WCW: A NEW ERA IN SPORTS ENTERTAINMENTWCW.comWell ladies and gentlemen, today is a beautiful Sunday here in Atlanta, Georgia and I have had the honor of being invited to a WCW press conference in which I will meet various WCW superstars like Bill Goldberg and finally meet Eric Bischoff. In actual fact, this press conference has been planned for the last month or so, but I planned to keep it secret and confidential just to suprise you. World Championship Wrestling is the leading wrestling promotion in the world today and boasts a lot of household superstars as well as the more experienced superstars. Though, recently it has been based more towards the veterans in this company. WCW in the past has really groomed some fine performers from Ric Flair (even though that was in WCW's former parent company, the National Wrestling Alliance as well as Sting. But today marks a change in pro wrestling history as WCW will be changing his style and its common style as it is officially ready to move forward into the upcoming new millenium that is 2000. WCW are planning a massive change in superstars, production values and even the staff members. WCW want to become an organised company, like their rival, the World Wrestling Federation. Chris Jericho told me in an interview last year and I quote... I was told last Fall to go out to the ring and fight Bill Goldberg, but Eric Bischoff told me it'd be a big suprise and that it was actually a midget called 'Dwarfberg'. I thought this was a part of a program (I thought it was WCW finally giving me an opportunity) and so I got the crowd all hyped up, making fun of Goldberg yet when I next met Bill, he acted like a complete jackass, making me look like a complete jackass because of Eric Bischoff being a jackass and not telling Bischoff about our storyline. And the storyline was just randomly cut off before we got in the ring with one-another. That's how sloppy WCW staff are in the booking room and how people are in the backstage area, away from cameras.I was overwhelmed by this, as I personally loved that storyline but felt shot with rage that WCW bookers had just simply killed it right there and then. But back on topic. Eric Bischoff came out to the podium as there was about 50 to 75 people seated (along with me), everybody writing down notes in their little frilly notebooks, probably for the dirtsheets and whatnot. Anyways, Bischoff said that it was time to move away from the past as the future was where all of the potential lied. Bischoff announced that from now on, WCW would be stepping into the new millenium with more focus on their younger stars, the Chris Benoits, the Chris Jerichos and the cruiserweights. Bischoff told us that WCW Monday Nitro and WCW Thunder would have advanced set-ups, unlike the small sets they have currently (look at the size comparison between the Nitro set and the ring), there'd be bigger rings (they randomly changed the ringsize late last year, the rings used to be large, now it takes two steps for Goldberg to Spear somebody), better booking, everything would change and there'd be some major spring cleaning to try and groom WCW into having the purest talent in the world. Bischoff unveiled the logo as well as informing us that he'd be dropping WCW Saturday Night after the 27th February 1999 episode. Bischoff promised us that they'd also try and gain some risk and backstory to their product, and attempt to get a little bit more graphic (currently, a simple minor cut via blading job is a sin to the Turner Network Television executives) and attempt to cut back on promos for non-wrestling stuff. He finished off by saying that WCW Starrcade would be held from the Georgia Dome here in Atlanta and will be the biggest event WCW has ever staged.
why'd you make another thread?
anyway the ppv card is stacked man. pulling for Hart to win the title. Bulldog/Page looks interesting, i predict bulldog retaining. Never can get tired of Benoit/Jericho matches should be excellent. Not so sure about Flair/Savage, match has been done to death in the past and neither are getting younger. I see Flair winning this one though. oh yeah and push Raven plz..

Good Nitro card. The six man tag and the RVD/Bagwell really stick out for me.

I'm interested in seeing what big changes you have coming. Nitro looks like a decent show, although the main event isn't exactly going to be a great wrestling match. Jericho/ Malenko should be great though, and the Superbrawl card is looking packed.

Live on TNT Tampa, Florida Monday 15th February 1999- A new WCW 'signature' appears, sort of like WWF's stupid opening video that airs at the beginning of every single show promoting itself and its Attitude Era. It simply features the WCW logo panning from the left on top of a space-style background with a funny sound effect in the background.
