WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT
FRIDAY NIGHT SMACKDOWN
(AIRDATE: DECEMBER 19 2003)
WWE logo appears on screen.
Footage from last weeks’ fatal four way is shown as is Finlay attacking Bret Hart. As the footage finishes the music of Bret Hart plays and he heads to the ring.
Bret: Finlay, I don’t know what your motives were for last week’s attack, but if it was about a title match in your warped mind that was the only to get one, then come on down because your opportunity to win this is right here and right now! Let’s go!
Finlay shows up and makes his way toward the ring. A referee runs out as well. Finlay jumps into the ring and the bell sounds.
J.R.: Looks like we have an impromptu match for the WWE Championship to kick off Smackdown. Hello again everyone I’m Jim Ross along with Jerry the King Lawler at ringside and the WWE Title is about to be decided.
WWE CHAMPIONSHIP
BRET “HIT MAN” HART © VS. FINLAY
Bret Hart nails Finlay as he enters the ring. Hart pounds on Finlay. Finlay fights back. Hart knocks Finlay down with a hard shot. Hart sends Finlay into the corner and rams him into the turnbuckle. He punches away and whips Finlay across and nails him with a clothesline. Hart delivers a suplex and forearms Finlay.
J.R.: Bret Hart is taking it to the challenger right out of the gate as retribution for Finlay’s unprovoked attack on the Champion one week ago.
Finlay shoves Bret into the corner and rams him with his shoulder and then nails him with a short clothesline. Finlay slams Hart down and drops down on the Hit Man with all his weight. Finlay punches away and hammers the Hit Man. Finlay nails Bret in the back and then connects with a boot to the side of the face. Finlay then tosses Bret through the ropes to the outside.
King: Looks like Finlay is looking to continue his assault from last week on the Hit Man here.
J.R.: Finlay is taking this to the floor, but remember you cannot win the WWE Title on the outside of the ring.
Hart grabs Finlay and pulls him out to the floor. Hart rams Finlay into the side of the ring and then pulls him up, but Finlay pushes Hart into the ring steps. Finlay slams the Hit Man on the floor and then pushes him back in and rolls back in himself to break the referee’s count. Finlay then drapes the Hit Man on the apron and Finlay leaps off, but Hart moves and Finlay crashes to the floor. Hart then sails through the ropes diving out onto Finlay.
J.R.: Oh what a scintillating maneuver by Bret Hart on the Irishman. Bret Hart certainly wants leave here still WWE Champion and go on to his title defense against Brock Lesnar at the Royal Rumble.
The Hit Man goes for a piledriver on the floor, but Finlay blocks it. Hart hammers Finlay and then nails him with a dropkick and pushes him back into the ring. Hart delivers a back breaker and gets a near fall.
King: These guys have been concentrating so much on beating the crap out of each other, that we only now have just seen the first pinfall attempt in the match.
Hart delivers an uppercut and then drops the leg for a two count. Hart connects on a suplex and drills Finlay with an elbow off the middle rope for another near fall. Hart sends Finlay in and nails him with a shot to the gut and delivers a side Russian leg sweep for a near fall. Hart sends Finlay in again, but this time he reverses it. Finlay nails Hart with a head-butt to the mid section coming off the ropes and then plants him with a DDT. Finlay makes the cover, but Hart gets a shoulder up. Finlay drops the Hit Man across the top rope and then nails him with an elbow for another near fall. Finlay attempts the Celtic Cross, but Hart goes all the way over and rolls him up for a near fall. Hart delivers an inverted atomic drop and goes for the Sharp Shooter, but Finlay pushes him off. Finlay then clotheslines the Hit Man up and over to the outside. Finlay follows out and rams Hart into the ringside barrier. Finlay pushes Hart back into the ring. Finlay delivers a double stomp to the Hit Man and then sends him to the corner. Hart stops himself in the corner and then moves as Finlay charges in. Hart delivers a bulldog out of the corner. Finlay fires back with knees and then a head-butt. Finlay climbs up to the top rope. Hart gets to his feet and nails Finlay and slams him down to the canvas. Hart goes to the top and comes off with a cross body for a near fall. Brock Lesnar runs out.
