Arsenal striker Eduardo da Silva suffered a horrific broken leg in the opening minutes of the Premier League clash with Birmingham.
The Croatia international was challenged by Birmingham's Martin Taylor in the third minute of the game at St Andrews with the centre-back being shown an immediate red card by referee Mike Dean.
Eduardo's clearly distressed team-mates immediately signalled to the sidelines that urgent attention was required and the game was held up for seven minutes as he received treatment on the field.
The injury was deemed to be so serious that replays of the incident were not shown on television.
Photographs of the challenge and the immediate aftermath suggest the injury is similar to the break suffered by Manchester United forward Alan Smith during their FA Cup defeat at Liverpool in 2006.
Eduardo is now facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines and is certain to miss the remainder of this campaign and Croatia's Euro 2008 challenge in the summer.
After being stretchered off the field, he was immediately taken to hospital for further treatment.
The Brazil-born striker moved to Emirates Stadium from Dinamo Zagreb last summer and had scored 12 goals in his first 30 appearances for Arsene Wenger's side.
Ouch, I dont rate Eduardo TBH but its sad to see any player getting injured like this, kinda reminded me of when Riise haed that freekick against Alan Smith and lets be honest Smith didnt play well for United again.
Discuss.....

I haven't seen it yet, but a multiple leg break sounds bad.

I was there at St Andrew Stadium today, everyone was silence when the medical people take Eduardo out of the pitch. That was awful, and his leg was like as in two piece. I was gutten that Birmingham and Arsenal end up draw 2 - 2. Because if Eduardo still on the pitch, Arsenal would obviously score more than two.

Why were you gutted that it ended 2-2? Are you an Arsenal supporter or something?

Why were you gutted that it ended 2-2? Are you an Arsenal supporter or something? Yes, I am huge Arsenal fan. And I live in Birmingham. I was expect Arsenal score more than 2. I do believe Eduardo being out of the pitch is affect to Arsenal team, because I can see that Arsenal sort of can't cope to win without Eduardo. But oh well, as long as Arsenal stay top and I am happy with that. And I have had enjoyed today.

It was vile, after just seeing it on MOTD, I think blood squirted out and he passed out before he hit the floor. Ugh

Someone explain the Marc Vivien Foe thing?
I hope Eduardo has a speedy recovery, if a recovery at all. Most savage thing ive seen. Absolutly Disgusting.
Eduardo has undergone surgery on the leg now, Arsene Wenger still quotes his status as 'Very Very Bad'. - Arsenal's Official Website.

A good picture of Eduardo's broken leg. For the person who didn't watch MOTD or so. I have no idea how long he would out, but that wil be long, and he won't play this sesson now.

Horrific scenes. I really hope he does play again however it seems very unlikely.

Horrific scenes. I really hope he does play again however it seems very unlikely. I know Arsenal does need him. And I do believe he might back to the pitch again after christmas now or 2 years a time, but that was terrible. Once the bone broken then bone won't that strong same as used be again, so no doubt about his football talent in the future now...