- Finally, we have a new WCW Monday Nitro opening video package. Instead of a blazing city, it features the WCW logo with Nitro Girls dancing around it in beat to some nice yet retro-ish rave music. It features very quick shots of WCW superstars hitting their patented moves on somebody else, from Bill Goldberg to El Dandy, believe it or not.
- It ends as pyrotechnics go off and the crowd are pretty damn loud, here in Tampa, Florida. The stage is a massive version of the aforementioned new WCW logo, the entrance-way being inbetween the 'C'. The announcers are actually at ringside, thank god. Rather than being dumped on a stand in the audience they've gone all WWF'ed out. Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan and Mike Tenay are our announcers for WCW Monday Nitro as they put over the new era in this sport (Schiavone exaggeration strike #1). They put over the card.
- A video package of the recent events play, hyping up our main event as Eric Bischoff vs David Flair was made for WCW Superbrawl IX then turned into a no holds barred match. And recently on WCW Thunder, Bischoff put the match on for tonight's Monday Nitro, where David had to win otherwise he'd have to retire.
- We see a limousine out in the parking lot as the announcers look confused to see Scott Hall climb out of the audience, the nWo Wolfpack shirt, Kevin Nash gave him on WCW Thunder in his hand as he makes his way through the parking lot on his own, to a suprisingly loud reaction. A face turn, perhaps? Anyways, his nWo theme plays, getting some boos in to the mix as Hall himself walks through the backstage area, coming out to the arena to get a massive pop from the audience. Hall taunts, getting some more cheers than boos as he walks down the unique rampway and climbs into the ring. Hall gets a small 'Wolfpack' chant, Scott still holding the nWo Wolfpack shirt in his hand like a towel. Hall does his 'hey yo' bit as well as the survey for Tampa, however he mentions nWo Wolfpack, and THEN nWo V2. Hall goes through what struck him last Thursday on WCW Thunder when Kevin Nash got into his head and reminded him that he's in a dead end faction with nWo V2. Hall cuts a nice promo about this but is eventually cut off by Eric Bischoff making his way down to the ring. Bischoff climbs into the ring, an nWo shirt in hand as he convinces Hall to stay, saying that when Bret Hart delivers the WCW World Heavyweight Championship to nWo V2, Hall has the first opportunity. Hall is given the shirt as Bischoff leaves, telling Hall it is up to him. Scott looks at both shirts before throwing the Wolfpack shirt down first to boos. Then dumps the nWo shirt down as well, to a massive pop. Hall announces that he will make his decision this Sunday at WCW Superbrawl IX!
- Commercials.
- An advertisement for WCW Superbrawl IX airs.
- We return from the commercial break as the announcers, Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan and Mike Tenay put over the route that Booker T has taken to get to the WCW World Television Championship, and this Sunday he will finally get his shot at that very title against Scott Steiner. A Booker T video package airs, viewing all of his successful defenses from when he was WCW World Television Champion back in 1998.
