David sat on the bench looking over the park he was watching on as the children played with their parents, there was one particular boy that caught David’s eye. The boy was wearing a dark green t-shirt and was playing soccer with his Dad who was wearing a large Blue T-Shirt, the man had woolly grey hair that was in a ragged mess and had leaves hanging from it. David looked on in anger, in jealousy. He had never had that with his father, he had never had that joy. His thoughts wandered to his Son and Daughter, he had never spent enough time with them, he was too busy he was out all night in the pub and he had spent his days in the shed. He just sat there all day long waiting until the night time, when he could sneak out to a bar and drown his sorrows.
David suddenly returned to reality with the boy still there kicking the ball to his dad, David thought again about his own father, he had never forgiven him. David was a mistake, and David knew it, so his Dad walked out on him when he was only seven. His Dad needed to get away from the moaning and the nagging, only return to the town a few years later. David still wouldn’t forgive him that time, until more than six years after he had returned when his Dad and Mum had got back together. But it wasn’t long until they started to argue, it soon became physical abuse that David was caught in the middle of.
So he left David again with nothing but a phone number, for months his Dad would call but David wouldn’t answer, he tried to escape it all. David had grown up with no books and no education, He had to survive though, he took the little money he had after staying with his mum until he was 20 and then bought a flat. Five years later his wife and daughter had died and he had served time in jail. Four years had passed since then. It was the anniversary of David’s wife’s death, he had marked the last four anniversaries by sitting in a bar downing glass after glass in an attempt to forget. But something was different today, he didn’t know what, it was just a flash something strange running through his body, something that didn’t crave beer, something that stopped him. He walked to his truck; rubbing his eyes he seemed dazed and confused. On reaching the door of his large truck he hauled himself in. Turning the key he began to rev the engine. Starting off slowly and cautiously he turned around from the gate of the park; he was trying to focus on driving and not his past. It was a sharp bend and as he clipped the kerb, he could see the Graveyard just ahead. The huge black gates! He drove his truck between them, still being very cautious, as he drove, the faces seemed to look at him peering into the cab, he was still confused but he also felt insecure with everyone peering in, their faces pushed up against the panel of glass. David turned down a path and pulled his truck up by the row of mostly old Victorian graves. His wife and daughters grave stuck starkly out from the tangled mass of old graves. He walked up to the graves there was ivy crawling around them climbing up the cold dry stone, there were some cut tulips by the grave. His daughter had always liked flowers, especially tulips. David suddenly realised that he hadn’t put the flowers on their grave yet and suddenly a man wearing a cloak that went over his head appeared in the edge of his vision. David recognised him instantly it was his then long time friend and now worse enemy Daniel, the man he held responsible for their deaths.
“I thought I might find you here”
He said in a deep voice
“What do you want from me”?
David said in anger and frustration
“Did you see Jake”?
He said with an evil grin on his face
“I saw him”
“You saw him, did you see him lying there all alone, did you think about that time he had spent in that hospital, no one there for him, no one by his side”
David was speechless he stood there again in a daze, he saw the days passing in his mind 1…2…3…4 he counted the days in his head and he saw them passing before him. No one there, just the sun gazing in on his son, the man smiled as he watched David’s face as he was distant in his own mind and thoughts, The man coughed and David snapped from his daze, He went to speak but stopped, as closed his mouth the man walked away, leaving David alone with his own twisted thoughts.
“I know what it’s like to have my life taken away”
The man said as he walked off
David sat by the grave reading the message, as he did, so still upset and confused he stood up suddenly.
He shouted at the figure walking away. “I had the most to lose and I lost it all, but know I have nothing to lose and I have everything to gain. With that drive I will walk in to the Pay Per View with nothing and I will leave champion”
David turned back to the graves and laid his roses over them, He returned to full height and in a flash his mind was cast again to four years ago, he, his then best friend, his son, his daughter and his wife were there again, in the living room. His wife had told David about the affair between her and Daniel, David had imagined them together then his life had been turned upside down. Daniel had walked in to house, the kids where sitting at the table totally unaware of the horrible fact he had just learned. David had clenched his hand into a fist and looked at Daniel, all those years David had been in prison this slimeball had been sleeping with his wife. SMASH! He had hit Daniel with blood spilling from Dan’s nose the kid’s were crying. “Shut Up!” David shouted in anger, still gripped with a blind anger he had kicked his wife outside, throwing their bags on to the floor he snatched his daughter and took her to Daniel’s car. He had thrown Dan outside and the last he saw of his wife and daughter was them in the car, Jake had ran up to his room. David had watched them drive away. Later that day he had opened to door to find two policemen who had told him about the accident and the. He had gone up to tell Jake but found him lying there motionless. He remembered calling an ambulance but he didn’t remember any more, he had blocked it out his mind.
The doctors lifted David’s limp body from the ambulance, he still wouldn’t wake from the screwed up dream. David was carried in to the hospital his eyes were fluttering open and closed again, he fell back into the deep dream for hours.
Waking up, Jake was lying next to him, still in his coma, they were both in the small room cramped into the corner of the ward.
David sat up slowly still a little frail, he was unsure what had happened between seeing Daniel walking away and arriving here.
“Dane Christian, you and me must team it looks like I’m not going to be 100% out there but I will put on a hell of a fight”
David drank at the glass of water at his side.
“Possessed Follower you will be facing me and Dane and I’m going to put my life on the line to defeat you”
David rolled out of his bed and walked away making sure that he could not to be seen, he looked in a small room and grabbed some wires yanking them from the wall.
“I will use anything and everything around me I won’t back down and I won’t lose and that is a fact”
David sat by a bench gulping away at a bottle of water
“I’m putting it all on the line”
“Four years later”