J.R.: Uh oh I think business is about to pick up.
Brock Lesnar jumps into the ring and attacks Finlay. The referee calls for the bell and Lesnar takes off to the back.
King: What in the world was that all about J.R.?
J.R.: Well King Lesnar’s interference just cost Bret Hart the match, but only on a disqualification which means the Hit Man does not lose the WWE Title and Brock Lesnar does not lose his title opportunity. Right now I believe Torrie Wilson is in back trying to get a word with Brock Lesnar.
Torrie Wilson follows Lesnar through the back of the arena trying to catch up with him, but he avoids her and keeps on going.
J.R.: Well I guess we are not going to get that interview, but still to come tonight we have a huge six man tag team match as Rick Martel, Rene Dupree, and the Mountie join forces to take on Rey Mysterio, Val Venis, and Rob Van Dam. Plus Mark Henry goes one-on-one with Goldberg and up next it will be Johnny Nitro of MNM taking on Goldust. We have a huge night ahead. Don’t go away!

In the back Edge is walking through the hall and Sylvan Grenier follows behind.
Sylvan: Hey Edge wait up.
Edge: What do you want Sylvan?
Sylvan: I just want to tell you I think you are making a huge mistake.
Edge: What are you talking about?
Sylvan: With Mr. McMahon. You shouldn’t cross the boss. You are blowing it. But I guess that’s what happens to ordinary Canadians who don’t speak French.
Edge: You know Sylvan I don’t need to speak French to know that not crossing the boss hasn’t kept you from being sucktacular. You Sylvan, suck in any language. In fact why don’t you and I step into the ring tonight and I’ll show you just how much you suck.
Sylvan: You’re on Edge, but it will be you who does all the sucking.
J.R.: Well King it looks like Edge and Sylvan Grenier will be competing here tonight, but right now let’s go back to the Brother Love Show from one week ago in which Goldust was recipient of a beat down at the hands of MNM.
GOLDUST VS. JOHNNY NITRO
Goldust and Nitro lock up. Nitro goes for the side headlock, but Goldust lifts him up, only Nitro goes over and rolls him up for a one count. Nitro nails Goldust with forearm shots and Goldust punches back. Goldust knocks Nitro down and plants a fist. Goldust nails Nitro with an uppercut and goes to the ropes, but Nitro nails him with a dropkick.
King: That was a perfectly timed dropkick that caught Goldust. This Nitro is a tremendous athlete and well Melina is just tremendous to look at.
J.R.: Don’t forget Mercury on the outside of the ring as well. This is essentially a three-on-one handicap match in my view.
Nitro connects with several high elbows using the ropes for momentum. Nitro covers Goldust, but he kicks out. Nitro tries to ram Goldust into the turnbuckle, but he blocks it and rams Nitro in. He hiplocks Nitro out of the corner and follows up with an elbow. Goldust connects with a clothesline and gets a near fall. Goldust sends him in, but Nitro reverses. Nitro leap frogs over, but Goldust comes back and kicks him and nails him with a clothesline. Goldust goes for the Curtain Call, but Nitro knees Goldust and then hooks him and jumps out over the top snapping him off the rope.
J.R.: Shades of the Macho Man Randy Savage on that move by Nitro.
Nitro climbs back up and goes to the top and does a flip into a leg drop for a near fall. Nitro goes for a neck breaker, but Goldust hooks him into a back slide for a near fall. Goldust hooks a small package for another near fall. Goldust sends Nitro in and delivers the butt smash. Joey Mercury gets up on the ring apron, but Goldust greets him with a hard shot. Melina takes her turn getting up on the apron. Nitro charges at Goldust, but he moves. Nitro nearly collides with Melina, but he puts on the breaks. Goldust catches Nitro with a back suplex. Goldust makes a lewd gesture towards Melina, but gets a low blow from Nitro for his efforts. Nitro rolls up Goldust and gets the three count.
