Hitler is probably the most hated person in all the world ever. But something that intrigues me is why many people like/are indifferent towards another tyrant in Stalin. Stalin actually killed more people than Hitler, but because he fought against him in WWII he is considered nowhere near as evil as Hitler. He was a communist, and never really an ally of the British and Americans. They were formally allies, but deep down they hated one another. An example of this is, in the recent Russell Brand thing ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell_Brand_prank_calls_row), he had a picture of Stalin on his wall behind him, and no one cared. My question is: Are people just ignorant about Stalin, or do they just not care? I'm guessing the former.

Yeah, that kinda gets me confused too. Hitler was evil, but have dug up over millions of bodies Stalin has killed and are STILL finding more.

What is the correct definition of a communist? I can't give you a perfect definition, but a hardcore communist believes that all people should be equal no matter what. It is extremely different to capitalism, which believes that people work to move up in the world. Also, in communism all property is owned by the state, and it is extremely left wing. Many people have the view that, in theory communism is great, but in practice it is a bad idea.

Thanks. I thought it was when everbody got paid the same amount of money no matter what job they do.
I do not understand why it gets such a bad rap.

^Everybody is paid the same amount because everybody is equal. They're not though, but whatever. Hitler is more hated because he systematically wiped out the vast majority of the Jewish population in Europ simply because they were Jews. Stalin killed people because they were his political enemies (real or imagined). Killing one's political enemies is acceptable behavior for a dictator. Genocide is not.

Hulkie, I swear that everyone is paid the same minus the dictator...?

Hulkie, I swear that everyone is paid the same minus the dictator...? I'm not disputing that. I'm saying that not everyone is equal.

Of course. That's where communism fails. But in the ideal, they are.

communism was a great idea that couldn't be done well.
I guarentee in a few hundred years Hitler won't be thought of as such a tyrant like he is now, take Gengis Khan(sp?)

I don't care what anyone says, Hitler's reign was a necessary evil in the history of the world.

I don't care what anyone says, Hitler's reign was a necessary evil in the history of the world. How so? I'm not saying what he did was morally right, I'm not defending him, but in all seriousness, what happened in WWII changed the world as we know it. It might have changed things for the better, or the worse, who knows but the fact remains that a lot of things for America wouldn't have happened for this country without us being in the war and without Hitler doing what he did that caused America to get involved.

So we do not know if it was "necessary"

Communism gets a bad rap because every country that has ever called itself a Communist state has been a Fascist dictatorship... which is pretty much the polar opposite of true Marxist Communism.

In theory, according to Marx (leaving the Communist leaders out) Communism in itself is a good thing. There is no class divisions and inequalities like their are with Capitalism. Everyone gets what they need and therefore should not want more than their "fair share".
Now yes, the reason why Hitler is looked at being worse than Stalin is a few factors. For one the way that WWII is taught to students has a lot to do with their perception. Another reason is there is a vast difference in killing your political enemies and people you think are out to get you because of your paranoia and killing anyone who is Jewish, homosexual, or a gypsy because you want to create a perfect race of man. Stalin was killing those who thought were out to get him. Hitler was killing whoever did not fit into his ideal race, even though he himself was not exactly his dream candidate for the Aryan Nation.

Communism might work, if people weren't greedy. We haven't evolved enough as a species or society for something like that to work.