- Rob Van Dam defeated Buff Bagwell by Count-Out. (8:59)
This was a great contest in which both men put in their all and tried to pull together a great match. I believe this is Buff Bagwell's first match back since his loss to Booker T back at WCW Souled Out, Bagwell was sidelined with groin injury which was thought to be dangerous but was only minor and required some rest. RVD did some drastic kicks in this one as Bagwell took the slower path, eventually hitting some nice moves, watching his groin however in case it was re-injured, this time severely cortesy of RVD. Van Dam was worked over but Rob Van Dam eventually dodged the Blockbuster before knocking Bagwell down through the ropes. Bagwell sold the fall too much and acted hurt, holding his groin and cowardly heading up the aisle as the referee counted to ten. 81/100 [/li][li] Mean Gene Okerlund attempted to get a word with Buff Bagwell over what we just saw but Bagwell was just simply in too much pain, bragging how he'd be able to beat Rob Van Dam on any day, though at the moment his groin was in major pain and needed to see that foxy nurse, Stacy Hancock. [/li][li] The NJPW video package of Jushin Thunder Liger plays, hyping his WCW World Cruiserweight Championship match for this Sunday at WCW Superbrawl IX with champion, Billy Kidman. [/li][li] Commercials. [/li][li] Mona defeated Sable in a WCW World Womens Championship Tournament Semi-Final. (05:03) Another dreadful match for Sable in her second match in World Championship Wrestling. Shame, I heard she was paid more than Juventud Guerrera and Psychosis to come join WCW with a 3-year, $300,000 per annum contract. Anyways, at least she plays a good heel. Mona dragged this match above the lowest a rating can get, plus the audience really cared for this one, more than the Rob Van Dam vs Buff Bagwell match, to be honest. Sable cocked up her Sablecanrana, which used to be impressive really. Sable's Sable Bomb was reversed into a spot-on hurricanrana however, which was highlight of the match. That scored the three count. 51/100 [/li][li] A limousine pulls up outside of the arena as WCW President, Eric Bischoff is seen standing nearby, dressed in his karate attire as Bret Hart steps out, Bischoff tells Bret about Scott Hall's decision and that he will make one this Sunday at WCW Superbrawl IX. Hart warns Bischoff that Hall better not get in his way of victory, otherwise there'll be some major consequences. [/li][li] Lance Storm and The New Jersey Triad defeated Billy Kidman, Juventud Guerrera and Psychosis after Storm pinned Psychosis. (11:28) This was a great contest here between six talented athletes (yes, I am calling Bam Bam Bigelow an athlete) and they pulled together a great, lengthy contest which involved a lot of traded momentum, back-and-forth action. Weird, since Bam Bam Bigelow and Kanyon are heavyweights, teaming with a cruiserweights against three other cruiserweights. Lance Storm got a decent amount of heat, probably because he came out to 'O Canada'. Cheap heat, utterly cheap heat. Billy Kidman and Lance Storm started, Kidman went on an outburst of speed before tagging in Juventud Guerrera. Kanyon got in and worked over the neck of Juvi, Bam Bam Bam Bigelow finally going after the neck, setting up a Diving Headbutt from the top rope. Juvi moved however, and Psychosis got the tag. He hit a spot-on Guillotine Legdrop on Bigelow but Storm got a blind tag in before rushing in and kicking Psychosis out of his misery for the win. 87/100 [/li][li] We cut to the backstage area where Chris Jericho is being interviewed by Gene Okerlund as Okerlund asks Jericho if he's confident facing his opponent for this Sunday's pay-per-view, Chris Benoit but tonight facing his friend, Dean Malenko. Jericho talks cockily, saying how he managed to do that numerous times on pay-per-view last year, why shouldn't he tonight. Jericho used his name-calling style before waltsing off. [/li][li] Lex Luger defeated The Barbarian after the Torture Rack. (07:54) This was actually quite a decent match for both of these men. Their brawling styles equally worked quite well combined as both of these men had an enjoyable slugfest as Luger was pretty over. Barbarian had some nice bit of offense in over Luger as well, as he just began to pound away at Luger and choke him out with a deadly-looking vice grip. Luger eventually broke out however, and he did a nice dropkick to Barbarian. Luger does dropkicks as good as he did years ago, too. Jimmy Hart tried to get involved in the contest but it didn't really work out as Luger choked him off of the apron with his own tie before applying the Torture Rack on Barbarian for the victory. 