Whats your opinion on the Sega saturn? I know it has nights, but they have that on Wii now. I never saw one in person. I knew a guy who was gonna get one, but he got an N64 instead. And that was pretty smart, yes? What games did it have? How was it technically? Why did it flat out fail? and why is it so expensive on ebay these days?
I thought it'd be a nice retro piece, but for the prices Ive seen it seems like a ripoff for a technically inferior faliure system. and I dont trust used CDs.

The NiGHTS on the Wii is a sequel to the Saturn original, and the original was one of the most impressive games of it's time not on graphics or anything, but the total sense of flying it delivered. It came packaged with it's own controller with an analog stick, which really set the pace for future consoles.
Most people are buying a Saturn for it's best game available, and that's the Panzer Dragoon games. They were and still are examples of excellent game design and are HIGHLY sought after. It also has a rather sought after port of the original Resident Evil with a new mini game in it.

The only reason you need in order to want a Saturn.

Saturn was a really underrated system that never quite caught on here in the states however, it has so many great classic games on it. I have just recently started collecting Saturn games.
Guardian Heroes Panzer Dragoon Panzer Dragoon Zwei Panzer Dragoon Saga NiGHTS into Dreams Fighters Megamix Burning Rangers Dragon Force Shining Force III Die Hard Arcade Astal
These represent some of the greatest Saturn games although there are a few others as well, these are the must-haves for the system.

I never got into the Panzer Dragoon games, and seeing how much they're going for on eBay makes me very happy about that. I haven't played the one I bought awhile ago in a while, but I think it may be about time to dust it off and play some Guardian Heroes.
HWAH!

Fighters Megamix was awesome for one particular reason: You can fight as the ing car from Daytona.

I love Sega Saturn, I always still play it. If you ask me the Saturn is one of the underrated game systems (At least comparing it to the original Playstation & N64), the Saturn had a lot of good games. I love the Saturn for all the awesome fighting games they had, not to mention games like NiGHTS Into Dreams, Virtua Fighter 2, Bug!, Bug!2, Virtua Cop 1/2, 3 Dirty Dwarves, Sonic 3D Blast... I've also been playing Megaman X4 for Saturn.... but it was also for Playstation, so I would not really count it as a Saturn only game... I need to purchase Fighters Megamix on eBay or hopefully get lucky and run into at a used game store... in my opinion has to be one of the best fighting games...
Game Gear, I personally don't think it would be worth getting now, I have one, and never play it, haven't played it in years, I also hate the fact it takes like 8 double A's to get the thing working...
Sega CD, was nice add-on to the Sega Genesis, I don't know how hard they are to find/ or how much it would cost, but I'm guessing they can't be to cheap. My favorite game for the Sega CD had to be Sonic CD.
Sega 32, was really nothing special....Really not to many good games for the 32x, but if I remember right for RAW on 32x you could play as Kwang, but other then that, I don't think it's anything special.
Super Nintendo was a great game system, with a lot of good games, way to many to name, but some of my favorites were Breath Of Fire 2, Mario All-Stars, Star Fox, WWF Royal Rumble, RAW, Mario RPG, Yoshi's Island, Kriby's All Stars(or something like that), Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong2, Donkey Kong 3, and Earthbound. Virtual Boy was probably one of the worst gaming systems in my opinion that Nintendo released... I played it once, it never wanted to play it again... I believe I played Wario for it, and it was just nothing special, and I think it came out just a couple of months (or maybe a year) before the Nintendo 64 came out...
Dreamcast, like the Saturn was great. Shenmue had to be my favorite game for the Dreamcast...

Holy sh*t! Saga down here sells for at least over $100 ( AUD ) the Seller got ripped hard lucky find there The Saturn is a great console, I had more fun on it than on my Playstation, the Saturn is indeed the most underrated console in the 32-Bit Era, sure there was also alot of crap on it but there were heaps of great games it had to offer, To me it had the best Fighting games on the System ( Games like Virtua Fighter 2, Fighters Megamix, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Dead or Alive, Marvel vs Capcom, Street Fighter Alpha.. list goes on... ), The Platformer games were alright, NiGHTS is a f*cking classic game and same went for Burning Rangers aswell. I reckon if Sega didn't rush the system it would have turned out right, Sega was so focused on keeping the Megadrive alive that they forgot about the up and coming 32-Bit Era, I mean the 32X had come out around 6 Months - Year before the Saturn?, Sega should have stopped with the Megadrive around early 93 at most and should have let the 3rd Party Developers kept on giving the system life while they were hard at work on the Saturn. The Saturn was a b*tch to make games on, and alot of Developers soon turned over to Sony's Playstation because it was way easier to make games for it, and they knew that the Playstation was going to have a large audience so everyone ditched it until it finally died in 98. The Console may have had a short lifespan, but unlike most systems that did, the Saturn actually had good games, which others didn't. At the moment I've got around 50 or so Saturn Games, I sold my AUS Model 1 Saturn to a workmate, Since my White Japanese Saturn has the Action Replay Max cart so I can still play my AUS/UK games ( Most of my Saturn games are Japanese ), The games come pretty cheap on eBay and you can find alot of great deals on there, I got a boxed copy of Fighters Megamix ( AUS ) for $10. If your looking to go back and play 32-Bit Era games I would really recommend the Saturn AND the Nintendo 64.

yeah..i'm really excited...I bid right away when he posted the auctions and all signs point to him being legit. Considering all 5 of those games are worth at the very least $40 bucks a piece all the way up to $150 for Panzer Dragoon Saga I just got an AWESOME deal. I can't wait to play these games!!

Sega Saturn was the first 3D console system I owned. Here are some of my favorites:
Clockwork Knight - nothing fantastic, but a nice little forgotten game.
Virtua Cop 2 - pretty fun game. Was very good for its time.
WWF In Your House -always preferred the Saturn version of this one.
Nights - probably the first game of the 3D era that I was totally blown away by.
Virtua Fighter 2 - come on, I'm not even into fighting games but this one is a classic.
House of the Dead - an arcade classic. One of my very favorites.
Astal - a side-scroller that deserves more praise.
Virtual On - great mech combat game.
Daytona USA - extremely fun racer, but it might not hold up up as well.
Bug - pretty neat game for its time.
So who else bought the Saturn when they had that 3 free game deal at TRU? That's how I winded up getting mine. It's too bad they didn't release a true Sonic sequel.

Does anybody remember the launch of the Saturn? It was the craziest thing ever. It just....came out. There was a launch date in September days before the Playstation launch, and then at E3, they said that it was all a ruse and that they were on sale that very minute. It should have been a brilliant strategy, but in typical Sega fashion....they ed it up....

Sega Saturn was awesome, I was very hyped when they announced it, and when they ed up the launch, I was immediately hating Sega, again. But some games like Virtua Fighter 2, NiGHTS, Panzer Saga, UMK3, Daytona USA are very fun to play for a parties, or solo playing. I just had my Saturn come in my mailbox today, to relive some memories. Oh, I also have a MIB Doom for Saturn, opened it, very good port of Doom 1 and 2. But they were ripped from the PSX version.