King: Goldust lost his concentration on the match turning his attention towards Melina and he paid for it.
Mercury and Melina enter the ring. Nitro and Mercury hold Goldust as Melina slaps him across the face. Goldust then is recipient of the Snap Shot as MNM celebrate.
Brock Lesnar is in the back with Ted DiBiase, the Big Show, and IRS.
Lesnar: What’s going on Ted? My title shot is at the Rumble and I don’t need anybody getting in my way.
Ted: Calm down Brock. Finlay is just doing what he’s paid to do. That is too soften up the Hit Man for your Rumble match. He wasn’t going to win the WWE Title and even if he did, you would still get the title shot. It’s win win for us and gives us that little bit of extra that we need to secure the WWE Title.
Lesnar: I don’t need any extra help or softening up of the Hit Man. I can beat him man-to-man. I beat him at Survivor Series and I will beat him for the title at the Royal Rumble.
Brock Lesnar storms out of the room.
Show: I don’t know why you put up with him, I really don’t.
Ted: Well Show, because making an enemy out of Brock Lesnar is not good business. Besides as long as he’s with us we’ve got the Tag Titles and soon the WWE Title.

Goldberg tries one more time, but this time Henry knocks him down to the mat. Goldberg gets back up and strikes Henry. He goes to the ropes, this time ducking under Henry, but getting caught in a power slam. Henry has the cover, but Goldberg kicks out.
J.R.: Running into Mark Henry is like running into a brick wall. He is after all the World’s Strongest Man.
Henry drops two elbows on Goldberg. He comes down for a third, but Goldberg moves. Goldberg rams Henry into the corner. He tries to send Henry across, but he holds the ropes. Henry sends Goldberg in and nails him with a boot. He nails him again and then drives a knee into Goldberg’s face. Henry scoops up Goldberg and plants him with the World’s Strongest Slam. Henry has the cover as the referee makes the count, but Goldberg kicks out.

Henry comes off the ropes with a splash, but Goldberg puts up his knees. Goldberg bounces off the ropes and tackles Henry down. Goldberg lifts Henry and slams him. Goldberg then spears Henry.
J.R.: Goldberg has shifted the momentum of the match to his favor as he takes the four hundred plus pounder off his feet.
Goldberg hooks Henry and manages to lift him up and Jackhammer him to the mat. Goldberg has the cover and Henry is down for the count.
King: Unbelievable!
J.R.: Goldberg has just pinned Mark Henry and what an amazing victory. Goldberg is headed for the Royal Rumble to compete with fifty-nine other men for the opportunity to headline WrestleMania XX at Madison Square Garden.
Goldberg looks out at the camera and says “who’s next?”
King: Well J.R. speaking of the Royal Rumble, let’s talk about it.
J.R.: The Royal Rumble will be presented live from the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Sunday January 25 and will be available exclusively on pay per view. Smackdown will be offering up the WWE Championship as Bret “Hit Man” Hart defends against Brock Lesnar. Can the Hit Man retain or will Lesnar run straight through the pink and black attack?
King: Then Raw will offer up the World Heavyweight Championship as Kurt Angle defends in a triple threat match against Nature Boy Ric Flair and Chris Jericho. Can Angle hold onto the gold or will his title reign be short lived when he faces two number one contenders?
J.R.: The Intercontinental Title will also be up for grabs when two-time Champion Christian defends against Muhammad Hassan. With Daivari acting as an official, what chance does Christian have to walk away with a victory?
King: Then it’s a table for two when the legendary Terry Funk and Tommy Dreamer take on the Dudley Boyz in a Tag Team Tables match. Get out the tweezers because someone’s going to get a splinter in this one.
J.R.: Then it comes down to the 60 Man Royal Rumble match. Sixty Superstars will compete for the opportunity to headline WrestleMania and challenge for either the WWE or World Heavyweight Championship. In fact we found out just this past Monday that not only does the luck of the draw apply to what your entry number is, but it also will determine on which roster a Superstar will be on.