77/100 [/li][li] As Lex Luger began to celebrate, Jimmy Hart helped The Barbarian out of the ring, through the bottom rope as Hart waved on from the backstage area, Meng rushing down the ramp. Luger gave him a hiptoss before clotheslining him over the top rope. Jerry Flynn came out with a crowbar, but Luger tossed him over the top rope, too. Hugh Morrus then came from behind with a blow to the back of the head but Luger no-sold and the two stared each other down. [/li][li] Commercials. [/li][li] Dean Malenko defeated Chris Jericho by Disqualification. (12:24) These two men put on a wrestling clinic in that ring, here tonight on WCW Monday Nitro. Definately match of the night as both men just simply tried to outwrestle and overcome their opponent. This in my opinion overthrows their best match of WCW Uncensored 1998 if you ask me. Jericho did some awesome things in this contest that were just so devilish, he powerbombed Dean out to the floor, he applied the Liontamer on the WCW announcers' table at ringside, as well as tried to cut his privates in half over those ring barriers. Malenko eventually fought back however as he went to work on Jericho, doing some crazy chain-wrestling from start to finish. Malenko wanted to try and destroy Jericho, only six day before his encounter with Chris Benoit at WCW Superbrawl IX. Malenko hit his Tiger Bomb and almost got the three but unfortunately, Jericho sneakily got his foot on the bottom rope. Jericho then mocked Malenko, dropping the Liontamer midway through the submission hold by applying the Texas Cloverleaf on Malenko, and Jericho kept it applied as Dean had his hand on the bottom rope, the official calling for the bell. 97/100[/li][li] Commercials. [/li][li] Following commercials, Chris Jericho still had the Texas Cloverleaf applied on Malenko, though now in the center of the ring as referees attempted to break Malenko out of his own submission move. That's when Chris Benoit rushed down to the ring behind Jericho (Jericho, applying it with his back to the stage), and clunked Jericho over the head with a chair. Benoit then attended to his fallen friend, Dean Malenko. [/li][li] A hype for the next Nitro Party airs. [/li][li] A reminder of dates and upcoming events for future WCW shows. [/li][li] It is 10:40 as Michael Buffer comes out to hype up the main event. David Flair is introduced first, no sign of his father, Ric in sight. Eric Bischoff is then seen, who interrupts Buffer and boasts that people wanted to see him whip the son of Ric Flair's ass out of professional wrestling. Bischoff then bragged about how he beat his father Ric at WCW Souled Out, so he didn't need to beat David. Bischoff also includes that he won back the position as WCW President when he beat Flair, ordering Michael Buffer to introduce Macho Man Randy Savage as David's opponent with all interference barred as well as there being no rules. [/li][li] Macho Man Randy Savage defeated David Flair in a no holds barred retirement match. (10:17). This was, as expected, not really a great contest and it is pretty damn obvious that Savage is extremely past his prime, shame as he had some awesome matches back in the days of WWF in 1992 against Ric Flair, shame since their match at WCW Superbrawl IX will not live up to expectations. Savage simply battered David, but the youngster just kept getting up, again and again. Here's something I like about this new era WCW is going through - there's blood on a TV again! David was cut open from a chairshot cortesy of Savage and after all this, David took down Savage, threw him outside of the ring before battling him up the aisle. Flair nailed Savage with a steel chair before taunting Savage to the crowd, the loudest ovation David has ever got. He applied the Figure-Four Leglock tightly on Savage's broken down legs but Bret Hart took out David out of nowhere! Hart delivered a harsh Piledriver onto David on the rampway before helping Savage up. That's when Ric Flair came out and sucker punched Bret, going after Randy Savage himself, six days short of their match at WCW Superbrawl IX, but Diamond Dallas Page made sure he didn't do anything too drastic. Meanwhile, Savage covered the bloody David and that was it! Game over, Davey! 66/100 [/li][li] The theme of the nWo played again before being cut off by the arrival of WCW US Heavyweight & WCW World Heavyweight Champion, British Bulldog & Kevin Nash! Nash and Bulldog cleared house, taking down everybody as Scott Hall appeared on the rampway. Nash smiled at Hall who was still undecided on whether he'd go to nWo V2 or the nWo Wolfpack as Nash delivered the Jackknife Powerbomb on his opponent for this Sunday, Bret Hart! Hall left as Ric Flair helped up his son, David, who shoved Ric away, walking away to the back as WCW Monday Nitro went off the air. [/li][li] OVERALL SHOW RATING: 77/100[/li][/ul]

Good to see a show coming out of you since it's been a little while. I like the new opening and what not to attempt to give the show a different feel. The Hall drama is interesting, and saving the decision for PPV makes sense. Funny tidbit with Bagwell wanting to see STacy. I understand Mona winning, although I couldn't see Sable jobbing that quickly into coming to WCW. Mona-Lita sounds like a good match though. Glad the heels won that six-man tag. Weird stuff going on there with Luger. Malenko-Jericho sounded like a great match, and glad nobody looked bad. Good ending to Nitro with lots of things going on. Nice touch there at the end with David shoving Ric. Can't wait for Superbrawl. I like what you are doing overall with having people like Hardyz, Sable, Lita, etc come and changing the attitude of the company.

