. For example, I'll name a few. The Marine with John Cena. What a god-awful piece of crap that turned out to be. WAY worse than Howard the Duck ever was or could be. Raising Cane. Another atrocious abomination. Hulk (2003). My God, that movie ing sucked. I will NEVER, ever own that piece of crap in my DVD collection. And even if I do get it as a gift, I'm getting rid of that er. I HATED that damn movie. Much worse than Howard the Duck for sure. No doubt in my mind there. The Return of Swamp Thing. This one was even released on DVD. I should know because I've got it and trust me when I tell you, that it is MUCH worse than Howard the Duck. How about Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation. Man, poor Matthew McConaughey. I guess all great actors are entitled to make at least 1 piece of crap in their career and for Matthew, that one was certainly it. One just needs to see the back of the DVD box to know that it's a piece of garbage. LOL. I could go on and on naming tons of movies that were FAR worse than Howard the Duck. And I believe all of THEM were released on DVD, but Howard the Duck hasn't. At least not officially in U.S. and Canada. Even though it's probably one of George Lucas' worst movies that he's made, he should still release it on DVD. When there have been alot of movies that were much worse than Howard the Duck ever was that have been released on DVD, I don't think George Lucas should be as ashamed of it as he is. I think in the end he should just say "Oh well. I may be ashamed of it and it may be one of my worst, but I'll still make loads of money off it" and eventually release it on DVD. It'll be more money in his pocket, so I see no reason why not. A win/win situation for him. That's the way I see it.

Sometimes movies get lost in license/property shuffles. That's why we haven't seen MTV's The State on DVD yet. It was planned, but they're having troubles with the music used in the series since they no longer have the rights to use them.

As far as Meatballs 2 and 3 go, my guess is it's because they suck and are a disgrace to the Meatballs name.

Howard the Duck was hilarious and horrible. It's a great movie to watch with a bunch of friends and riff on MST3K style. I'd love it on DVD. I don't understand why you're all giving him a hard time about it. We get crap on DVD all the time... Transformers, the Spiderman movies, the Apatow era comedies, modern Eddie Murphy flicks, and a bunch more.

The best part about Howard the Duck was when Howard was being sucked through the halls of his apartment building and passes a female Duck with tits exposed masturbating in her bathtub.

Howard the Duck's release got crapcanned a few years ago, which is disappointing, as I've wanted to see it again for the first time since I was a kid. I've wanted 'No Holds Barred' on DVD for years, now. I'd love to have commentary by Hogan and McMahon putting over how awesome the movie is.. like Hogan does in his book. ing hilarious.

As soon as I saw the topic title, my first thought was No Holds Barred. I'll never understand. I think I remember thinking it was alright, but I don't remember.
