How in the blue hell do you let another team put up 91 against you...at home?! Did they forget how to play football or something? That would be a game to see.

Maybe I come from a different school of sportsmanship, but unless someone embarassed you in the past in a manner like this, you should try to win with class. Putting up 91 points is classless. Granted, I don't know how exactly an opposing team allows another team to accomplish such a feat, but unless they were completely inept, there would have been a point in the game where if I were the head coach of Naples, I likely would have started running the clock.
I wasn't at the game, maybe they tried running it up the middle, and the other team was just so horrible that they didn't stop the run. Who knows? When you're at a level like High School, or Pee Wees, there should be a certain level of sportsmanship maintained, thats usually the first thing you're taught.

There's no place for this in high school football. College football and pro football? I could care less. Run up the score.

Yeah, but unless it is an intense rivalry, I do trust that any NFL head coach with class(basically everyone but Bill Belichick), would likely not run up the score that much. Not to mention, if you let someone run up 90+ on you in the NFL, your team likely doesn't belong in the NFL.
I played hockey in high school, and we once had a commanding 8-0 lead going into the third. My coach told the team that anyone who takes a shot on net unless all five players on the ice touch the puck first would be benched for the next game. I think thats a fair way to do it. We won the game 9-0, and basically worked on passing, and moving the puck for the rest of the game. Its hard to just disregard the game, but you don't overwhelm and embarass the other team.

I remember when I was in jr high, the highschool had this kid who was just a beast at basketball for our conference/area. He ended up doing D1, playing pro overseas etc.
Anyway, in the first quarter of a game they were up by like 15-20 right off the bat. This kid went up and dunked it pretty nasty, no showboating though. Coach took him out directly after, never played more than 10 mins maybe that night.
After I asked my brother (who played on the team.... well, sat on the bench), and he explained to me that someday when that kid is gone and we play this team again, etc.
Sure enough the school relocated many years later and stopped recruiting/handing out free tuition for a few years and they took their lumps.

As probably the only person on these boards who played both of these teams during his high school days on the football field...this doesn't really surprise me. Naples is, and always has been, a powerhouse football team. It's not their fault that Estero is terrible.

I'd need to see how the score was run up before passing total judgment... if they're just running through the defense, its kinda hard to do anything but that. I don't expect any team to start kneeling the ball in the first half. If they're returning interceptions for touchdowns, I can see that too... however, if you have a 40-50 point lead, and you're airing out 60 yard bombs, thats pretty classless.
I didn't see the game, but its hard to see a 91-0 score in any event and say it was handled with the amount of respect and sportsmanship it likely should have been handled with.

Sometimes, especially in high school, you cant help that situation. Since graduating in 2002 Ive watched my high school rip off 4 straight state titles (with another to come this year) and put many guys into D1 colleges. A few years back they beat a team in the playoffs 91-7....Now the first string was pulled out after the 1st quarter when the score got to 35-0. The ball was ran the entire time. Quarters were shortened to 8min instead of 12 and the clock automatically ran unless a timeout was called.....Sometimes you just cant help it. Its not fair for Freshmen finally getting playing time and you tell them "Hey go out there and take a knee in the 2nd qt cause we're beating these guys so bad" Steve Spurrier said it best "My job is to score, your job is to stop me" And just so people dont "doubt me" here is an article about the rematch the next year in the playoffs www5.knoxnews.com/news/2007/Nov/23/Gatlinburg-Pittman-wants-no-Alcoa-replay/

you guys do realize that they did run their 2nd and 3rd string players for most of the game right? I think Naples did a good job in showing sportsmanship. I could see if they kept in the first stringers and just kept blazing on em..but they put in the scrubs. its not their fault there is no mercy ruling and that Estero couldnt stop the run.

I'm fairly certain they took knees and ran running plays as well.

Well it is a teams job to stop the other team. If they got be beat by 91 then it is nobodies fault but their own.

Sometimes you cant really help when you're that much better then a team. In the link I posted above, at that game the starters were showered and back on the sidelines before half time. You cant tell these young kids that are 3rd string freshman to go in and take a knee in the 3rd quarter. Thats not fare to them. It also didnt help the defense scored 9........Touchdowns that is

My brothers team played Byrnes, which was the number one team in the nation, They ended up losing 98-13. I wasnt there but I heard about it. Willy Korn(now quarterback for Clemson) threw 3 td passes in the 4th quarter when they went in leading big time. Now that is classless.

I have never seen a score this ridiculous in my entire life. Rough stuff. How can't you feel bad for Estero?