- Hmm. Having Bischoff/Flair on the Nitro before the PPV seems a little odd. I would think you’d be able to hold off from using the match for the PPV itself. - I liked the opening segment with Hall and Bischoff. Having him make his decision at the PPV is a nice touch. - Bagwell as a cowardly heel is alright I guess. Good to have him play up his injured groin. I could see you using that angle for awhile. - I really like having Mona beating Sable. Mona is/was a great women’s wrestler. - Six man tag match was OK. Would have liked Bigelow or Kanyon getting the pin over Juventud or Psicosis to get some clear advantage heading into the PPV. - Luger/Barbarian seemed to be on the card awfully late on the show. Never really liked Luger, really didn’t care for the match. I don’t know about making the First Family, if that’s what your calling them, out to make look weak. I do like a possible Morrus/Luger feud, though. - Hmm. Didn’t really like the finish for Jericho/Malenko. Looked like a solid match but the finish while realistic just didn’t work for me. Jericho having the move on for several minutes even after the commercial was slightly ridiculous. I would think Benoit would run down soon then he did to help Malenko. - Liked the interference for the main event to continue to hype up for some matches on the PPV.
- Overall, seemed really just average show for me. A good way to promote your stacked Super Brawl card, which I’m really looking forward to.

Another good show DTP. Like that you changed up the format to go with the changing of the show's logo's and what not. Liked the Hall segmant. At first i thought he would go solo. Hopefully he goes with Wolfpac, I would like tosee a face Scott Hall. Suprised Sable didn't win tbh. I thought she would win the whole tournament. RVD/Bagwell looked ok. Wish RVD would've won clean. Malenko/Jericho looked really good. Main Event looked meh. I still don't buy David as a wrestler. A really solid show though DTP and I'm seeing aot of changes in WCW which is a good thing, can't wait to see more.

I'm liking what your doing with Hall, it's certainly interesting. I'm hoping he goes solo, and gets a face run. I like that Van Dam got the win, although I'm not so convinced with Bagwell, he just seems a bit of a loser to me. I really am not convinced with Sable, I don't get why you brought her in, at least she didn't get the win. The six man tag match was good, but I found it hard to get interested in it. I'm surprised Luger/ Barbarian got such a good rating, but it sounded quite good. Jericho/ Malenko sounded amazing, and I would love to see another match between the two down the line. Jericho/ Benoit is looking like it will be a classic. I like that Bischoff brought in Randy to get the job done. I'm not overly fussed on David Flair, so I hope he's actually gone.

Superbrawl is looking great. Before I address the card, I wanted to add that this is awesome, how you expanded it to two threads is remarkable. I appreciate your effort and you are putting on a good example of what I spotlight should be. Now, on to Superbrawl 9. I hope Hart takes the belt from Nash, since I've never really been a fan of Nash and definitely not in this diary. I hope that retirement match goes to some double draw, so both can retire. ugh ha. Interesting tag team match, happy to see Juvi/Psychosis getting a proper push together DTP. I KNOW Jericho/Benoit will be awesome and I hope you give it a right amount of time. Card looks good man, I will be reading and NOW DEFINITELY REPLYING. HOLD ME TO IT!

WRESTLE-NET NEWS CORNER WITH DANIEL PETERSON Wednesday 17th February 1999
- WCW Monday Nitro scored a 5.44 rating from TNT whereas WWF RAW is WAR received a 4.96 rating from USA Network. WWF fails again.
- There are plans of replacing August's Road Wild with another pay-per-view. The problems with Road Wild is that there is no profit collected due to it taking place in the desert in Sturgis, North Dakota. Also, most of its audience were motorcycle anarchists who rev their engines during the match, making the production valus awful. I'll have more on its replacement in future news articles about World Championship Wrestling.
