Alright, maybe it's just that I really suck at these games, but considering that I'm really good at other games, I don't think that's the case. Yeah, yeah, I bet I'll get a bunch of predictable one-liner comments that say "yep you just suck", but I'd really like to know why I could never pass these games...
The only way I can beat MKII and III for SNES is if I have some kind of cheat/code. MKI I can beat in about 10 minutes on very hard using about 2 lives, but I can just not beat II and III unless I have a code. It's brutal that you're given only like 3 lives. For MKII, I can beat it eventually on medium if I have an infinite amount of lives. Otherwise, I'm screwed.
What's the deal? What's the secret?

I think with most older 2d beat em ups when I was a kid the way I would do it and still do now is just master one character at first. Once you can pretty much beat the CPU at will with your one character then you will find it easier to use other people. For MKII I would recomend Baraka IMO the easiest character to master and for MK3 Sub Zero as he has a real easy 6 hit combo that does some good damage.

Well for me Mk2 somewhat easier to beat with Lui Kang using the Low Fire ball attack on Motaro constantly untill he taunts I never actually attack and never use the Bicycle Kick or the Flying Kick untill he taunts other wise he'll catch you, and with Sub-Zero just freeze him and do as you please When he tauts Id use the slide.

I can beat MK 2 with either Raiden, Shang Tsung, or Sub Zero. Those threee I perfer to use. MK 3 I came close but the only one I did the best with in the game was Shang Tsung.

I could win with Noob Saibot simply by cheesing the teleport thing over and over.

Unless it was on easy, I could never beat MK I or II. I think I've only ever done it with cheat codes, never on my own really. For some reason, I found that after MK 3, the games got really simple to beat.

Was Sheeva in Mk2? I'm pretty sure I beat it with her. I just did her jump up and down thing over and over again. Twas' the only way I could win.

Yea. MK I is easy, I usually beat it on my first run through. MK II is f'n hard though, no doubt. I bought it for my new Sega Genesis recently, and god damn if I'm not having a hell of a time getting through it. I just bought a PS3, and MK II is available in the store. I'm actually going to buy it right now, and give it a another go.
I've beaten them all. I was an MK addict as a kid, and wouldn't quit until I was finished. Hell, Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter were my dad's favorites as well. We all (me, my brother, and my dad) used to do 'lose and pass the controller' tournaments. So much fun.

MK games aren't really hard to beat imo.

MK3 is pretty easy IMO, but I agree that MK2 is pretty much impossible to beat. I've played it on both emulators and on Midway Arcade Treasures on PSP, but never on the SNES or Mega Drive, or Arcade, so perhaps it's a bit easier with one of them.
However... There is a great programming error in MK2, I think you can do it with Reptile where you do an crouching uppercut and just keep doing it for the whole match and your opponent can't defend or fight back. In the boss levels this is harder to get right. I think this was corrected in later versions.
MK3 is pretty simple until you get up to Motaro, who has screwed me over more times than I care to mention.
MK1 is easy but the Arcade mode is really long even on Novice.

It was Shao Kahn that I always had a really problem with. I always went with either Liu Kang, Sub-Zero, or Johnny Cage. For some reason I was a big rain fan at the time as well. I really liked guys that had easy combos and special moves lol.
