*Camera comes up on a home. Modest, not big, but certainly not small. Aaron Ashton walks into the kitchen, turning the light on above the sink. He grabs a bowl from the cupboard, and cereal from the cupboard next to it. As he turns to the fridge for the milk, his cell phone vibrates on the counter. Not knowing the number, he lets it go to voice mail. After fixing his bowl of cereal, he picks the phone up, enter his password, and listens to the voicemail that was left.*
Voice: "Mr. Ashton. This is the front office for WFDC. We were asked to contact you, and let you know that you've been booked on the next show. Your opponent will be Ace Bennett. Also, just for future reference, when you're employer calls...you should probably answer. Good day."
*Ashton snears at the phone as he deletes the message.*
Aaron: "Bite me."
*Ashton tosses the phone back on the counter. He eats his bowl of cereal, trying to remember who Ace Bennett is. He begins to wonder aloud.*
Aaron: "Ace Bennett. Ace Bennett. Hmmm. The name sounds familiar, but I just can't place it. Is he....? No. That wasn't him."
*Finishing the cereal, he places the dish in the sink. He decides he needs to do a little research, find out more about this Ace Bennett. Putting on his shoes, and grabbing his track jacket, he heads out the door. He walks down the streets of his suburban neighborhood, heading for the one place he knows wrestlers hang out when they're in town: World Class Gym and Juice Bar. As he walks, he puts his hands in his pockets, being incredibly chilly outside. Walking in the cold air, he continues to think about Ace Bennett. Reaching his destination, he opens the door, walking inside. He sees Tony, the owner, behind the desk, and walks up to him.
Tony: "Hey! Mr. Ashton! I heard about your first match! Good luck!"
*This takes Aaron back a little.*
Aaron: "But...how? I just found out about it about half an hour ago."
Tony: "Where all the great news comes from, my friend!"
Aaron: [finally getting it] "The internet. Gotcha. Jeez, I can't believe they found out about my match before I did. Listen, as you probably know, my opponent is one Ace Bennett. Have any information on him to give me, seeing as this is the place to be in town if you're a pro wrestler?"
Tony: [chuckles] "Well, I've only really met the guy once. And let me tell you, he's no slouch. You're going to have your hands full, and you better be on your A game if you wanna win"
Aaron: "Any tips you can give me?"
Tony: "Sorry, buddy. You're on your own."
*Aaron scoffs, and starts walking away, calling over his shoulder...*
Aaron: "Thanks. You're a real pal."
*Aaron hears Tony say something behind him, but his mind has wandered elsewhere. Still trying to find someone with any input, he wanders to the juice bar, where Skylar is busy making smoothies.*
Skylar: "Aaron! It's been a while, man! How are you? Tony told me about your match! Best of luck to you!"
Aaron: "Thanks, Sky. Look, do you have any information on my opponent? Tony was absolutely no help at all."
Skylar: "Never seen the guy."
*Aaron quickly feels incredibly dejected.*
Aaron: "I can't honestly believe that no one has ANY information on this guy. It's insane. It's like this guy just appeared out of thin air, and is coming to kick my ass."
*Aaron stands, and thanks Skylar again as he walks toward a machine. He sits down, adjusting the weights. He takes the bar, and starts lowering it, pulling the weights up, still thinking about his match.*
Person: "You're looking for information on Ace Bennett?"
*Aaron slowly lowers the weights back down. He turns to face the voice.*
Aaron: "Yeah. So? What's it to you?"
*The person chuckles, taking a seat on the bench across from Aaron.*
Person: "Well, it just so happens that I am the main recruiter for WFDC, and I've had a LOT of contact with him."
*Aaron looks impressed.*
Aaron: "Well, what can you tell me?"
Recruiter: "Well, I'm NOT going to give you any tips or strategies. But you had better really step up your game if you want to beat him. The kid has heart, determination, and the will to win more than I've seen in a long time."
*Aaron raises a hand, cutting him off.*
Aaron: "I've heard enough. Everyone has the heart and determination to make it in this business. As soon as you put on a pair of boots, you're determined. As soon as you put on your tights, you've got the heart. As soon as you hear about your first match, you have the will to win. It's going to take a lot more than that to beat me. So, no one is going to help me out here? That's fine. I don't NEED to help. It would have been NICE to have, but I don't need it. I've never needed anyone's assistance before this, and I probably won't need it in the future."
*Aaron stands from the maching, still looking at the recruiter.*
Aaron: "And, since you have so much contact with Ace Bennett, please let him know that he's in my head. I've never even met the guy, and he already bugs me to the point that I'm incredibly annoyed. So, let him know that, not only do I plan on winning our little match, but also that I plan on making his career in WFDC a very, VERY short one."
*With that, Aaron zips up his track jacket, and storms out of the gym, leaving all of its occupants in stunned silence.*