- Expect Sting's return to WCW to be provoked by Raven mocking Sting in some way at WCW Superbrawl IX this Sunday.
- Buff Bagwell's groin injury is obviously kayfabed as he has been given the ability to wrestle as much as he likes from doctors (before last night, the last time Bagwell wrestled was at WCW Souled Out, last month). This is to help evolve Bagwell's character to the showman kind of superstar who will do anything to avoid losing.
- Speaking of Buff Bagwell, him and Rob Van Dam are no longer on speaking conditions due to an encounter on last night's WCW Monday Nitro, as during their bout, Bagwell purposely made Rob Van Dam look ridiculous, probably due to Van Dam getting into WCW the hard way, going through ECW and whatnot.

- Interesting opening with Hall/Bischoff. I'm clearly a WolfPack fan myself so I'd like to see him join that as I'm not big on the nWo v2 anyway.
- Eh would have preferred Sable to get the win but ah well.
- Ya know I can actually see Barbarian and Luger having a decent slug fist style match. Good strong win for Luger over the underrated Barbarian.
- Of course EWR would eat up Jericho vs Malenko. Sounded like a great match though and I like the finish which led to Benoit making the save which helps build their match-up one final time.
So I guess I'll move along and make some predictions or desires for the results of the ppv. Would love if Hart became World Champion but I have doubts. Would like to see Savage win but that is doubtful as well. I would think the tag champs will retain while Bulldog doesn't though I'm not exactly sure what else can be done with him either way. And I expect Angelina to win this tournament.

On TBS Superstation Salt Lake City, Utah Thursday 18th February 1999 - A new WCW 'signature' appears, sort of like WWF's stupid opening video that airs at the beginning of every single show promoting itself and its Attitude Era. It simply features the WCW logo panning from the left on top of a space-style background with a funny sound effect in the background.
- Unlike WCW Monday Nitro, WCW Thunder is given the old theme song for it (which in my opinion is still as catchy as ever), but we were given a slight new look for it, actually showcasing some moves from the midcard squad, as well as one from Randy Savage. It ends with the Thunder logo you see above text. Not alot of difference, aside from the logo, huh.
- We go to the live arena though and man it is different. It resembles the old Monday Nitro set, the two big WCW blocks on either side as well as a new TurnerTron, as flashy as ever. And there's fve mini-trons beneath this tron, showing the same WCW Thunder logo, a blue door with 'WCW' written on. Our announcers are Bobby Heenan, Mike Tenay and Larry Zbyzko as they introduce us to the show, run down the card before hyping the main event as being Diamond Dallas Page taking on Hardcore Hak as well as a tag team showcase featuring Chris Benoit teaming with Dean Malenko to fight Chris Jericho and a mystery partner.
- We are in the live arena as Gene Okerlund takes position in the ring, hyping up and describing the nicknames of his interviewee, Ric Flair. Flair then comes out to a loud pop as he marches down the aisle, a suprisingly happy look on his face. Flair struts his way on into the ring through the ropes (Okerlund gives him a hand doing this), as Okerlund asks Ric why he's so cheery after his son, David was kicked out of WCW last Monday night on Nitro and when he has a big retirement match against Randy Savage coming up this Sunday at WCW Superbrawl IX. Flair woos, saying how he knows all of these bad thigns have happened but apparently, he's learnt from his aunt that when there's something important coming up, you've got to forget about all the woes in your life and stay motivated. Flair cuts a promo on Randy Savage, telling him he'd end his miserable career come Sunday night, stating that now he has nothing left to lose other than his career, but a whole lot to gain here in World Championship Wrestling. Flair began to walk towards the backstage area to another loud pop from this respecting audience as Okerlund hyped Flair vs Savage: The Final Encounter as did the announcers.

- Hugh Morrus defeated La Parka by pinfall. (7:29)
Suprisingly, this was quite a good encounter between two men who are not really at their prime much anymore. Morrus was great out in the ring as he was all about fist-fighting and brawling with the hooligan-of-a-luchadore. La Parka was suprisingly not as green as he usually is as Parka used his sneaky offense as well as adding some of his patented dance routines in as well. Morrus continuously cut him short however, as Morrus nailed Parka with a clothesline doing the La Parka Polka at one point. Morrus had Jimmy Hart at ringside with him as Hugh worked over La Parka's entire body, though mainly he went to work on his torso and neck of the chair-man. La Parka eventually regained momentum however, giving Morrus some nice clobbering blows before setting up for his patented La Parka Driver, but Morrus took him down and went up top, hitting the always-impressive No Laughing Matter for the win. 79/100 [/li][li] Hugh Morrus began to celebrate with his manager, Jimmy Hart after the match before deciding he wasn't done with La Parka. He mocked Lex Luger with his muscular poses before helping La Parka down, clotheslining him then picking him up again, getting a lot of heat stealing Lex Luger's own Torture Rack submission move. Lex Luger eventually made the save, fortunately, grabbing a hold of the little Jimmy Hart and dumping him onto Morrus with a gorilla press slam to the outside. [/li][li] A merchandising commercial is played, hyping that the nWo Wolfpack shirt is now available. [/li][li] Commercials. [/li][li] We cut to the rampway where Gene Okerlund was once again seen hyping up the interviewee but the familiar theme cut him off mid-sentence, the ever-arrogant, cocky Chris Jericho walking down the ramp in his shades, being interviewed right there on the aisle. Jericho lists his accomplishments over Dean Malenko as well as Chris Benoit, as Okerlund cut Jericho off (revenge, haha), asking him to just simply reveal his partner. Jericho called him 'perfect' (inside joke for former-WWF turned WCW fans), as an unfamiliar theme played, Curt Hennig walking down the aisle to join Jericho as Hennig announced that the Rednecks faction were what was dragging him down and so Jericho gave him a call and here he was, out there with Chris Jericho, as the two hyped up the match against Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko. [/li][li] Chris Jericho and Curt Hennig defeated Chris Benoit and Dean Malenko after Hennig pinned Malenko. (11:04) This was an absolutely superb match here between two teams of probably the purest of talent WCW has got to offer in this dage and age. These two teams meshed in very well, Chris Jericho and Curt Hennig should really work together more often, they just ruled all in this match, their double-team moves and arsenal were just spot-on and everything in this match was perfectly timed. The crowd also loved it as the four men fought simply because its all about the winning that counts, which is obviously the case nowadays, but it mattered alot more in the days of Ric Flair and Harley Race. And to a lesser extent, Dusty Rhodes. Jericho and Benoti focused always on themselves as Hennig would always go to start off with Malenko or go after Benoit when he had a hold of Jericho. By the end of the match, Chris Benoit and Chris Jericho were brawling at ringside as Hennig got out of the Texas Cloverleaf and hit the Hennig-Plex for the win. Benoit almost broke it up but was too late. 95/100[/li][li] As Chris Jericho and Curt Hennig headed towards the back in celebration, there was some muttering as Gene Okerlund hyped WCW Superbrawl IX more, Sable coming out to a loud reaction, wearing quite the revealing kitty attire. Sable climbed into the ring, the announcers going ga-ga over her as Gene Okerlund walked into the ring and asked Sable what she was doing out here when she wasn't even assigned a match, let alone tonight rather than WCW Superbrawl IX. Sable told Okerlund to shove his microphone where the sun don't shine because she asked to be added into the WCW World Womens Championship match at WCW Superbrawl IX, making it a triple threat match now. Sable rams the microphone into Gene's chest as the announcers laugh at Okerlund not being the one wearing the pants in that very ring moments ago. [/li][li] Commercials. [/li][li] TAKA Michinoku defeated Chavo Guerrero Jr to contend for the WCW World Television Championship (09:52) Phenomenal is the only word that can describe this match. Two awesome stars from outside of the Untied States of America as these two tore up the house. Got to be the match of the night and probably and narrowly the match of the week (Chris Jericho vs Dean Malenko on WCW Monday Nitro came damn close). The two men fought to little reaction, it reminded me like I was watching old New Japan wrestling. There was little reaction but man it was sweet and intense. Unfortunately, the audience went on to muttering amongst themselves as well as going to the public bathrooms to empty the fluids from their ugly crotches, those people missed out. Chain-wrestling? Had it. Aerial attacks? In this match. Hard-hitting moves? Watch this damn match, it had everything. The winner of this match would contend to be able to face WCW World Television Champion, no matter whom it be next Monday on WCW Monday Nitro. Michinoku Driver got the win for TAKA. 100/100 PERFECT [/li][li] TAKA Michinoku began to celebrate, the announcers just putting over WCW Superbrawl IX. [/li][li] The WCW/nWo Bruise Cruse. May 21st-24th. An advertisement for WCW Superbrawl IX airs, followed by a list of upcoming events. [/li][li] Blitzkrieg defeated Trent Acid by pinfall. (04:24) Quite a decent bout here though it pretty much served as a way to get Blitzkrieg over as he took on NWA-Wildside enhancement talent, Trent Acid who has recently worked in what some people call 'artificial ECW'. I consider CZW better than XPW anyways. This was pretty much all Blitzkrieg. Trent got some punches in and hit a smooth hurricanrana but Blitzkrieg controlled with his high-flying incredible offense. The Stardust Press got him the victory. 73/100 [/li][li] A hype video for Lance Storm is seen, despite him debuting on WCW Monday Nitro. [/li][li] An advertisement for WCW Saturday Night airs, Disco Inferno will be in action taking on Steven Regal plus Booker T vs Wrath. [/li][li] We cut to a video package highlighting the Raven/Hardcore Hak rivalry, noting all of Raven's accusations of Hak's bullying leading him to turn into the dark goon he is now. Pretty good promo, shocking since WCW are known for the worst and or cheesiest videos ever. [/li][li] Commercials. [/li][li] Rey Mysterio Jr and Konnan defeated Los Vilanos after Mysterio pinned Vilano V. (04:00) This, like Trent Acid vs Blitzkrieg, was a mere test to show us that Konnan and Rey Mysterio Jr could work well together as a team. It succeeded as these two men destroyed Los Vilanos, though the timing of the match didn't seem it. This was all Mysterio and Konnan as Konnan handled the brawling, Mysterio taking all of the airborne things. Konnan did his intriguing rolling lariat he does to a nice pop. Mysterio Jr was so over here. They should market his masks, really should. Mysterio's Frankensteiner on Vilano V got Mysterio and Konnan the win. 76/100 [/li][li] Hype for WCW Thunder game. Whatev. [/li][li] Commercials. [/li][li] Diamond Dallas Page defeated Hardcore Hak by pinfall. (9:50) The result of this match was predictable though it was far from one-sided as both men battled to no end, both men definately wanting to pin and win this match, getting in one last bit of momentum before WCW Superbrawl IX, an important pay-per-view event for both superstars. But they fought like there was nothing to live for, just simple brawling back-and-forth, inside-and-out of the ring. So unpredictable and I think this gave Hak some personality and showed he was more than a kendo stick-lover and actually used more moves than a russian legsweep in the ring. DDP tried his Diamond Cutter numerous time but unfortunately, Hak always reversed it, and eventually hit the Russian Legsweep but someone slammed a kendo stick into Sandman's head from under the ring without the referee's acknoledgement, Hak being hit by a Diamond Cutter for the win. 93/100 [/li][li] Diamond Dallas Page began celebrating as Raven came from under the ring, kendo stick in hand and a malicious smile on his face. DDP then notices British Bulldog, his opponent for WCW Superbrawl IX staring him down from the rampway as WCW Thunder goes off the air.[/li][/ul]

Great opening promo hyping up Flair/Savage. Opening match seemed interesting due to the size difference. I liked the idea of mocking Luger after the match. Jericho & Henning make for an awesome team. Taka-Chavo sounded good although I'm not sure if they could have that amazing of a match. Still waiting for Krieg to do something. Glad Rey & Konnan picked up the W in their match. Surprised Hak jobbed like that, but it's understandable because it's against DDP. Good show, and Superbrawl is looking great.
